  1. UPDATE: Court Ruling on Mass Traffic Stop in Colorado Post Bank Robbery The federal judge issued his ruling to defendant's motion to suppress all evidence and statements related to the traffic stop. It is 33 pages long, so I am not going to post it here, but here is the info if you want to look it up: In a nutshell, the judge allowed in all of the evidence except statements made after the defendant lawyered up. The judge did a decent analysis of the traffic stop, the invasiveness and duration of the stop, the PC to search the defendant's vehicle and the statements made to the officers. And here is a quick news story about the court ruling: http://www.aurorasentinel.com/...n-mass-traffic-stop/
  2. Good to know. Thanks. Do they post the scores on the OBRAMS or the OBRPC website? Not looking for a plaque, just want to see if I beat my buddy And seriously, thanks to everyone for being so cool and helping us shoot through so we could complete the competition. I hope Mike and I didn't slow anyone down with our shooting and we did enough helping to tape, paint, reset, score, etc... We felt bad leaving and not healpin to clean up. Next time I shoot, I will make sure I don't have to work after. Now that I know what to expect, I am sure I will be more efficient helping with all of the ancillary stuff going on when you aren't shooting.
  3. This match was a lot of fun. I had never shot in any competition like this, and I had a great time. Looking forward to more! Great group of people too. Everyone was friendly and answered all my newbie questions and gave advice freely regarding the rules and strategies. My shooting partner and I had to leave early to get to work, and another squad was gracious enough to let us shoot a few stages with them so we can finish. If anyone here was in that 5 man squad, thank you. Iggy was a rock. I know my partner and I must have driven him crazy with requests and questions. Did they award the plaques at the end of the match? If so where can I find the scores?
  4. Assuming this setup is being used on an AR platform, you just have to use an atrocious chin weld on the stock and calculate a rediculous mechanical offset for CQB when using the MRDS. With the magnifier behind the RDS setup, you get a consistent cheek weld and a standard offset adjustment.
  5. 100 yards and in - Aimpoint PRO or T-1/H-1 all the way. I have seen too many EOTurds crap out and L3 CS is non-existant anymore to recommend them. I also find the EOTech reticle busy compared to the single dot of the Aimpoints. The difference in battery life alone make the Aimpont stand out. The T-1/H-1 will run 50,000hrs (5 years)without ever turning it off on setting 8 of 12. My EOTech runs for an average of 190 hours on one set of batteries. The hashmark at 6 O'clock on the EO Reticle is not used as a BDC per se. It is an aiming point to compensate for mechanicial offset on an AR type rifle inside of 7 yards. The 65 MOA circle and hashmarks at 9 O'clock and 3O'clock are also advertised as being useful for engaging moving targets as well, but I have found I have no problem hitting moving targets without them, and they are only useful at a particular range and specific direction of movement. You will want to mount a Red Dot sight over the center of balance of your rifle - in the case of an AR that will be right over the magwell in the front portion of the upper receiver. This way the weight of the optic (regardless of how slight) won't affect how you drive the rifle or how the rifle handles.
  6. Trivett's Sunoco on 36 at East Ave in Atlantic. Billy, the owner, is a great mechanic and as honest as they come.
  7. Then you should know that the only info being obtained by the APR is a photo of the actual plate. Pedigree information is not being obtained at the APR levels and mobile APRs aren't tagging location data. The plate is not being run through CJIS by any APR software. A list of registered owners is not being compiled. To conduct an investigation plates still need to be run to discover owner info. It is no different than using surveillance cameras in a shopping mall, on an ATM, or Walmart parking lot, or MVR in a squad car when investigating a reported crime. Yes you can tell the APR to search for a particular plate, but you can not tell it to search for a particular person. That is a big difference. A Cop sitting in his squad car can do the same things with a pen and paper. Then there would be crying about a wasted salary for some "lazy cop" to sit and watch traffic.
  8. You are gnashing your teeth about "perhaps", you are wailing about "in time"? In time we may be invaded by aliens, hit by an asteroid, or go to war with China. You may lose your job, get in a car wreck, or maybe win the lottery. Geez Louise guy You are going to give yourself a stroke worrying about all the "perhaps" that may happen in life if given enough time.
  9. This is not how the system is used in NJ. Additionally, this info is not available in real time to an Officer operating an APR.
  10. Slip 2000 725 cleaner Slip 2000 EWL lube A bore snake for each caliber you need to clean A box of q-tips An old Tshirt An old toothbrush That is all you need to clean any firearm. Avoid CLP as it does neither C, L, or P particularly well. Avoid Militec as it is a pain to apply properly and doesn't work very well compared to the Slip 2000.
  11. Again, there is no personal "data" to retain in the APR. It downloads lists of plates that are wanted, unregistered, suspended, etc... from a server at the MVC level. This list contains plate, make, model, status (suspended, expired, valid), model year, color. It then compares tags that are "scanned" from a photo of the plates it sees to the list stored on the hard drive . There is no "destruction" requirement because there is nothing to destroy. No location data and no pedigree information is ever in the APR system. A location is only attached to the plate if a stop is made and a location is reported via radio. That location is only recorded in an in-house system as evidence in the event of a trial, and officer safety in case backup is needed. There is a whole other step involved using CJIS, a completely different system, to get to personal information of the registered owner or driver by running a license or registration.
  12. Credit cards, Amazon, reward cards, Google for Internet searches, there are too many methods to list. I am sure you use some of them... Everything records the choices you make in order to provide companies with superior marketing data. You get my point though right?
  13. Me too.... Weird. I understand that you check the privacy options. That doesn't help with EZ PASS, face book, Cell Phone GPS, On Star, CC purchases, Internet sites visited, etc.... It is impossible to be a modern human and be off the grid. No actually I am not OK with it. I feel it violates the 4A big time. I was asking a serious sincere question so I know where some of the oppositions to these devices are so I could give some decent info about them. But, thanks for jumping the gun and assuming I meant it in a negative way. Much appreciated BTW: I have NO problem with Terry Frisks if done properly with the AS/PC.
  14. Seriously? And this is helpful how? Oh no, I most definitely get it. Do you? Did you read how the APRs are being used in this state. NO PERSONAL INFO IS DISPLAYED OR RECORDED BY THE APR. IT IS LICENSE PLAYE CHARACTERS ONLY. You are under more surveillance by your cell phone, Internet, TV, iPad, radio, credit card, ATM Machines, Key Fobs, On Star etc... way more often and way more accurately through these means everyday. And the data collected be these methods are being sold to the highest bidder. It is owned by private companies with no responsibility to protect it be abuse you signed on the dotted line to accept this in exchange for the use of their services. Data regarding your life and personal choices in entertainment, shopping, books, vacations etc.. All recorded and sold by private companies in the name of commerce, marketing, and advertisement.. These private company records are all obtainable by court order by the way. This is all OK but the APR, which may actually do some good, is one step too far?
  15. Specifically, what rights do you feel are being violated by the use of APR on public roads as you exercise your privilege to operate a motor vehicle on the roads?
  16. Exactly. And don't forget the other idiot video taping the whole thing. They didn't show anyone anything. The attempted to scare the public and embarrass law enforcement and did both poorly. All they did was put some citizen's and Cop's lives in danger as well as the kid in the bed sheets. Knowing you Ray, you would have seen it, laughed and thought "I wish I had a toy RPG like that when I was a kid playing with my friends."
  17. So we should call 911 for every kid walking to the woods with an airsoft gun to play "War" with their friends? I used to ride my bike to the woods behind my Aunt's house with a backpack full of toy guns to meet my friends. Should the cops have been called on me? Yes, I agree that the Cops should have been called on this one. I also realize that to a lot of citizens that day, it didn't look like anything more than 2 kids fooling around, and not reason to call the Police.
  18. No one reported it because it was rediculous and clearly fake.
  19. You are most welcome. Vehicles parked on private property are generally governed by local ordinances, so that depends on the town you live in. State law says that vehicles driven on public or quasi-public (think a parking lot at Foodtown or Wallmart) roads must be properly insured, registered and operated by an Licensed Driver. Private property is still Private property when in comes to vehicle status. There are very few MV statutes that are enforceable on Private Property. The APR will read plates on private property of they are close enough to the roadway. There is a disposition when clearing a hit from the system for "No Cause for Action, Private Property" Well said!
  20. You can use the MLS and QLS forks from Safariland to do the same thing as far as quickly moving the holster from thigh to hip to chest.
  21. Please define the limits of "12 minutes" Ray Ray, if you would, also whose report are you basing the 12 minutes off of? Does that 12 minutes start when the filming started at their house, when the RPG kid got to the public road, when the "actors" thought they were first seen by a citizen, when they thought they were first reported to police, when the first witness called 911 or when the Cop on the road got the call on his radio with directions to respond? How was this called in by concerned citizens and then how was the Cop dispatched based on the reporting parties statements - Man with an rocket launcher, kids playing in the road, terrorist attack, active shooter, unknown disturbance, man with a gun, open investigation, blocked intersection? Does every call warrant a lights and sirens response to reduce response time? Reports by the PD spokesperson stated a 3 minute response time from receipt of the 911 call to arrival.
  22. I never stated my feelings on the system one way or another regarding the APR. I am just trying to explain how it works and show that it isn't black magic. Pulling back the curtain on the Wizard so to speak. You are free to believe it's horseshit and you are free to do as you want in an effort to protect your privacy. I know I feel just as strongly about my 4A rights. Just remember it is big boy rules out there. Don't whine when you get you wrist slapped from your effort to inhibit an infringement on your rights that may or may not exist. Driving a motor vehicle is a privilege, one that can be taken away, or it can cost you a lot of money and effort to keep. Drive safely! Edited to remove a comment that may have been read as argumentative. Apologies.
  23. NJ Title 39 Motor Vehicle Code: Just sayin' Don't create a justifiable reason for a lawful traffic stop and pursuant charges because you are trying to avoid a perceived one.
  24. I didn't pull you over, so take this for what it is worth. 1) With the APR I am familiar with, it captures an image of the plate and converts the photo characters to computer text. Then it automatically takes the coverted plate and runs it against all of the downloaded lists. If it matches any of the plates downloaded from the State, the computer shows you a photo of the plate captured, a photo of the vehicle wearing the plate, tells you which of the cameras picked it up (it reads a lot of plates, knowing which camera and having a photo of the car lets you track the car in question) and tells you what list it hit on ie: State Warrant, NCIC Hit, Stolen Vehicle, Stolen Plate, Suspended License or Registration, Expired License or Registration, BOLO/Stop and Hold, Amber Alert, Silver Alert, etc.... It does not give any personal information about the Registered Owner The Officer now has to look at the photo of the plate and compare it to the characters the APR used to run it. The cameras are not perfect, sometime ABC12D on the plate gets translated to 48CI20 by the camera. If the plate photo and the characters jive, then the plate gets run through the State MVC computers to verify its status is correctly reported by the APR. If the MVC computers return a valid hit for a crime or infraction, then the Officer has probable cause to run the plate for registered owner info and conduct a motor vehicle stop to investigate. This all takes time, which now has to be made up by closing the distance and stopping the vehicle in a safe location. As far as flying up behind you, how does one catch up to a vehicle without going faster than it is going? How long does it take to close a 400yd gap only going 5mph faster that the car you are following? As far as your perception of VERY UNSAFE the Officer probably did not have that same perception. Lots of cars that make minor motor vehicle infraction are not stopped every day simply because it's dangerous to try to stop them in the traffic or weather conditions that the infraction is observed. Not too many Cops will risk a lawsuit, Departmental/criminal charges or hurting someone to stop a car for an expired license. 2) Part of a Cop's job is checking plates and stopping cars, I doubt he/she was just bored and decided to stop you. That being said, an Officer with an MDT computer and a link to the State MVC can do the same thing the APR does, only slower. He may have run your plate for vehicle info only and the MVC returned a hit for Expired DL on the owner. A traffic stop is made and an investigation occurs - RO wasn't operating, Driver had a valid DL, Registration and Insurance are up to date, Driver doesn't seem impaired, Inspection is good = "Have a nice day sir. I apologize for the inconvenience and please let the owner know his license expired so he can take care of it and not get pulled over in the future. Drive Safely" Hope that helps you.
  25. Probably a little less often than the general public or big business/corporate America misuse things. Yes they are. Are you sure it was an APR (Automated Plate Reader) equipped vehicle. Officers have the right to run any license plate they see for vehicle information only (Make, Model, Year, Color, Registration status). An Officer can run a plate for owner information (Name, Address, DOB) only if there is reasonable articulable suspicion the a MV infraction or crime has been committed. Your plate could have been randomly run through the MDT (The laptop in the car that is connected to the MVC/DMV computers at the state).
