  1. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/us_and_canada/10536793.stm Supposedly sending luggage to the wrong destination after it's been pilfered is a common ploy by baggage handlers
  2. My post from another thread: The state police site on weapon/ammo transportation http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/about/fire_trans.html are guidelines, SOME of which are based on NJ law. Specifically: The way I interpret that, the guidelines say the ammo and the firearm can be in the SAME locked container. The *LAW* starts here (2C:39-1): http://lis.njleg.state.nj.us/cgi-bin/om_isapi.dll?clientID=220725&Depth=2&depth=2&expandheadings=on&headingswithhits=on&hitsperheading=on&infobase=statutes.nfo&record={1A38}&softpage=Doc_Frame_PG42 Regarding legal transport of firearms, the *LAW* says: I haven't been able to find anything in the *STATUTES* on the transportation of ammunition. Has anyone else? If ammunition transportation is not specifically defined in the statutes then my interpretation is that there is NO restriction on how you transport ammo that is not "loaded" into a firearm.
  3. Bought mine used, all the screws were already in. Started to take out another one tonight, same damn thing, going to have to use the extractor.
  4. Heated it up with a butane "jet" torch, then tossed it on ice in the freezer, then pulled it out and cranked on it with a socketed allen key and a long ratchet handle. That stripped the head out right quick. So, got out the screw extractor set, drilled it and tapped in an extractor and torqued it and it finally came loose. Hell if I know what the problem was - don't see any loc-tite residue or corrosion on the threads:
  5. I'm trying to remove this allen head cap screw out of my ACE skeleton stock so I can put in a stud to mount a sling swivel for a two point sling: I've tried an allen key and put so much torque on it I thought the key was going to snap, or that I was going to round out the top of the screw. It didn't budge. What gives? Are these put in with red loc-tite or something? Anyone else had to take one of these out of an ACE stock?
  6. Have not owned a revolver yet, but been thinking about one of the J frames as a backup carry once I leave NJ. I do like the idea of fewer failure modes with easier fixes in a revolver - a failure to fire is solved by pulling the trigger again. I also like the idea of a revolver once I get old and creaky and an autoloader becomes harder for me to operate.
  7. Cool. PK90's pmags still preferable to me though because you can remove the baseplate and put ranger plates on those. These have a permanently fixed baseplate.
  8. Yeah, liking the blue box idea, it's a pain stacking up all my ammo in the safe when the boxes from different manufacturers are different sizes. Can I buy those boxes in bulk too?
  9. Let me guess, there's a bunch of leatherman tools on that table too. They going to outlaw lawnmower blades too? Coming soon? (click on image to enlarge):

  11. Where exactly at Cabelas is 1000 rounds of .223 for $180?
  12. Welcome to the grenadier brotherhood!
  13. Recessed Filter's posts nailed it. I have one, love it, keeping it, but it does have quirks. It's fun, cheap to shoot and an excellent "gateway" gun for getting people who are new to firearms comfortable with shooting. The BATF recall on the "silencer" was for the GSG5 **SD** models only. If the GSG5 isn't an SD, then it is not affected. AR15.com thread on the recall: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=41&t=305635 The importer, American Tactical Imports, has been very responsive on the customer service side in my experience. Ammo is cheap, but the GSG is picky about what .22 ammo it will run reliably. Best bet is copper plated hollow points. The Federal bulk packs work well: Check out this guy's youtube channel, he has a lot of great vids on the GSG, including full teardown and reassembly: http://www.youtube.com/user/okfirearms And here's an AR15.com thread on common problems and recommended ammo: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=41&t=253513 If you get one, absolutely get the replacement fastener kit. Most importantly, make sure that you use blue loctite on the fasteners on the bolt itself. They are likely to back out over time if you don't.
  14. I liked the scene where the guy proudly proclaims a woman to be his "forest wife". Forest wife, City wife, Southern wife, Northern wife....
  15. No rifles, but several lego handguns available here: http://www.brickgun.com/Index.html
  16. If you want ammo in the meantime while waiting for your FID you can still mail order it or buy it in another state.
  17. Used S&B 9mm FMJ and 12 ga 00 Buckshot. No problems with the 9mm in a glock. 00 buckshot smokes more than usual and left more residue in barrel, but otherwise fine.
  18. Great article that I read and re-read: Massad Ayoob - How to shoot a handgun accurately http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/ayoob85.html
  19. Tell your brother he has to save at least one permit. Talk to the FFL, find out the out-the-door price for handgun, get it ordered. Put the cash for the out-the-door price in an envelope, label it "gift certificate for FFL, only to be opened by FFL". Give envelope to bro, he goes to FFL, purchases handgun on his own permit, no secondary f2f transfer needed.
  20. Pounding out knuckle kids in a fire lane not the best idea. Really!? Next you're going to tell me I shouldn't do it seated behind home plate at a Yankees game...
  21. Thanks for sharing bbk, looking good. What mount is needed for that H-1, or does it come with it?
  22. That incident report read like a true detective stories pulp novel..."blood lust"?
  23. I've encoded different fingers on both hands so just in case I screw up one or two fingerprints I can still get in.
  24. Yes, you have to swipe your fingerprint and actuate the latch mechanism again to get it to close.
