  1. Stumbled on this thread looking for something else. Nevertheless I think a question is warranted. Here we are, more than a year after the assurances of NRA changes for the better in the near future. I see nothing posted since, and I have not heard of any changes for the better in that organization. So, what did change? Anything? Was a new thread started to document NRA developments, rather than posting about them here? I think I know the answer, but I also think it's worth revisiting. I also find it extremely interesting that a forum search for "NRA" yields ZERO results. I had no such issue when searching for "NAGR", which was how I came upon this thread. Is that a search quirk, or is it possible that someone with forum administrative authority is somehow quashing search results on "NRA" to avoid negative comments here about that organization? Showing results for 'NRA'. - New Jersey Gun Forums.pdf
  2. To me, it's even more basic than that. Every critter on this planet (ncluding Man) has a natural right to defend itself from physical attack. Beyond that, all humans, as individual reasoning beings, have a rational right to self-protection. Then we get to the social contract called the U. S. Constitution that puts hard limits on what the Federal and (by 14th A extension) State governments may regulate, with arms possession regulation being explicitly and expressly barred. What the government is doing regarding individual firearms possession is, to me, literally unnatural.
  3. So, in NJ, "ex post facto" applies only if a new law gets a new code section designation?
  4. And what kind of after-the-fact legal force does such a declaration of "intent" wield? I would think none at all. Otherwise the wording would clearly state that the permit-holder is limited to carry only those firearms listed, intent be damned. More than likely that was some legislative aide imbecile's wet-dream attempt to skate the periphery of some mistaken idea of what is permissible under the Bruen historical consistency requirement.
  5. I do not own any .22 cal firearm. I was assuming that an air or gas gun at close range would be more discrete than any pyro gun. Based on some responses, it looks like that assumption may have been erroneous. Nevertheless, I'm trying to not add additional calibers to my "real" firearms. Right now, everything is .357/.38, 9mm, .308, or 12 ga. If there was a reasonable selection of compact semi pistols available in .357/.38, I wouldn't even have added the 9mm...
  6. I was already looking into Cheyenne. Their on-line catalog is an anachronistic mess, but they do seem to have a Gamo.177 10 shot break rifle that would get the job done, for what these days is a not completely outrageous price. And they are within reasonable driving distance. Thanks.
  7. I understand and emphasize with that, but I want to get rid of the damned varmint before it digs any more dirt out from under my shed slab. I'll continue to try to hurt PRNJ revenues on less pressing matters...
  8. I have a groundhog problem that I intend to solve by trapping with a Havahart. After I capture it (assumption) I am considering dispatching it quietly rather than going to the trouble and risk of relocating. A good air or CO2 powered pellet rifle would be ideal, but I jave no idea who carries these in NJ. I checked ShootersNJ site, but could not find any listed. Can anyone here point me to a seller in South Jersey? Thanks
  9. I found this thread because I have a groundhog problem. I intend to use a Havahart trap to capture, but thinking about getting an air rifle to dispatch it so that I don't need to go to the trouble and risk of relocating the critter. I think the Hammer is very interesting, but it might be a bit of overkill for this application I'd use a body grip kill trap on it directly, but I don't want to put my dog or a couple of neighborood cats at risk.
  10. OT, but that 3/8" diameter limitation is kind of intriguing. Seems to imply that if someone produced CO2 rifle for larger projectiles (e.g., 10mm), it would be exempt...
  11. California? Massachusetts? NY? I think there are several states that can compete with NJ in the tyrant sweepstakes, although NJ may enjoy a narrow lead at this time.
  12. Assuming that the qualifications that some of us met to obtain a post-Bruen NJ permit to carry are now considered inadequate, how would the state be empowered to take any enforcement action against a permit holder without first notifying him or her personally of the revised requirements, and the consquences of not meeting those? I lost my driver's license morfe than once for speeding violations when I was a young man. NJ MVC had to write me to tell me that my license was suspended, for how long, and what I needed to do to get it reinstated, not just publish some public notice that claimed that anyone who had accumulated 12 points in 3 years was required to stop driving until he or she passed an approved driving safety class.
  13. Yes, that is how I use the loop, and why I'm moderately concerned about misplacing it. SIting the loop to most effectively constrain the free end is sometimes a compromise, depending on the belt loop location on the pants/shorts I'm wearing at the time. I just finished a two week working trip to our off-grid property, and I wore my Kore belt every day for about 12 hours, with my SP101 in an OWB holster. It was pretty comfortable, for the most part. I did discover that one of the pairs of pants I took were self-belted, so I wore the Kore as a stand-alone gun belt that day. I felt the edge of the belt digging into my waist on numerous occasions, which was to be expected. I wouldn't claim that it was extremely painful, but it wasn't comfortable, either.
  14. I did me. I can see your point about thread continuity, but to me that is something that should be handled by restrictions on what members can and cannot do with their posts, after the fact.
  15. Firearms road-rage in Pine Hill??? Egad. I lived in Stratford when I was a kid in the late 1950s. It was an extremely uneventful ("boring" might be the approriate term :-) town, and Pine Hill was considered rural and quiet even by comparison. I'm pretty sure I recall correctly that my pediatrician at the time, Dr. Peter DeMarco, was located in Pine Hill.
  16. On further consideration, I think that I might not want an adult in my home at all if I was not comfortable with that person carrying there.
  17. I had decided to purge my account after what I viewed as an unwarranted, heavy handed, whack at a post I made by one moderator. I'm no longer certain whether or not I want to bail. I began monitoring posts here after a month or so, and then yielded to the temptation to chime in. My return to you is, YTF do you care? If you have a specific problem with something I've posted, feel free to take issue with that (you never seemed to have a problem doing that in the past).
  18. I will do that. Thanks, both for reminding me that the potential to shoot 9 mm from my NBH exists, and the follow-up advice!
  19. I have a 2011 New Blackhawk 6.5" in.357. You don't happen to know if those 9mm cylinders are compatible with NBH of that vintage, do you? I think I saw that Ruger had come out with the convertible BH a few years ago, but I dismissed it at the time because I had no intention of ever owning a 9mm handgun Then NJ carry happened, and my EDC is now a 9. I'm a big fan of versatility in my firearms, and the ability to shoot 9mm from at least one of my .357 pieces would be great.
  20. Agreed. I also 100% support the right and respect the decision of those who disagree with those restrictions to refuse to patronize any business or associate with any person that would arbitrarily suspend their right to self defense while on premises. Fundamental liberty is at work in both instances. I do have a problem with carry prohibitions by those corporatist entities that enjoy a government created and enforced monopoly on essential goods and services, but the main objection there is to corporatism writ large, not the specific policy.
  21. Didn't show up for me. Possibly a side-effect of the extremely locked-down default state of my browser (although it is unusual for page sections to entirely disappear...) Sorry!
  22. I was jumping ahead to try to anticipate how these weasel-brained mofos do what passes in for thinking in their species. If the complaintant is not satisfied that they did their investigation in compliance with the law, the next step could well be filing a lawsuit. I wouldn't put it past them to cite that contingency as an excuse for foot-dragging even before things actually came to that pass.
  23. I'm pretty sure you could legally carry while airborne, flying a private plane, subject to any restrictions in the rental agreement (and nobody is going to do a fly-by to check), but I suspect that even a lot of smaller airports may be regulated out the kazoo on such matters, especially given that even in civil aviation there is frequently quite an overlap between local, state and federal authorities. Before takeoff and after touchdown, I'm not sure I'd want to try to definitively analyze what is and is not legal transport. If you subscribe to one of the legal expense insurance companies (I have US LawShield) it might be a good test to try to get them to do the analysis for you :-)
  24. Or they will claim it is potential litigation and use it as an excuse to slow things down even further...
