Dicks Ammunition Ban & NJ - Perfect together !

I was under the impression, up until a few minutes ago, that armor piercing handgun ammo was illegal. However, after reading the statutes, it appears that one is exempt from possession and discharge just like hollow point ammo. Am I wrong?

 

Hollowpoint ammo is f(1), AP is f(2), g(2) a. only exempts f(1), not f (2).

 

You can have no more than 3 of each "distinctive variation" (headstamp, design, composition or color) of AP ammo, provided you have a C&R.

Holy crap, a lot of questions and not a lot of answers. Here are SOME answers, but I don't know all of them.

 

First of all, I am talking Fed, not NJ.

 

Pretty much any ammo that is AP that ever had a handgun designed for it is illegal to sell or make. I don't think it's illegal to own, BUT THERE ARE PITFALLS. I don't want to hear any "But But!" I warned you that it's complicated if it's regulated ammo and I'm not getting into it.

 

M855/SS109 is not AP. In any way, shape or form. But ATF specifically made an exception for it in order to avoid confusion.

 

.308 AP is considered handgun AP (joke is on us) and is regulated.

 

.30-06 is specifically exempted.

 

.50 BMG is not regulated, not sure if it has a specific exception or it is not considered a pistol round. As others have said, handguns have been made for it, but they were shut down by the ATF for reasons I don't fully understand.
