  1. I didn't buy a hunting license for the last 30 years or so....... until last year. All I gave them was one of my old licenses from the late 80's and no problem. I did not need my NJ firearm safety completion card (whatever it's called) from 1974. But Florida took a copy of that for my formal training for my cc permit app.
  2. Trust me, if/when I sell my home the no one will even know there was a shooting area or backstop on my property. So, who would even look for it? If someone finds lead shot on the ground at the back of my property I'll just blame in on the state WMA and the hunters.
  3. I did ask my township and they had to look it up. Lady stated that the only thing she could find was a noise ordinance that could be of concern if someone complains. The lady said, if the njsp (my police dept.) are ok with it go for it. She "suggested" that I build a backstop, which of course I did. Never bothered to call njsp and I have a nice shooting range out back. Now, I do have at least 5 miles of woods between my backstop and the next road, with no houses. It's pretty cool when I shoot, it seems like everyone in the neighborhood starts firing off. Usually, if I'm home I'll return the favor if I hear some shooting. You don't worry about complaints when everyone around you shoots too. Been shooting for 3 years at least couple times a month and so far not one problem. My township is pretty cool though, I also asked about off road dirt biking and hunting on township land and they said "do what you want we are OK with it. Just be safe"
  4. I go and shoot clays at my local WMA (Millville) all the time. Most of the time I see some yahoo's shooting pistols on the "rifle" range. I always figured that no one is that stupid to shoot handguns right next to a sign that states "no handguns" So, I always presumed that they were LEO's who know they can do anything they want.
  5. I saw a show I think was it was 20/20 and they did a blind taste test of vodka folks who said they would only drink grey goose and nothing else. Every single one of them chose the non grey goose sample........ and all said it was the best one hands down in the test.
  6. I gained so much respect for my local (Mays landing and Millville) Dick's stores during the ammo craze. You may have had to wait in line in the morning to get ammo BUT they never ever price gouged. I would call and they would tell me when the next delivery was and what was coming in and I was just some guy on the phone. During the crunch everyone, and I mean every gun dealer I called or visited was trying to charge double for ammo........ and not ashamed of it. I was never a customer of theirs prior to this but now I go there for all my sporting needs. They earned my business.......... I never bought a gun from them because the ones I wanted they could not get me but if they could of I would have bought there in a second.
  7. I have been shooting right handed guns (auto's, pumps, single's, doubles) left handed since my dad figured out I was left eye dominant (but I am right handed everything else) That was over 40 years ago. Actually, I have never shot a "lefty" gun ever. I can shoot righty if I have to and sometimes when hunting deer it was my only option so I did. It is very uncomfortable and I'm much better if I have a rest, tree, or knee to stable the gun on. I also completely agree with High Exposure about the safety. My hand is wrapped around the whole trigger assembly preventing anything from even touching the trigger. I just "push" the safe with my middle finger when bringing the gun to my shoulder. Kinda wonder why that isn't the standard anyway. I have never had an issue with anything.... ever. As far as "learn to shoot right handed".......... I can't even imagine that being an option
  8. Sorry it took so long to reply but...... as it turns out......no need to, you have several excellent replies already to help you out. Happy shooting
  9. John, Really depends on what you want the gun for. Her only? Home defense only? Shooting clays? Hunting? All of these? Makes a big difference in your choice. I have a Remington 1100 20 ga. Magnum that I bought for deer hunting with a Hastings slug barrel and scope. It came with a 26" remchoke barrel. I use it to hunt and shoot sporting clays. Kids love to shoot it, less intimidating. My wife was using it to shoot clays that we would throw on our own and liked it a lot. Funny thing, we went to shoot sporting clays last week and she preferred using my 12 ga Browning Maxus........ the 20 stayed in the trunk. You need to be more specific in what you want to do with it. I suggest to get one that can do multiple tasks.
  10. Just call your local Dick's Sporting goods and check on their 22lr ammo. My two local ones have had those in 525 round boxes for around $24 pretty regular lately. Yes they are pretty crappy but most still go "bang" and the kids love to shoot them. That price above is pretty high.
  11. I shoot left handed and have used right handed guns all my life. (50+ years) Never a problem. In fact, I feel that I protect the trigger better while hunting due to my hand wrapping around it to push the safety with my finger. I could see and issue with a bolt action if you need a quick follow up shot. Just sayin you dont "have" to have a dedicated lefty gun.

    22 caliber for wife

My vote goes for the sig 22 classic. Of course she needs to shoot it and decide for herself but having the option at a later date when she "does" enjoy the recoil of a 9mm or larger a simple x-change kit gets her a new toy for much less than a another gun. I have the 40cal kit and with just a couple of extra barrels I can shoot 22, 9mm, 357 sig, and 40 all with the same frame.
  13. My 40 exchange kit works perfectly
  14. I use a n82 professional model iwb for my shield 9mm. Super comfortable. They make them for glock's too.
  15. Love my p226 classic too. Have the 40 kit for it. It's amazing you can get 2 guns for less than the price of 1. Love my shield 9 also. Oh, that Ruger redhawk 44 magnum.... have that too. Used it for a side arm while hunting in Maine. Got a Ruger lcr 38 with crimson laser grip just for fun and ease of use. One thing about a revolver if it doesn't go bang just pull the trigger again. No thinking, super simple. Wife has a Sig pro 2022 which I like alot. I would recommend any of these.
  16. Just this morning, 350 round bulk 9mm blazer $110.00 (not bad at todays prices) local Dick's Sporting Goods. Show up @ 8 am or so on delivery days (just call them they will tell you what day the trucks come in....AND sometimes what's coming in), hang out with some great folks standing in line, doors open @9 walk in and walk out. Been doing it for several months....every so often they have some high prices (mostly 22lr) but they only charge that when that's what they get charged. I've picked up 1400 round buckets of 22lr for $64.99 at times all this year....... Dick's was never my "go to" place for anything until this ammo situation. Because of what they have been charging for ammo when they get it......I have completely changed my attitude towards them and purchase many items from them that I would not have before.
  17. This is EXACTLY what I was telling the wife! They want us to forget they just pushed that bill through the budget commitee and praise the crap out of NJ for doing what they were suppose to be doing all along.......total diversion. No way you can convinse me this isn"t a set up.
  18. You beat me to it...I was going to do the same post......thanks for saving me the time I did the same thing but bought directly from Blackdog with no spring. don't use the flat piece either. I shortened the red plug from the kit to increase the mag to 15. I read that the law is 15 + 1......that is true right? Just the mag can only hold 15 rounds and one in the chamber is legal? If not easy fix. http://blackdogmachinellc.net/10rd-3-pack-followers.aspx
  19. sorry it took so long to reply....but when using the 226 in 22lr form you forget it's 40......when in 40 you forget it's a 22.... just like having 2 different guns but you don't. Have had 0 problems with either caliber. Right now I have my 40 slide out being nickel plated and np3'd at Robar. When I get it back I will have a 2-tone 40 and all black 22........now it will actually seem like I have 2 seperate guns......plus "at a glance" I'll know what caliber it is in
  20. +1 I did the same for less than $900 total out the door.......22 classic and 40 X-Change kit.
  21. I thought that "long" guns did not have to be registered in NJ? How do they "know" who it belongs to? So, if my wife has a NJ FID and takes my 20ga out to the skeet field with the daughter....they are illegal? BTW the shotgun was purchased 30 years ago out of state. This would be news to me. Thanks
  22. Going on 101 days for me and 112 days for my wife from NJSP too. I don't care what anyone says, they are dragging their feet because they can or just don't want to do their job! BUT can't complain or you will be put on the bottom of the pile..... Have a shield 9 and 2 sigs paid for and waiting since Jan.......
  23. Are you Sure??? Maybe it means that to buy a rifle or shot gun you will have to wait to get your "permit to purchase" back just like we do now for a handgun.....I find this senario much, much more likely......
