  1. GAPP will be offering an AR beginners course on June 5, 2011 at Fort Dix Range 14. This course is the NRA First steps rifle course (specifically for the AR rifle platform). It is designed to introduce the new AR-15 owner to their rifle properly and safely. The classroom portion covers the history of the platform, disassembly, reassembly, cleaning, and aftermarket accessories... as well as the laws regarding rifles of this type. Several models are available to look at and will be used for demonstration in the classroom... and one can be provided for use on the range if you dont own an AR yet and just want to learn how to shoot one. After lunch, we head out to the range and zero your rifle... and see if you can hit a steel plate at 200 yards. The course length is approximately 6 hours and the cost is $150. If youre a new AR owner or if you've had one sitting in your safe for a while, come out and learn more about it. For registratoin info, go to www.gappnj.com and look at our upcoming courses.
  2. I have an older model Franchi 20 ga semi-auto shotgun. The magazine follower broke (small plastic piece just snapped in half). The magazine tube needs to be removed in order to replace the follower... and the tube is a bear to get out. I brought it to a gunsmith and he is having a tough time too. So my question is, does anyone know a shop that specializes in Franchi or does anyone have any experience with this firearm?
  3. I hate you a little bit right now Joel... but at the same time, I happy you finally admitted a glock is no more reliable than a kimber.
  4. Yeah, rereading it now, I may be misreading the law... maybe we both are... but with the legal mumbo-jumbo in the law, its easy to do. In section 2a they talk about exemptions to the law... then in 3a they talk about further exemptions (pertaining to non-residents)... but do those exemptions only apply after someone has been arrested and is sitting in front of a judge? How screwed up is that? And why would they set a law up for failure? I think Dan hit the nail on the head when he said they are just looking to discourage people from outside PA from carrying in Phili. I have two attorneys that help me out with my CCW and Personal Protection classes... Im going to bounce this issue off of them and get their take on it. And by the way Bob, I dont think you're being argumentative, I appreciate the input... from both of you. Legal issues can confuse just about anyone and I always welcome a second viewpoint. I and an LEO that works with me spend about an hour in the class this thread is about talking about CCW laws... but since Im not an attorney, I give out a CD with the pertinent state laws so students can interpret them for themselves.
  5. Yes you are correct about the law not holding any water in the courts... but it will take someone with deep pockets to appeal and defeat it. But take a look at the law again... subsection 3a "in addition to the persons categorized in subsection (2)(a), the following persons shall not be prohibited from carrying a firearm upon the public streets or public property: (a) a person licensed to carry a firearm or to hunt by a state with firearms laws similar to the firearms laws of Pennsylvania, and which provides a reciprocal privilege for individuals licensed by Pennsylvania. For purposes of this subsection (a), only the following states are deemed to have firearms laws similar to those of Pennsylvania: Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Montana, North Dakota and Utah." So as I read the law (but I am no lawyer), the Utah permit is valid in Phili
  6. GAPP has another CCW class coming up. This one will be held at Fort Dix Range 14 on May 22, 2011. Florida and Utah are the most sought after permits in the nation because they are the most widely recognized... and with the recent law change in Philadelphia, the UT permit has become a lot more valuable for those traveling to the city of brotherly love. We provide all services necessary to get a concealed carry permit in both UT and FL including the applications, envelopes, passport photos, finger prints, notary seal, and UT CFP instructor seal. We also help you fill in the application so it wont be returned for being completed improperly. For a full course description, registration information, and other class dates, go to www.gappnj.com.
  7. I saw red when I saw this new "target" the Brady campaign is using for a new add... I hope you do as well. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/12/fiancee-of-giffords-victim-works-hill-gun-control_n_847929.html?ref=email_share
  8. Responded to you PM, sorry for the bad news.
  9. There are still slots available for this class. If you want your UT and FL CCW permits, dont miss out on this class, its one stop shopping for prints, passport photos, etc. Anyone who knows what he UT curriculum is about will tell you the class is pretty basic... but our team ads quite a bit to the necessary curriculum and even the veteran shooters in the group learned a few things. And the classes are a good time as well. www.gappnj.com
  10. Ive been hit by slag rebounding off of backstops before... and have seen people cut open by slugs bouncing off of steel. I dont wear reading glasses so I count myself lucky... but everytime Im on the range, I wear wraparound eye protection and suggest you all do the same. The last thing you want is an eye injury becuase the eye glasses you wear arent impact rated or other types are too bulky. Eyes and ears are nothing to muck with... protect them as best you can.
  11. Ive seen the plans for the facility and its impressive, cant wait to see it finished.

    SCFGPA

For those interested, its a good club. Since its indoors, it has its limitations but also has its benefits. There are some really good folks at the club and you'll enjoy it if you join. For those of you joining, you'll be seeing me if you need to go through the mandatory NRA training.
  13. Les, Im glad you enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing you again.
  14. The Smith 460 can shoot 460 magnum, 454 casull, and 45 Long Colt. But you may be asking about the Sig P250... the same action can be used for three different frames (9mm, 40 cal, and 45 ACP).
  15. I agree... great meeting. Im glad to see some well organized people trying to change gun laws in NJ for the better. And Im glad you like the presentation.

    Flooding

I live in Bound Brook so I know flooding all too well. Hope everyone stayed high and dry.
  17. My poncho is camoflage... does that make it tactical in your eyes?
  18. Intent is a gray area and can be proven either way... it depends how effective the legal team is I suppose. Below is a link to an article about an FBI agent found guilty of weapons charges... and his intent was to collect and when he got tired of a gun, he resold them. Im not sure if anyone has seen this or not, but you may want to take a look. The facts of the case were kind of shady but this basically applies to a collector buying and reselling firearms. http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-national/jury-finds-fbi-s-shipley-guilty-on-gun-charges
  19. Another great post Malsua... thanks for the info and clearing it up. Most of the raffles Ive seen in NJ do not have the proper license (I suspect) and thats probably why the NJSP have been cracking down in recent years.
  20. The law does read "purchaser" but you know as well as I do, the gun grabbers would (and in NJ they do) make the arguement that the transfer is illegal because it was intended for a third party.
  21. Malsua... great post, but I have some questions: Are all the gun raffles held at benefit dinners and gun competitions illegal? Or is a blind eye just turned when it comes to those specific instances (outside of NJ that is)? And is this actual law, or is the ATF just making policy and interpreting a law (like the NJSP and AG do all too often)? Im not questioning what is written in black and white and not attacking you... just posing some questions for the board. To answer the original intent of the post, yeah it would be illegal. It may not fall under a straw purchase but it would definately fall under illegal arms dealing. I would equate it to buying an AR lower and building it for personal use... or buying an AR lower, building it, and reselling it. One is a hobby, one is illegal manufacture of firearms.
  22. I always have a rain poncho in the truck for emergencys... and normally have a spare set of clothes in the back seat so I can avoid those long, cold rides home. Sunday I was wearing my rain jacket... it didnt help much.
