  1. I'm late to the game but here's my take. At the range, I'll stick with my Ruger 44 mag with 71/2" barrel. It gets plenty of looks simply because of its size, and the fact that it's stainless steel. Plus it shoots accurately. When the guy with the gold plated Desert Eagle is fussing around squeezing off a round then cleaning the crap out of his pistol, I'll still be pumping rounds down range. Now I wouldn't mind having a Barret 50 with "proper" ammo. Targets exploding at 1000 yards could make an interesting statement. Just hope the folks near me in the shooting shed don't mind the blast from the muzzle break!
  2. It took 3-4 attempts to get it right. I actually seated and crimped the true first rounds in unprimed/empty cases. I wasn't counting them since they were "unloaded".
  3. Thanks everyone. The .38 loads have been going very well. I just started using the CJN casting LSWC and RN bullets and have noticed a significant improvement with accuracy and very little leading. Definitely a happy camper. Next up is going to be .44 Mag. Got the supplies, just need to sit down and start loading!
  4. I think it's very important to see if this guy gets charged. Yes, it was very irresponsible for him to pursue the thief and fire his weapon outside the store but if he's not charged with any criminal offense, it potentially sets a precedence for other cases where someone may be charged for legitimately shooting at a criminal during a robbery, home invasion, etc.
  5. My daughter begs us to buy mini marshmallows for her marshmallow guns every time we are in a supermarket. I should also mention that this year we gave her a kitten for her 6th birthday. She chose to name him bullet. His first cat toy was the empty cardboard ammo box from my range bag.
  6. I clean my guns outside all the time. I have a small house but plenty of space on the deck. As far as the neighbors go, no one has ever commented.
  7. Steel plates is the intended purpose. In this case I'm interested in going with a more common pistol instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. The more I poke around online the 34 looks better and better. I have to go put them both in my hand and see how they feel.
  8. I now know what a .40 is supposed to be! Can't wait to get the dies and start loading the 10!
  9. Yes, there is much love for my XDM .45. It was my first .45 pistol. I see a lot more accessories available for the Glock and more people shooting the Glocks in a competition setting. Thinking I may have to change that picture
  10. After initially not liking the feel of a Glock in my hand, I broke down and purchased a G20SF a couple of months ago (I wanted a 10mm) and found that I shoot that thing better than most of my other pistols. That being said, I'm now considering picking up another Glock for shooting steel. My question is how much of a difference does a 5.3" barrel vs a 6" barrel make? I'm considering the 34 gen 4 and the 17L. What do the Glockaholics here think? The Glock will be replacing my Sig P226 Tac ops .40. Love the trigger and sights, but I don't shoot it as well as my other pistols. I know the Glocks I mentioned are in 9mm and not .40 like the Sig. I figure I don't need .40 to shoot plates plus I can swap barrels and mags in the G20 if I decide to keep the caliber.
  11. You can find them on Gun Broker. Pricing isn't that great and you would have to pay FFL transfer fees and in most cases shipping. The up side is you can have it in your hands a lot quicker than ordering one.
  12. I know Bobs in Glassboro offers bore sighting services. If your in south Jersey.
  13. While shopping at Cabelas last year, the sales man behind the counter said they do not sell AR type semi auto rifles to NJ residents. There were 3-4 semi auto rifles behind the counter with big tags on them that identified the ok for NJ rifles. I recall one of them being an EAA PAP, and the others were high point carbines. All had 10 round mags.
  14. Not to try and start a heated debate, but I can't seem to understand why anyone would go through the hassle of mixing up a home brew concoction to clean their guns when there are a ton of products specifically already made to do the job. For the price of a pack of smokes you can buy something already formulated. Is their some advantage to a home brew that I'm missing?
  15. Purchased 44 mag RCBS dies and some accessories. Excellent communication, fast shipping, and product was in better shape than expected. Hope to do business again!
  16. Forgive me if this isn't the correct place for this. I'm going to take the now hunters test next month and need to pick up a bow. I shoot rifle and pistol left handed since I'm left eye dominant, and managed to locate a used left handed bow through a friend. Is there anything in particular I should be looking at other than the string and frame condition?
  17. I have used gun scrubber and an ultrasonic cleaner. Gun scrubber is definitely cheaper and easier. Field strip and spray. The ultrasonic cleaner works awesome however keep a couple of things in mind. Putting the slide in will create a ton more work for you. The solution will get into the firing pin area, then you have to dry it out. Not to mention that night sights may be fried by the ultrasonic cleaning action. Several people warned me of this so I never tried it first hand. I only put the receiver with the grips removed in. Personally I would not use kerosene since its very flammable and will leave a very oily residue on your hands, gun case, etc. Kerosene is a fuel, not a gun cleaner.
  18. Not sure if it's the same but I use Slide Glide on my 226 Tac Ops .40. Haven't had any issues with it.
  19. I can tell you as an active member of NJ2AS that this has been mentioned amongst ourselves at the meetings. My suggestion to every NJ 2A supporter is to spend $35 and join NJ2AS. It's going to take time, money, and we the people of NJ to make this happen. They are making progress in baby steps, which is better than no progress at all. There is a meeting this Wednesday, August 22 at GFH in Belleville. The meetings are free to attend by anyone, and you can sign up and join right there.
  20. PK90 has them. You can have 15 round mags and be Jersey legal. The XDM 45 comes with 13 round mags standard. Not sure about the 9mm or .40. If you buy from PK90, he can block the mags that are over 15 rounds for you.
  21. Thanks for the advice. I'll check it out when I visit the free Commonwealth of PA!
  22. Who in South Jersey has a half way decent selection of black powder rifles? I'm starting to shop for my first black powder purchase and was hoping to find someplace with a decent selection to put my hands on. What's the deal with purchasing a muzzle loader rifle online? I'm assuming they still need to ship to a FFL. Are used black powder guns something to steer away from?
  23. I let my EMT-B expire when I stopped working in the emergency services, however I do recall being taught that legally in NJ you can't be sued for trying to help prior to EMS arrival. You can be sued if your an EMT and don't step up to help. Unless the laws have changed in the past 4 years, good Samaritans are protected in NJ. My fiancée is an active EMT and a 911 dispatcher. In true nanny state fashion, NJ only gives limited power to EMT-B's. Just about anything more advanced than oxygen needs to be done by a paramedic. That being said, be sure to tell 911 that it's a GSW so the necessary help gets dispatched. If your in south jersey (like me) you can pretty much expect a helicopter ride to either Cooper or ACMC with Cooper being preferred since they are a level III trauma center.
  24. Ordered a rifle from Davidsons. Paid the deposit online then the balance due at the FFL. Keep in mind Davidsons is a distributor that supplies FFL's and Buds is a gun shop.
  25. Looks like something made for a bad sic-fi movie. It's not my cup of tea, but as long as it shoots I'm sure someone loves her!
