  1. Sorry but i have always thought the Hakim was just an ugly rifle. I'll take Belgian workmanship over Egyptian any day. They haven't made anything decent since the pyramids .The Hakim is a copy of the Swiss Ljungman. Its just a matter of taste but i'll keep my Garand and FN-49. We should try to get a day at Range 14 for some fun though. Comparing an SKS to a Hakim is like comparing a M14 to an M16. TC
  2. Glen its not direct impingement it has a piston that pushes an operating rod into the bolt and drives it back. There is no linkage though. It is similar to the SKS but designed before the war. The MAS49-56 is direct gas impingement and it works, wish I hadn't sold mine. TC
  3. I paid around $350 back in the 90s. I saw the rifle in a Guns and Ammo Surplus special issue and put it on my want it list. I was browsing The Firearms Guild in Rahway one day and bang there it was. I had to get it. Now they go for poor condition $475 to $1000 depends on the type, the rare ones are more. I'll post more pictures if your interested. TC
  4. Lunker its an Egyptian contract made in Belgium for the king of Egypt. Its 8mm Mauser and a hoot to shoot. In several ways its actually better then the Garand. Much simpler operation. Tom
  5. I had my Egyptain FN-49 at Fort Dix a few weeks ago and tried out the video feature of my camera. Thought I'd share. TC
  6. I'd go for the 15-22, I did last Christmas and love it. I like my hand guns but hate the hassle of going to the PD everytime I want to buy one. I rather walk in and out of the store same day with my long gun. The less involved local goverment is the better in my book. Its also alot of fun to shoot. TC
  7. Tony, thanks its a great rifle, and thanks again for your help, I will call you again as soon as I can save up for another one. The zero only took a few shots and it handles great. Old Glock Guy sorry I didn't get back top you but you saw the light on your own. I was interested in the Ruger SR-22 but why buy a 10-22 in AR clothing when you can get the real deal. TC
  8. I bought the S&W Mags when I got the rifle. I would definately have got 15 rounders if I knew about them thanks for the link. Tom
  9. "> I finally got to Fort Dix last Saturday and was able to try out my S&W15-22. Its a great rifle but the 10 round Mags suck. Damn NJ The 3 rounds in the bull were the final confirmation of the zero of the iron sights at 25 meters, took about 12 rounds to get it in. I couldn't recomend this rifle highly enough. Also broke out the FN-49 my Mauser 98,PTR-91 and Colt Hbar. It was a great day with my 17 year old son.
  10. Uncle Sam introduced me to CLP in the early 80s it replaced RBC and GAA. If it works on a 105mm bore and breach block as well as the bore evacuator it will work on your weapons. Not to mention every small arm you find in an Armor Company. For really tough stuff like lead or copper fouling I break out a tougher solvent but its great as an all around cleaner and lube. it also is a great rust preventer as well. I conducted my own little test to see how it worked to stop rust. I took 4 10 penny nails and drove them into a wood block. Coated one with clp, one with WD 40 one with a silicon lube and one bare. put them in a container of water for 2 weeks and then let them sit out for 2 weeks. The only nail without rust was the CLP one. TC
  11. This is a tough call, but remember your local and State Police have all your hand gun purchases on record. They get a copy of all issued permits. They know you have them. Personal story someone we know was making threats against the family. The wife was upset and went to the police to make a complaint. The police replied what are you worried about your husband has lots of guns. I'm sure they didn't go into a very deep back ground check. They Know. As a retired National Guardsman I know that I would not obey an order to confiscate law abiding citizens firearms. TC
  12. I stop by pretty regularly, the trick is to get involved. Its a kind of "Cheers" like place. I stop by to say hi when I'm not looking for stuff, swap stories and visit. I have bought several guns there have refered friends. Joe buys a lot of collections so you never know whats on the shelf. TC
  13. It is extremely difficult to fire the grossly incompetent. I've tried and had legal shoot down the case. We can get them on poor attendence, stealing and insubordination but its very difficult for screwing up. I'm sure you have all heard of progressive discipline, well it takes major F-ups to get there. Testing doesn't count , its a training tool, real f-ups can lead to discipline and termination eventually. Remember what I said about where most of these folks were hired from. No self discipline, work ethic or professionalism. Most large airports are in the same bind. They hire from that same urban population. LAX has gang issues in the work force. Our newest hires though are Vets or folks recently laid off and the quality of the work force is improving. As to the officers sleeping was it at an X-ray or in a seating area? Alot of places don't have TSA break rooms so a guy who cat naps during lunch break has to do it in public. Looks bad but they have no option. We have to rent space from the PA it isn't cheap. So any office or storage space we need at the airport is paid for with tax $. FYI, it isn't always TSA a large portion of the traveling public is made up of A$$holes, present company excluded of course. And pilots don't poop angels carry away their waste.:thsmiley_deadhorse: Just a little venting. One guy actually called one of my officers the "n" word, while he was just doing his job. TC
  14. The machines are only as good as the officers using them. The urban populations that equal an oppertunity inclined politacally correct agency might hire do not provide the most dedicated, experianced motivated work force one might desire in a security agency. Just a theory. Also like any technology they can be fooled. The TSA testers also get paid to get through. TC
  15. Welcome to the forum, I live in Woodbridge as well, near Woodbridge High School. i haven't gotten a pistol permit in quite awhile, sticking to long guns. How long did it take?
  16. All vets respect all of our brothers in arms. But we all love to bust chops. The Marines say, "oorah" The Army says, "hooah' The Air Force says, "Soy latte please"
  17. thanks for the help guys, as far as the DYS, it seems to have a power steering leak and may need struts, might as well just have the brakes done as well and its to damn cold out. It also doesn't have tracks so I'm lost (lol). An hour ride to Tony just wouldn't work. TC
  18. Hey folks, Can anyone recommend a good mechanic/auto repair operation. My sons car ,(2000 Volvo) needs brakes and possible front end work. I live in Woodbridge so driving to Atlantic City is out of the question. I'm not looking for a break just honesty, fair dealing and good repairs. TC
  19. +1 especially Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer. TC
