I was in the same boat as you. I told my wife that I will enroll her and my son to a gun safety class, and I will buy locks and/or a safe for the guns that I'm about to purchase. The one gun I have is in the closet in a gun case, unsecured. However, I know my 7 yr old son very well. He has never been alone in our room, plus he has never gone anywhere near the closet in our room. That being said, I am getting a gun lock for it as soon as possible (this weekend).

I lock my room door, and keep guns and ammo seperated and up high.
