  1. My friend, it has nothing to really do with the mods at all. These guys advertised the hell out of this thing, in an effort to drive business to their respective sites. Had they said in those ads "Hey! We took a NO NAME gun, with NO BRAND, and NOTHING you could relate to, or have EVER heard of, and did some cool stuff to it!" No consumer would have spent another second looking at that ad, and they would make no money. However, they didn't do that, did they? They said "Hey! We took a gun that you probably own, or know about, or have a buddy that has one, or might be thinking of buying, and we did cool stuff to it! Come to our site and buy stuff, and you could have this cool gun too!" Apex Tactical, Brownell's, DP Custom Works, Blowndeadline Custom, and SSvi, all made money using S&W's name without permission. S&W has a right to profit from their name, and have the opportunity to decline being part of another company's advertising.
  2. Trust me. Had these companies sent S&W a check for the rights to use their logo, we wouldn't be talking about this. That cease and desist letter is legalise for "Give us our CUT!" Someone will write a check, S&W will get paid for their logo (which they rightfully should), these other businesses will sell tons of modifiacations, and accessories, everyone will make buckets of cash and be happy.
  3. You are comparing apples to oranges. This has nothing to do with consumers modifying their products, or gunsmithing, or personalizations, etc. This has to do with using a proprietary name, you don't own, or have paid into, for profit. S&W has an issue with other BUSINESSES using the S&W name to promote themselves and make money. Why should they get to use S&W's name for free? It's like opening my own burger place, and naming it McDonalds. Why would I get to enjoy the McDonalds name, the national McDonalds marketing campaigns, the McDonalds logo, and all the customers that McDonalds publicity attracts, without having to pay McDonalds for it? Why do people pay McDonalds for the priviledge of opening a burger place? Because more people will go to McDonalds than to High Exposure's Magic Hamburger Emporium. There is value in the name, and that value is not given away for free. S&W spends millions promoting themselves, and they are just going to let anyone use the name without permission? Do you realize how much money and effort it costs to develop a brand?
  4. These businesses are using S&W logos to promote themselves. Promotion = Sales = Money. S&W has a lot of money and time invested in their name and logos. They are entitled to do with them as they see fit. I own a few businesses myself. For someone else to use my name, logos, and brands, would be the same as taking money out of my pocket, and profiting off of my sweat and effort. It also opens S&W up to lawsuits. If someone happens to get hurt by this gun, the lawyers are going to sue everybody, regardless. They aren't going to give S&W's deep pockets a pass because they weren't involved in the modifications. I don't know anything about this project, but if it is something the other people involved believe in, then take the S&W logos off the gun, and take full responsibility for any consequences. That way S&W is covered, and you get all the credit for the successes (and/or failures) of your work.
  5. How about we wait to see what he actually does, and IF something happens, we give him the honor of kissing our asses some more for fucking us over all these years.
  6. Your not even getting that. It only suggests that the AG "MAY" do that. I didn't see where it said they actually would.
  7. No offence, but I don't think this is a step at all. Its like changing "I wish Christie would eat a BIG steaming pile of dogshit." with " I wish Christie would eat a LARGE steaming pile of dogshit." They are just playing with words.
  8. In all seriousness, I wonder if he truly thought he would get any support from us here in NJ with this bullshit press release, or was it 100% intended for other states where they don't know the full extent of our problems.
  9. Let me get this straight. 1. Instead of removing justifiable need, we would get a chance to explain ourselves to the court before we get denied automatically. 2. They are going to tell local PDs what they already know, that they can't discriminate against us, unreasonably delay us, or arbitrarily infringe on our rights. But, won't go as far as making them accountable when they do. 3. The AG "MAY" define reasonable deviation in a way that won't make a law a biding citizen a felon for stopping to urinate. However, they "MAY" decide to do nothing at all, who gives a shit, we sure don't. Who's with me! CHRISTIE FOR PRESIDENT 2016!
  10. The xdm compact ordinarily comes with one 10 round compact and one 17 round extended with sleeve. Since this is NJ, mine came with 2 10 rounders. But, you can buy 15 round permanently modified mags for it online (you will need the extended sleeve to make it a full sized grip). I think PK90 sells them on his site.
  11. I have shot all of them, and I own the XDM. While the other 3 were all excellent choices, the XDM shot best for me. If I was buying 3 of the 4, I would leave the M&P. Nothing against it, just not as accurate a shooter as the rest (for me anyway).
  12. I used a buddy in NY. As HBEC said, there is no state requirement that they be from NJ.
  13. If anyone wants a summary of his answer for CCW restrictions being eased, here it is:NO!
  14. I recently went to my primary care doctor and they asked the same thing on their forms. I told them I have guns just to see if they would say anything. The nurse reviewing my "Health Assessment Questionnaire" asked if I was "Worried about the dangers of having guns in my household." I asked her if she was worried about being defenseless when someone broke into her house. She looked super pissed and dropped the conversation.
  15. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a reasonable state, where you aren't expected to buy a gun twice just so that you and your wife can shoot separately if you wanted to? This happens to my wife and I. We work different hours, and can't shoot together all the time.
  16. Also, the same gun with a different barrel, or choke tube, might change your mind about it. So don't be afraid to mix things up a bit. You might find that a gun you didn't like with a 28" barrel, is awesome with a 30", or a modified choke vs full choke, etc.
  17. When I got into trap and clays, I had the same questions. The truth of the matter is that there are hundreds of fine shotguns out there, but the best shotgun for you is the one YOU like the best. Get out there and try everything you can get your hands on. You might even want to keep notes on what you liked about a gun and what you didn't. Eventually you will figure out what you shoot best with and that will be the gun to buy.
  18. You had a right to bad mouth him. He had a right to respond. After that it should be squashed. You came here ranting as if he posted your name address telephone number and kids pictures. Relax. The bogeyman is not coming for you.
  19. Also googled the name that was posted. Seems to me you share it with an 2 NFL players, an NBA player, a baseball player, a singer, and a couple musicians. Shouldn't all of you call lawyers? I didn't want to get involved here, but we were getting a one sided story from Carcano, and the forum deserved both sides. And no I am not involved in any way with Joe, other than being a satisfied customer.
  20. To be completely up front: I had issues with Richard, the previous owner, which I posted on this thread earlier. I gave Joe a chance when he got the place. He has been good to me so I shop there now. I haven't talked to Joe about any of this, but was curious to see what was going on. I read the op's comments and did a simple google search. The statements that the op is talking about can be found here: http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/R-R-Gunsmiths/Somers-Point-New-Jersey-08244/R-amp-R-Gunsmiths-Joe-Goldberg-Joe-A-Goldberg-Joseph-A-Goldberg-R-amp-R-RampR-1168654 Read and decide for yourselves. I am posting this only because I seems Carcano is way out of line in my opinion. Calling lawyers over someone mentioning your very common name? Seems a little over the top to me.
