Does a forward grip count as an evil feature on a semi auto rifle without a pistol grip? For example, if you have an M1A or a thumbhole type rifle with a flash suppressor and detachable magazine, would a forward grip count as a pistol grip?

No, it has to be similar to a pistol grip, which allows you to fire the rifle with one hand.

yeah, another clear example of the infinite wisdom that is NJ. They probably saw images of people firing their AK's with one hand in other countries and decided that the pistol grip was the source of all evil... i think i'd break something if i tried firing my ar with one hand (mine are a bit front heavy)
