  1. I remember conditions like that when I was a firefighter. It's absolutely the worst, hoses freeze, everything ices up on the ground, you're wet and frozen, definitely not fun. What a perfect time to have some Global Warming!
  2. Got batteries, canned food, firewood and toilet paper? Could be a long quiet vacation from this forum (and from lights, heat, driving, TV and open stores). Several nations, including China and Russia, are building powerful nuclear bombs designed to produce super-electromagnetic pulse (EMP) waves capable of devastating all electronics—from computers to electric grids—for hundreds of miles, according to a newly-released congressional study. A report by the now-defunct Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from EMP Attack, for the first time reveals details on how nuclear EMP weapons are integrated into the military doctrines of China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. The report discloses how those states could use EMP attacks in theaters of battle in the Middle East, Far East, Europe, and North America. "The United States is particularly vulnerable to this new type of warfare, because we have come to rely on information systems and computerized technologies," said Peter Pry, a former CIA officer, commission member, and author of the new report. "Much of the administrative information in the armed forces goes through the civilian internet," he said. "Ours is the most technologically advanced society, and therefore the most susceptible to attack. What is surprising is that our enemies do not consider an EMP attack to be an act of nuclear war." https://freebeacon.com/national-security/china-russia-building-super-emp-bombs-for-blackout-warfare/
  3. I saw a quick weather report a little while ago, the fire/smoke was so large, it could be seen on the weather radar looking like a snow echo.
  4. For someone starting out, who wants to be prepared, then you have to think in rings of defense. You'll need the right equipment to fit in defensive rings spreading out from in close and tight, out to your maximum distance: handgun, shotgun, carbine, long range. Then, after those basic needs are met, start layering in for each ring. My belief is one is none, two is one, and three is where you want to be. That would be the basic necessity, and make sure you have enough food to feed them. Once that is completed, it's on to the fun purchases!
  5. Wait, now you expect people to read Time Stamps from over 8 years ago?? That's so ....
  6. Something sounds strange here, plus update, it was 4 officers shot and the 5th one received a knee injury, which required surgery. Also, all officers are alive and recovering. But this is strange, here's the description of what happened: When the officers entered the home, they immediately came under fire, Acevedo said. All of the officers involved are undercover narcotics officers. Their names will not be released. Acevedo said the first officer who went through the door had a shotgun and was immediately charged by a large pit bull. The officer shot the dog and killed it. At the same time, the first suspect, identified as 59-year-old Dennis Tuttle, came from around the back and opened fire with a .357 Magnum revolver, hitting the first officer in the shoulder. That's when the second suspect, 58-year-old Rhogena Nicholas, reached over the officer and started making a move for his shotgun. Back-up officers fired at Nicholas, hitting her. Both Nicholas and Tuttle were killed in a shootout with police." Could this been a case of "friendly fire", they didn't specify if the other officers were also shot by Tuttle, just that they were shot? Maybe just sloppy reporting. Need to go search for other details.... https://abc13.com/live-hpd-chief-doctor-update-injured-officers-conditions/5110369/
  7. Just think, job security for you. You'll be rich!!!!!!
  8. These guys can't catch a break.. Also 2 suspects killed during the raid. HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Five Houston police officers have been wounded in a shooting in southeast Houston while serving a narcotics warrant. Life Flight was called to the scene. All the officers have been taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Two of the officers, ages 54 and 40, are in surgery in critical condition. Both were reportedly shot in the neck. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo says narcotics officers, with patrol officers on the scene to provide support, announced themselves at the suspects' home in the 7800 block of Harding at about 4:15 p.m. Monday. Immediately, officers were under fire from one or two suspects inside the home. Houston police confirmed two suspects were killed in the exchange of gunfire. https://abc13.com/5110369/

Yep, time to catch that falling knife:
  10. I'd like to know what their income levels and Sch A numbers look like. You just can't generalize, as there are too many variables. My taxes are UP $5K from last year, primarily from SALT and loss of personal exemption. That's NOT a win.
  11. You need to get out more into other states. I lived in Virginia for a handful of years. People there thought NJ was only filled with refineries and asphalt roadways.
  12. You're not paying attention. Here is what the Asbury Park Press (Communists) think are the best reasons to stay: 7 reasons to stay in (and not move from) New Jersey (Ready for some good laughs?) New Jersey: The Garden State. But, also, one of states people move away from the most. New Jersey has the distinction of ranking as the No. 1 state residents leave. According to a study done by American moving and relocation company United Van Lines, New Jersey had the highest percentage of outbound moves in 2018, followed by Illinois, Connecticut, New York and Kansas. New Jersey has been at (or near) the top spot for the past few years, only being edged out of No. 1 in 2017 by Illinois. 13. Better yet, put it on your front door on Halloween, it would scare away every trick or treater!
  14. I've been solidly leaving serious hint to wifey that's it's time to go. She absolutely, positively won't leave until her mom takes a dirt nap. Hmmmm, how can I speed up that process??
  15. "kinda"? Did you find my actual post yet? I'm still waiting.
  16. Another one with reading comprehension issues... Where did I say ban video games? Please repost my comment where I said that...... I'll wait.............................
  17. Actually, no I didn't. Go back and read everything I posted. I also mentioned a possible issue with broken families. Plus, I posed it as a QUESTION, if video games played an issue. I DIDN'T say it was the reason. Maybe not, go back and READ how I framed my post. It seems we have a few here that are sensitive to video game "addiction" or have kids that are regular users. That seems to be why certain ones are so defensive to gaming and it's affects. They are too quick on the draw with their responses before thinking. I think it starts before that. Families and friends need to be proactive and recognize when a person close to them is having issues, and get them the help they need, before it gets to a good guy having to stop a bad guy situation.
  18. Who's singling out a SINGLE risk factor. Is reading comprehension not your strong suit? Does everything just have to have a single fault, there can't be multiple issues going on? Lots of info, I know which side you're on in the debate. Want to know why there isn't more information and studies on the issue: ...."As many as 97% of US kids age 12-17 play video games, contributing to the $21.53 billion domestic video game industry. More than half of the 50 top-selling video games contain violence. Worldwide sales of video games are predicted to reach $102.9 billion in 2017. [132] As games continue to get more sophisticated and realistic, the debate over whether or not children should be exposed to violent video games continues. " Do you really think they'll kill a cash cow like this industry by reporting negative studies?
  19. Is it possible that Dan lived there years ago before the previous owner. Go look him up on the Internet, you'll find out if he lived in that area ever before. I've been recently receiving some medical bills for a guy that owned my house two owners ago, and I've been here 5 years, and that guy is dead.
  20. Which part of " accumulation of risk factors " did you not understand?
  21. ... “No single risk factor consistently leads a person to act aggressively or violently,” the report states. “Rather, it is the accumulation of risk factors that tends to lead to aggressive or violent behavior. The research reviewed here demonstrates that violent video game use is one such risk factor.”
