Hi all, I applied or my union county FIB and handgun permits 1 month ago, the clerk told me it will take about 6-8 weeks.I only lived in jersey for 4 yrs so when filling out the mental health form I had to list my last previous addresses. it was 4 yrs in dutchess county n.y. and 2 yrs in Westchester county n.y. Will this effect the time it takes to get my permits because they need to do an out of state mental health check? Thanks everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone knows the exact procedure to the mental health check? Is it a national data base mental health check,or would they have to contact the other new york counties that I lived in for separate mental health checks? Thanks again for the advice

The Mental Health Check is done through Albany, so I guess the NJ State Police will contact Albany NY rather than the individual counties. Go to Post # 21 below
