Removing a pinned muzzle break.

Recommended Posts

In order to do some modifications to my AR-15's gas block (replacing it), I would like to remove the pinned muzzle break, and replace it with a new one. Is it a simple process? Can I drill out the pin?

What about pinning a new muzzle break on?

What is the legality of this?

Yankee Hill Muzzle Break, Front/Rear Sight = $211.00

Daniel Defense Omega Rail (7" carbine) = $265.00

ADCO work (remove muzzle break, place new one on) = $70

Total = $556.00

Original cost of Stag Model-1 = $900.00

Total cost after mod = $1456.00

Potential cost of optics (Holo sights or red dot) ~$500.00

Wow. :o

Mine grossed $2k a long time ago. I was going to sell it but then I thought about all the cash I have in it and decided to keep it. It's my overly equipped SHTF gun.

Well, I only count the cost of the gun in terms of permanent stuff added to it. Optics can be removed or replaced, etc. Heck, you don't even really neeeeeeeed them if you don't want them.

I also forgot to add the cost of night sights for the AR when it's all said and done. That'll be like an additional $180.00 abouts. Not really necessary. But for a SHTF gun... who knows.

ARs are an expensive hobby but when the zombies come, you'll be happy you had one

Anyway, regarding your original question, there's a guide on arfcom that talks about how to remove a muzzle device and also how to pin one on:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782

look for the How to permanently attach a muzzle device section and Remove your permanently attached muzzle device. Pay particular attention to the legal disclaimer at the end of the "remove" section.

ETA: I'm also a big fan of ADCO as I've mentioned a few times on this board. They did the "NJifying" of my AR and will undoubtedly send them any other ARs I need done.
