  1. I agree with the $250-$300 range. Surplus CMP 30-06 goes for around 50 cents a round when available. The surplus 308 a little less. Maybe $350. What is the headstamp on the ammo? Is there an "LC" on the 30-06 for Lake City?
  2. Interesting article in the NY Times today. Neither particularly pro- or anti-gun, just an interesting story about the 1949 S&W revolver which shot an NYC cop in the chest earlier this week when it dropped during a frisk. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/30/nyregion/30gun.html?_r=1&hpw
  3. Actually, I'm sure they are open late Thursday night as well. I bought my Browning 22LR pistol there last Thursday evening.
  4. Of all the evil features listed on the AG's website about "assault firearms" http://www.state.nj.us/lps/dcj/agguide/assltf.htm 1. a folding or telescoping stock; 2. a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; 3. a bayonet mount; 4. a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and 5. a grenade launcher; ...the folding or telescoping stock one has always seemed the least likely. The pistol grip identifies an entire style Ar15/M16/AK rifle. Bayonet mounts are on military guns. Flash suppressors at least seem evil (why don't you want people to see where you are firing??), and grenade launchers are completely over the top. Even folding stocks I get; some of those wild military guns with the folding stocks might seem scary to someone writing a ruling, and with the stock folded they are really small... But telescoping stocks? What's the deal with that? It makes it hard to correctly fit a rifle if you are bigger or smaller than average. It makes a whole range of very non-scary competition guns illegal. It just seems weird to me. What is scary and/or potentially evil about a telescoping stock? The rifle still has to meet NFA rules about overall length, right? (I know, NJ is stupid, the people who write the laws are stupid, etc, but I can at least see where their confused minds got 4.5 out of the 5 guidelines; the telescoping stock thing just doesn't make sense to me).
  5. I have one in the Marketplace section right now, less than 100 rounds from new. PM me an offer....
  6. Trap guns usually have barrels at least 28". 20" is going to be tough, but Mossberg has actual clay models...
  7. Any time I've heard about microstamping it's been about ammo. All handguns already have serial numbers. I guess you could scratch it off, but couldn't you just scratch off a microstamp too? Did some NJ politician just hear the word "microstamp" and misunderstand what was meant?

  9. This is where I buy most of my stuff. Bought a Browning Buck Mark and a Kimber 1911 recently. The most friendly of the NJ shops I frequent.
  10. Next time I have to defend the 2A, I'm going to try to remember some of Ted's points. He is a great guy, and very clear with what he believes.
  11. 1. initially too lazy to reload tonight, but was energized by the price and wait. 2. I'll watch anything with Gordon Ramsey!
  12. Stopped by Dicks in Woodbridge. They had 4 boxes of Remington 308 150gr, but the single salesman running the entire second floor had around 6 people waiting for him in the fishing department, so I gave up. I'm going to do a lot of 308 shooting this weekend... So, went home, and did this: Made 54 308 Winchester, using Hornady 30309 HPBP 150gr bullets. My cost is around $0.61 each, which is much less than boxed ammo, and I know this stuff is accurate. This took exactly one hour (the length of Hell's Kitchen on Fox tonight, which I was watching). The key to speed, IMHO, is the RCBS automatic powder dispenser. -Melgamatic
  13. 36 days in Fanwood, including one of my references taking over a week because he didn't realize I was waiting.
  14. Strangely, I've seen lots of primers in the past few weeks. I am pretty sure that Dunkelbergers in Stroudsburg will have them for around $34. They also have had all the powder I've needed lately, and have had every brand ammo in every caliber lately. They also had the RCBS die I wanted last time I was there. There are some strange political issues with Dunkelbergers (I believe they video tape all firearm transactions for the NYC police, if you can believe that), and they seem to have a completely incorrect view of what guns are legal in NJ and which are not, but for supplies, ammo and primers they've had what I needed. -Melgamatic
  15. I load my own 223, and have won two high power matches (my only two matches, my first two matches!) using rounds I loaded myself. I did around 10 different loads before finding one that made me happy. Here is the cost breakdown: Primer 0.03 ($34.99 per thousand) Powder 0.09 (24gr at $24.99 per pound = 7000 grains) Bullet 0.19 (Sierra Matchking 53gr, 500 for $95 at Cabelas) Total $0.31 This doesn't include the wear on the polishing media in the tumbler, nor case lube, etc. I think I will start buying high quality brass instead of reloading the PMC and Winchester stuff I have. -Melgamatic
  16. Unfortunately, stripped lowers are "handguns" in PA. It's not a new law, but a new recent interpretation by the gov. So, you can't buy them in PA without having them shipped to a NJ FFL, and then using a purchase permit to pick it up. Dunkelbergers had 5 different brands at $130 each and I was going to try one of each, but the saleman was disappointed to learn I was a NJ resident. Of course you can buy a rifle made with one of those as a NJ resident, which really doesn't make sense, even for crazy gun laws.
  17. I would have put this site in the "uselessly small amount of data" category. They only have at most, one load, for many of the bullet/caliber combos I've put in, and 0 loads for most of them.... Are you actually seeing good data there?
  18. I'm actually going the opposite way. 52 grain Matchking bullet, but with a little more powder. No need for the heavier bullet at 100 yards and a 1:9" twist...
  19. The optic on the first rifle looks very far forward; is it easy to use with that much eye relief? I found my own EoTech was much easier to use when mounted closer.
  20. How much does that go for, if you don't mind me asking?? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=130357950
  21. Took a drive out to Cabela's today. Took 90 minutes from off Exit 42 on Rt 78. They were completely out of 22LR (as opposed to last time, when they had 100's of the wooden boxes of Wild Cat at a good price. They did have 100's of boxes of Hornady 17, but at a high price. They had a nice selection of powder, got some Winchester 231 and some IMR 4895, which has been hard to find lately. It's nice to visit a store where they have 4 different case trimmers to compare, most reloading dies in stock, etc. No 9mm bullet for reloading, though. -Melgamatic
  22. Yes, just 100yds. That's the only real downside.
  23. They do, it is just a little weird. It's off the airport access road. The new driveway will be easier to explain, but less fun.
