  1. alot of knowledge on particular topics can be found on youtube. Any sound person "prepper" would be in their right mind to stock(pile) hoard, reserve, whatever term you choose. in case SHTF. Im concerned ultimately with HD, but take it into consideration that to be proficient in HD, it takes time and training to become accustomed to firearm safety in general, specific operation and usage of your firearm for those purposes, and planning a HD strategy. If you plan on shooting often you may want to consider 9mm if cost is an issue. .357, .40, or .45 if you are ok with spending a little more, but given more stopping power by comparison. Key issues here Reinforce firearm general safety- Both with yourself and the people in your house. They dont have to go shooting with you or even be part of your choice, but to me it seems cruicial that if you are going to store weapons in your home, the responsible parties in your home should be familiar with firearm safety and basic components and functions of your firearm (againi as a general precaution or if SHTF) Know your gun- When you decide which gun you will buy or have bought, learn everything about it. Owners manual, websites, youtube videos are all over the place for every gun out there.. know its strengths, weaknesses, operations, and troubleshooting. Train and plan - Having a gun in your home wont mean much if you dont know how to use it. Go to the range as often as you can cost allowing. Train, improve your aim and commit using your weapon to muscle memory. Have a good HD plan and know the laws of NJ as it pertains to the castle doctrine. You have a duty to retreat but when you are pushed to the point to where it is your life, or an intruder, the answer seems clear. KNOW THE GUN LAWS FOR NJ. because they are so eff'd up they will nail you for any slight infraction.. Good luck!
  2. .22lr - cheap, low recoil, good on saving money on shooting. 9mm - still cheap, common, more recoil, good for home defense .357- less common but packs a punch great for HD. .40 - slightly more costly, more recoil then 9mm, better for HD .45 - you see the price trend here, one of the best for HD Ballistics on the rounds... the "gr" stands for grain count which is the weight of the bullet and not the amount of powder in the round. as far as brands for ammo is concerned, if you start shopping reputable outlets for ammo you will see a common trend in brands used.. i.e. Federal, American Eagle etc.. seem to be some of the cheaper "range ammo" whereas some more pricier brands like hornaday, and winchester. Bullet types such as Hollow Points would be more expensive for home defense use. FMJ "Full Metal Jackets" are usually the cheaper more common ammo used in ranges. This is certainly not the whole deal but hopefully a step in the right direction. There is a wealth off knowledge both here and on the internet regarding differences in calibers, grain counts, bullet types etc. Find out what you want the gun for most (range shooting, home defense ,etc) and build a profile to find a gun with a caliber that suits your needs.
  3. Damn you overnight shift! I leave at 10 tonight to go to my PT job.
  4. Annual membership is $225, I was told$175 or 185 for NJGF members when I asked about the yearly price.
  5. +1 for your comparative analysis of guns to broads... I lol'd
  6. This +1 For a new shooter the initial availability of 15+1 rounds would compensate for lack of experience and or aim, plus when you run out in a revolver twice as fast, its a lot harder for reload (even with a speedloader for novices) I would start your way into the firearm world with the beretta..get comfortable and expand your collection to incorporate a revolver later on down the line. just my opinion (dont hate on me wheel heads!)
  7. Rather then an all out boycott. If this proves to be true, i'd like to say thank you to SS for giving us a break from the get go. I must say this does give me incentive to check out a few different ranges because the price would then be on par with everyone else, so just dont expect me to be shooting as much as I used to there. Still a great place with great people.
  8. ooooooooo-kkkkkkkkk I guessss we'll never have the righhht tooo carrry a firearm leeegallly Such a ray of sunshine you guys are.
  9. I remember hearing the movie company that produced this sequel was saved in recent years by a chinese investment firm.. yup you guessed it no Chinese invasion. The sad thing about it is in the 80's the thought of a Russian invasion gripped to a small chance of reality given the possibility of a cold war escalation. Now with China being the big bad wolf for America who better to cast as the invading force? The film was originally shot for the chinese invasion but was later amended to show the N Koreans because of big pappa chinese investment firm.
  10. It would be given a reason to go to the Supreme Court
  11. only owned a sig for DA and hadnt realized firearms that are DA/SA with a safety can drop back to DA when you rack the slide with the safety on. Just a little more knowledge in the ol' tool box.

  16. If this is a federal court, wouldnt this finding be a precedent in court cases in NJ as well for being denied a ccw permit? *edit* read federal district court in OP
  17. I think the slide is awesome and cant find any kits on that website to reproduce... I think a 1911 with a slide like that would eventually find its way into my safe. found a company that does the miling for around $100 so if i cant find it, i will use that place =)
  18. I am a proud supporter of the law enforcement community, as well as my own rights. I think what aggravated me more was the blatant regurgitation of an article calling it a cop killer law. It may be an op ed but ones duty to look objectively at the facts on both ends of the spectrum and not just some hate fueled ignorant rant only citing a small fraction of the case. This led me to a long drawn out conversation eventually trying to get me to justify a persons rights vs a cops life which I would certainly not agree with the trade off. I cant stand biased journalism. You should have a duty to report the whole case as it stands and not just a harsh one sided diatribe because people like the one I spoke with spread this ignorance without checking the facts to other people as fact.
  19. But thats akin to your wife telling you why pay $1500 on a rifle... that $350 one shoots bullets too. I see the point for going that route.. the vacuum has good reviews, but more importantly.. it gives your wife one less reason to **** about you spending soo much money on guns and she gets nothing in return.. Dyson is like a female status symbol like owning coach bags.
