I don't have the DMS-1. On a flattop I would think it's medium or regular height rings.

I too am trying to avoid combination optics ... want a single unit that works at HD distances or up to 200 yards. So, I am also looking for something like the DMS-1 ... but ideally looking for 1.x-6X. In that magnification range, the prices are very high for illuminated versions and I don't want to spend that much on scope right now! I am inclined to buy this Pentax. If they made this illuminated ret, that would have been a win!

People (including this forum) who can't (or wouldn't) spell correctly or use correct grammar ... and on top of it are completely oblivious and nonchalant about it! Try and use the ',' in a sentence when called for (that's a comma, not an air-quote!), and other punctuation marks on the typing instrument called the keyboard in front of you. Yes #4 a prayer. If you plan on doing this out of your home, good luck it's something that rarely happens anymore in NJ, if your location is any where near a school, or church you also beat. So #1 is the primary hurdle? Is this anecdotal opinion, or is this surmising ... having to jump through hoops like dealing with any bureaucracy? Seems like Catch 22! One can't go secure stand-alone premises (buy/lease) without first making sure the permits are likely to be had ... though, with so many business shuttered in NJ, it will not be hard to find premises on the cheap. Given the number of hoops here, I agree #4 will be needed

What does that have to do with anything? take a sick day. lol. =) with a rifle, esp like the one you have, got to shoot outdoors. if cant sneak out at night, dix actually does let you shoot till 8pm on wed's... it is lighted. At this and other forums, I have read that an FFL license holder must also get some type of permit issued by NJ. I can't locate the thread here ... Does this requirement (additional NJ permit) apply to some or all types of FFL licenses? Any links w/ info would be appreciated.

Yesterday, I did get to try it out at BA. Would have preferred outdoors with a stable bench ... Marlin XL7; comes w/ rail mount for scope. NcStar Scope 3-9x40 (will try Nikon next time) BA doesn't have bench / chair combo to use, so ended up using the small horizontal ledge in the pit. Put the front section of a MTM rifle rest (no space for the rear!). Used a chair to plant my left foot to try and steady the rifle ... that proved difficult at best. My first time to shoot a bolt action in many decades! Last time I used a British 303 ... Loaded 4 rounds in the blind mag, chambering first round was a bit tricky the first time, but got the hang of it in the next batch. Couldn't really keep the rifle steady, so can't yet speak for accuracy.

Absolutely right John! For this application hardly no one uses anything more agressive than Walnut media. Corn cob is softest then walnut. We are buying a relatively courser corn cob media. I expect it to polish shiney and break down slower than finer corn cob. Walnut cleans well but leaves the cases more satin in finish. The dryer sheet is a good trick and I do that myself. Some add a small amount of polish to the media as well. I just use a conditioner. Radek- Are you reloading yet? rscalzo mentioned sand media as an option ... I don't know if anyone uses it on brass, but no reason it wouldn't work ... I suspect will be more expensive though. No, haven't started reloading yet. Trying to clear some work area in the basement to accommodate the Dillon and supplies. btw. if you still have some corn-media to sell, count me in on the split. Also, if you want to sell some of your 9mm FMJ bullets let me know. CR is way far for me, so mailing would be best ...

What material is Lizard Litter? So, options are: Corn-cob, Walnut Shells, sand blasting media ... How do you separate from media the "gunk" that's bound to come off of fired brass? I would think Corn-cob or Walnut Shells will eventually get dirty ... Sand media will also get mixed with the "gunk", might not get as dirty, but it still would need to be cleaned somehow ...?
