  1. Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever been asked for their hunting license at a WMA shooting range? I've been to several many, many times, and have actually never seen a conservation officer there. I've seen state troopers and cops drive through, but never a F&W officer.

I'm no expert, but my gun still suffered more frequent issues until maybe 300+ rounds. Once I got a bunch of boxes through it, things started getting better. It runs nearly flawlessly now. (I wouldn't trust it in a real gunfight yet, though).

How many rounds do you have through it? Mine only started working great after a few hundred rounds.

I use either Magtech or Freedommunitions, both of which I have few problems. I found that the reloads I make for my rifle and revolver were too low power to reliably cycle the action. Whenever I'm having a few problems, I usually realize my meaty palm is pushing on the bottom of the magazine.

I have a DE in 44 magnum. It is one of my most fun guns. It took about 500 rounds for things to smooth out, but it runs very well now. Between the gas operation and the weight of the gun, it has much less recoil than other large caliber handguns. It is a PITA to clean. I also have to remember to keep my meaty palms from hitting the bottom of the magazine (which seems to be one of the most common causes of FTE). It's very fun to shoot in an indoor range. It produces fireballs and a sound that is very distinctive. I can shoot it as well as any handgun i own, though. Very fun.
  6. It's not on their rental PDF menu yet. I had wanted to rent one, but figured I'd rent something else (PPQ?). Then, while filling out paperwork I saw it on the wall!
  7. First picked up yesterday was the second half of a pair of Ruger Vaquero SASS model revolvers, in 357/38. I picked up the other one 6 months ago. Next will be an H&K VP9, on day 31...
  8. I was at Gun For Hire waiting for NICS to pickup a gun, and rented an H&K VP9 to pass the time. I shot about 150 rounds, and the handgun is fantastic! Feels great in my hands, ergonomics just like my H&K HK45, and I shot it very well. 29 days until I get another handgun, and it's going to be a VP9!
  9. So on day T+64 I was walking in my house from work around 7pm and my wife told me that Sgt Nassaur was on the phone. He was apologetic and told me my permits had been done for quite a while. I got back in my car and drove right over to the PD (about 1/2 block away, we share backyards). Met Sgt Nassaur. He told me he had finished quite a long time ago, put a note on them for someone else to give me a call, and it never happened. He just found them and was surprised. He told me not to worry about the $6 for the permits. They were signed on 11/28/14, which puts the completion date at T+28, which is darn good. Of course now I'll probably only be able to use two of them, but he will happily renew the third (assuming I can get ahold of him). Like me, he is not good with voicemail. He gave me the names of two other FPD officers to also contact when dealing with firearms issues. So, it's mostly a good story. Super fast approval (as before), but terrible communications. Sgt Nassaur was friendly and helpful, just no good at returning calls. I'd prefer that over a town that works against me.
  10. Sales people need to be nice to everyone. Without that, a business fails, or at least fails to do as well as it could. The salesperson's perception of the customer is not an important component to the equation.
  11. Yes, many times. The Fanwood PD is effectively empty most of the time. I've left Sgt Nassaur 4 or 5 voicemails, none of which he has ever returned. I've asked the secretary to tell me when he was on duty, but still have had trouble reaching him. Sgt Jedic was easy to contact, and even gave me his cell phone number to use when he was on duty.
  12. Just got back from 8 day vacation, was hoping that the Fanwood PD might have called, but no such luck. Today is T+60, a new all-time record for Fanwood.
  13. There are many people in prison who had all the materials in their home to cook meth. They were not cooking, they were not using, but they had purchased all the means necessary, and that's all they need. In fact, crossing a state line with more than $10K of cash will land you in jail for a short time, and get all your cash seized permanently, because it seems like something someone somehow involved in drugs might do for some reason. I think you are OK with your non-compliant barrel in your home as long as you want. However, if something else goes wrong in your life (like maybe two criminals break in when you aren't home and kill each other), when the cops search and find it they are going to try to jam you up. It's all a matter of risk management.
  14. That's OK with me. I'm not going to sell a gun to someone who wants their identity to be secret from me.
  15. Former Sergeant got things done in 30-35 days. New Sergeant (Sgt. Nassaur) is not doing as well. Took 21 days to get ref letters out. I'm now on day 45 and about to start nagging him. Are there any other Fanwood residents on the forum with recent permitting experiences? Timeline: T-0 - online background check submitted T - permit forms submitted to PD T+21 - reference 1 received T+22 - reference 1 returned T+25 - reference 2 returned T+45 - today... -Dave
  16. I think the answer is in your own Home Range description...
  17. Wow. I stopped going to indoor ranges for 12 years because my experiences at BH were so terrible. In my RSO and CRSO courses every example of what you shouldn't do as an RSO were things that the BH guys did all the time, every time. I never saw anyone shoot themselves, but I did see a guy shoot out a lightbulb. And then a second one 15 minutes later. Probably because he was holding his pistol sideways while grabbing his crotch.
  18. Also, he had to constantly reload in this movie, and even ran out of bullets at inconvenient times. He was great on the reloading.
  19. I was annoyed with the world last night, so went out for a late night movie by myself and saw "John Wick" starring Keanu Reeves as a retired super hit man who is dragged back into action when he's accidentally targeted by the wrong guy. Tons of shooting, and more point blank head shots than any other 10 movies you've seen combined. Kel-Tec KSG, H&K all over, lots of cool stuff. Perhaps a great movie, but a fun way to relax for 2 hours.
  20. Convenient place to go. You don't mess up your house or present a situation that your family is going to have to see. You're in a place that isn't going to look at you funny if you have a gun, and you know that this happens at ranges sometimes. I think it happens at every range at least once. I've never heard a range owner tell me it didn't happen.
  21. If you tell us where you live, roughly, we might know about close-by ranges you don't know about.
  22. I think the ads are ok. I think they might get more NRA members, which might be nice. At worst, they might soften people's perception of the NRA, which would be good. I don't know how they would influence the laws. Our elected officials vote the way their parties tell them to, regardless of personal opinion or their constituents' opinions. The Republican party in NJ (barely) defends the 2A, the Democratic party has been told not to defend the 2A, so they don't, even if they'd like to. Republicans can't support 2A more than they do because of the demographics of the state, and Democrats can't support 2A more than they do because they will be removed by the machine in the next primary. Judges who have long terms who drift from their previous party affiliation as they are allowed to actually think about issues are the only hope.
