  1. HK M320. Side loading 40mm grenade launcher. http://www.hk-usa.com/military_products/m320_general.asp
  2. Bonesinium, If you look in my post above I use that very example of kids playing airsoft. I think the difference between this and kids playing "War" lies in the intent behind the incident. This kid with an "RPG" and the "Film maker" conducted this stunt with the intent to make citizens and Law Enforcement believe that they were in danger and there was an ongoing terrorist attack. They attempted to provoke LE into an emergency responce/anti terror operation with a ruse. At first glance by arriving Officers, maybe arrests did not seem appropriate. It looks like 2 kids fooling around. As you said above: After investigating - watching the video, speaking to witnesses, and hearing both suspects statements as to the why of the "film", this incident now fits the definition of legislation in Phoenix, AZ against this exact behavior. The YouTube video is essentially a confession/incriminating statement allowing charges to be filed and a proper lawful arrest to be made.

  4. The written word leaves a lot to be desired in communications between strangers. I am not entirely clear what you mean by your statement. Care to elaborate?
  5. Just as an FYI: The plate scanner I am familiar with does not run plates against the DMV computer in real time. When you turn it on it downloads lists from the state. These are lists of license plate on cars that are stolen, unregistered, suspended, or owned by wanted persons. When it captures a plate image it compares the plate read by the camera to the lists stored on the computer hard drive. If there is a match, it says so and it also tells you why it hit on that particular plate. If there is no hit then nothing happens. The plate reader itself never gives me information about the owner of any vehicle. All hits have to then be run in the DMV computer at HQ via radio to make sure they are valid hits. Summons' do not have to be issued and the Officer's are encouraged to use their discretion as they see fit. When you power down the system at the end of the tour, the lists are purged from the memory of the computer until the system is powered on and new lists are downloaded.
  6. Most arrests don't occur during or immediately following the crime, unless the officer witnesses the crime personally. There needs to be an investigation. Is the suspect properly identified? Did the suspect do what was reported? Is what was reported in fact a crime in this jurisdiction? Was anyone hurt? Was there property damage? Gathering suspect info (Name address DOB, etc...) and clearing is sometimes the appropriate thing to do. If the investigation supports an arrest then a warrant is issued and the arrest is made. Picture this: Your kid is playing airsoft and happens to run by a major intersection chasing his friends. Multiple people call the police to report someone with a gun is chasing people at this location. Should the cops or CCW holder just locate the kids and start shooting? Should the police roll up and start putting people in cuffs no questions asked? Or should they get everyones names, investigate the total situation, and determine if in fact a crime has been committed? In NJ anyway, it is very hard to un-arrest someone once the cuffs are on and the words are uttered. I would not have shot him either. It was very silly, and having a man with a video camera clearly right behind the "terrorist" (a kid with only one arm and wrapped in light blue bedsheets) it was most likely pretty clear is was a joke, some kids playing war, or possibly some kind of stunt to catch a cop on camera mis-handeling a citizen. However, I don't know if I would have been quite as non-chalant as the first responding officer though, but that is just me.
  7. Since you used 2 different sized targets (it looks like the red portion on the 5yd target appears larger than the red portion on the 7 and 10 yard targets) and fired a different number of shots at each range, it is hard to diagnose any issues you may be having. However, looking at your targets, I would say that your best group is at the 7. Looks like warming up at the 5 you had some anticipation issues, and at the 10 I would bet trigger control is the culprit. I would work on some trigger control/trigger reset drils next time at the range and practice the Wall Drill (http://pistol-training.com/drills/wall-drill) while at home. (I also like to do the Wall Drill at the range with a live-fire twist. I go 15 dry fire, then 5 live rounds shooting for the smallest possible group you can manage. I repeat this 3 times. Once at the 3, then 5, and finally 7 yard line) I would also start my next range session by running targets at 5, 7, and 10 again and then shooting the same number of shots at each target. The next range session I would do the same, except start at 10, then move in to the 7, and 5yd line, just to get a baseline and see what you need to work on. Have a plan when you go to the range and set aside 50-100 rounds for pure training at the beginnning of each session before you shoot for fun or test yourself with something new. Take notes on your progress and log the drills you do and how well you do on them. Finally, save some cash and get some training. There is nothing like having and experienced trainer watch you shoot and making little corrections to jumpstart progress. Good Luck!
  8. I carry in a drop rig fairly regularly for work. It is not my preferred carry but I make it work. I also train with this system the lion's share of the time because it demands more time to stay proficient with it. With consistant regular practice you can get pretty fast with them. A few friends and I shoot in the Steel Comps at OBRPC with them and do respectably. Drop rig pluses and minuses Pluses: 1) High CDI (Chicks Dig It) factor 2) Easier access to your pistol when jocked up in full kit and armor (Same problem can be solved with a Safariland 1.5" UBL) 3) Frees up a little space on a warbelt or the strong side of your armor for more gear 4) Frees the waist for a harness if doing rope work Minuses: 1) Weak weapon retention 2) Slower draw stroke 3) Inconsistant drawstroke 4) Uncomfortable 5) Heavy 6) Hard to draw while seated 7) Hard to conceal 8) Hard to run when wearing one 9) Gets caught or bangs into everything, especially when you are trying to be sneaky-sneaky 10) Did I mention it is uncomfortable 11) Not useful with most asymmetric shooting positions If you arent wearing full armor (soft armor under front, rear, and side rifle plates) or doing rope work while armed, you will be much better served with a belt mounted holster, especially in a SHTF situation. Why would you carry a pistol in a manner that will slow you down, offers less ability to maintain control over your weapon, and allows everyone to see you are armed, if you have a choice? If you are absolutely sold on getting one then Safariland ALS is the way to go. Get the following from Safariland and build your own: 6004-10 single strap shroud 6004-DFA Belt attachment 6365-83-132 Glock 19 ALS Holster Left handed Also, wearing it as high as you can on your thigh will partially mitigate most of the issues with a drop holster. Don't wear it just above the knee, like I see so many people do. It should be just low enough that the single strap just fits under the crotch, no lower.
  9. Maybe...? I am unfamiliar with that term Ray. What is a "Malsua"?
  10. I am under the impression that only non-ferrous metals (copper, brass, lead, etc...) suffer from creep. Under normal temperatures steel will flex and return to its original shape, unless pushed beyond its elastic limit. Static loading, or compression has no effect on a modern ferrous spring that is properly designed to not surpass its elastic limit during its travel inside the magazine body. In order to reach temps high enough to ruin the spring, the metal or polymer body of the magazine will already be destroyed.
  11. Just so you know, all modern materials science point to this being a myth. Modern springs lose "tension" by cycling them through states of compression and relaxation, not by leaving them compressed. They can also lose "tension" by being bent or stretched past their elastic limit/designed tolerances. Another thing to think about: If you take the magazine spring out of the magazine, it is longer than the magazine is it not? It takes some force to compress the magazine speing in order to reassemble the magazine. Therefore even with an empty magazine, the spring is under some compression. If you wanted to "relax" the spring fully you would have to completely disassemble your magazines before storage.
  12. I do the exact same thing with the exact same holster and the exact same pistol. It works very well.
  13. The way EAG does it there is no mark up, it is same price if you are buying 1500 rounds for class use or to store in your armory. What you are actually doing is ordering it directly from Asym, you just give the shipping address as the class venue. EAG just coordinates the ammo storage on site with the hosts, so when you get there your ammo is waiting for you. There is no up charge for that service by EAG, but they only do it for Asym ammo. Very convenient, very efficient. Only downside is you can't stuff mags before the class. ETA: Keep in mind I am talking about multi-day classes with a required round count between 1000 and 1500 rifle and 300-500 pistol. The ability to have on ammo on site that you didnt have to lug there is a huge benefit when traveling, especially by plane, and staying in hotels and such.
  14. No dude. I was not flaming you and I apologize if that is how you took it. That is not what I meant at all. I was just saying that I think it is a good idea that classes offer ammo, and I know of one school that I have attended 5 times over the last few years that does offer ammo for an additional cost. I was also clarifying why I think that even if it is a bit more pricey than what you buy at Wallmart, it is worth it for the quality stuff, because then you can be sure to experience the class at 100% and not have to worry about ammo problems, and your gun not running. I have been to quite a few classes where the whole class was held back by 1 or 2 people with shite ammo. It was frustrating to say the least. It was not a personal attack. I don't know what you run in your guns. Don't take things so personally.

Maybe not every agency is issuing the big 5 manufacturers but probably close to 95% do, with Glock having the lion's share of that while S&W tries to take back the lead. Pretty dumb of Ruger to not realize that and manufacture these carbines, that were aimed specifically at the LEO market, accordingly. My bud has a police trade in PC40 he picked up at a gunshow for a song, and I know New Brunswick PD has a bunch of PC40s as well. If I find a cheap one, I will be on it like white on rice.
  16. If you are attending an EAG class, you can have Asym ammo shipped to the class venue for an additional price. Stan makes some good ammo. It may be more expensive than Wolf/Tula/XM 193 but it still very reasonably priced, especially considering its quality. Remember, with ammo you get what you pay for. I never understood why someone will pay $600 - $1000 for a 2 - 4 day class, plus gas, hotel, food, time off work, etc... and then buy shit ammo because they are trying to save $100. They inevitably spend 80% of their time in class trying to unfuck their gun instead of what they paid all the money for, learning.
  17. This is completely false. You have to assign a disposition for every hit the system returns. You do not have to issue a summons to every hit. Acceptable dispositions include, but are not limited to: On private property Unsafe to follow up No action required Misread Out of jurisdiction Summons Arrest Out of vehicle Higher priority call Every hit has to be checked for reader accuracy - make sure the plat reader read ABC-123 and not 48C-IZB. If the plate was read correctly, then the return on the plate has to be run as well to check the current status of driver and registration. The Officer, like always, then uses his discretion on whether or not to issue. NJKen, in your case the Officer was either misinformed as to his duties regarding this device, or more likely, too chicken shit to just admit he wanted to write you a ticket to your face and made up the "My hands are tied by policy" bs as an excuse. FYI: Those plate covers are illegal in NJ under title 39:3-33 and are reason enough to stop a car. Bonesinium: As I see it driving is a privilege. Travel is a right. Travel provided by a private company ie: Bus, train, plane, taxi - it is up to you to follow their rules.

While they are vey fun to shoot and the few I have played with are accurate and reliable, there are 2 main reasons that the PC9 didn't last very long on the LE market. 1) When it is all said and done it is no more than a big 9mm pistol, with all of the ballistic shortcomings therof. The rounds actually over penetrate, exhibit poor terminal ballistics, and won't go through soft armor. 2) Not very many agencies issue 9mm, and even less issue Ruger P89, P94, P94 or P95 (I actually don't know of any Agencies that issue Ruger pistols) so the perceived advantage of being able to use the same ammunition and magazine for your sidearm and "long gun" don't exist. If you have to carry different mags for a long gun anyway, then you may as well carry one that fires a round that has a better ballistics and a track record of stopping fights faster than pistol rounds. If they would have marketed this in the niche that is currently being filled by the Hi-Point abomination with civilian shooters, and/or made it accept mags/caliber from a pistol that Police Departments actually issued, Ruger would be making a killing. Ahhhh... OK. I thought that suppressor looked too thin to fit over the MP5s barrel lugs.

Jeebus! That optic is way high over the bore. I got my optic much lower using an ADM mount. Is that so you can use the iron sights too? Are you using a chin mount instead off a cheek mount on the stock? I don't know if you have seen this before but, you could also try this to put a riser on the stock - http://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/HK-Cetme-Cheek-Piece-For-Scope-83p1925.htm
  20. From the USMC Office of Legislative Affairs via a friend of mine. This is unclassified information by the way: FYI: Department of State handles physical security at US Consulates and Embassies, usually by hiring local (foreign) assets in country to conduct physical security. Sometimes PMCs are used. A USMC Security (MCESG) detachments primary mission is to safeguard classified information. They protect American personnel as well, but that is a secondary mission. They're good at what they do but they are more like cops than infantry. The MCSEGs fall under the operational control of the Regional Security Officer (RSO) who makes the final call. So it's a military unit that answers and takes it's orders from civilian officials. Without going into specifics, they have a limited ability to deal with crowd situations and it is typically in conjunction with the security provided by the host nation and external guard force which are usually local, sometimes PMCs (as mentioned above) who are responsible for securing the gates and walls of the compound. While the RSO (or whichever State official at the time) has operational control of the detachment, the decision to employ those measures is situation dependent. The size of the detachment vs. the size and intent of the crowd factors in. Detachments are typically as small as they need to be to get the job done. As a result, they're always outnumbered and more often than not, it's wise to keep a cool head and leave whatever is happening outside the gates well enough alone and let the crowd burn out. The idea that "Every Embassy is an Alamo" is all fine and good, but not very practical when you take into consideration the disparity between the number of Americans on scene able and willing to fight to the last man, then include the number of American non-combatants present and compare that against an angry population whose own Military/Police would rather turn a blind eye than live up to their side of the bargain their nation made with the US to have the building there in the first place. Yeah, an embassy is American soil, but only at the pleasure of the host nation. Additionally, think about how many foreign embassies and consulates are in the US. Do you think we would allow them to stage a brigade of Infantry in Downtown NYC or DC? ^ This x1000 Duppie, I like you. Can we be friends?
  21. I have ~ 50 AR rifle mags unloaded in a milk crate in my gun stuff room. Mostly a mix of P-Mag and ARC Mags with a few GI mags thrown in. They all get loaded prior to any organized training evolution. They are all numbered and sorted by type and color, as well as a personal ID mark so I can keep track of malfunctions and make sure I have all of my mags at the end of the training day. Each magazine fed long gun in the safe has a loaded mag in the mag well, on an empty chamber. I also have 6 loaded mags for each long gun in the safe in some kind of bandolier. I like the Blue Force Gear 10 Speed Chest Rigs or 6 Packs for this. US Rifle Cal .30 M1 is stored empty, bolt forward with safety engaged. 2 en-bloc clips on the sling and 2 bandoliers nearby. Shotguns and lever guns have a full mag tube, empty chamber, hammer down. I don't have any bolt guns... Yet My pistols all have loaded mags inserted with one in the chamber. I have a Midway Pistol Case with 6 loaded mags for each pistol in the safe as well. Any additional pistol mags are kept unloaded, in a drawer in the gun-stuff room. Pistol mags are also numbered and have a personal ID mark for the same reason as the rifle mags. Wheel guns are fully loaded with at least one speed loader and one speed strip handy. ETA: All firearms are stored in safes that are hidden out of sight.
