  1. A lot of load data was arrived at by simply examining the fired cases for pressure signs. Data in some of the newer manuals is arrived at using a pressure transducer. I believe that Speer made that change starting with Speer #9. This accounts for some of large differences we see from the older manuals to the latest ones. you should always start low and work up while checking for pressure signs. Adios, Pizza Bob
  2. While picking up my 29-8 the other day, I spied an interesting CZ at my dealer. Not the kind of thing you normally see, so I thought maybe somebody here might be interested... This gun has been worked over by Cajun Gun Works. Usual disclaimer - I have no connection to this shop (other than being a primo customer) and receive no recompense from any sales (other than my dealer's good will). Just thought it was interesting. PM me if you are interested. Adios, Pizza Bob
  3. FFL's can ship via USPS whereas a private individual cannot. Usually whatever fee your FFL charges you plus the actual shipping fee will be less than the shipping alone through UPS or FedEx since both of these shippers require that firearms be shipped overnight or second day air. Usually $50 - $100. Make friends with your FFL. Adios, Pizza Bob

    Omen?

Last night I picked up the latest addition to my S&W collection.... Sorry, not a great picture. It's a Talo, 1 of 1000, model 29-8 Mountain Gun (.44 Mag). Interesting because they made two separate/different mountain guns with the same model designation of 29-8. There was a stocking dealer special that came with Ahrends grips and was built on the four-screw frame - which is the current carbon steel frame, and then there is this Talo edition which comes with custom Altamont grips. What you can't see in the picture is that the bottom of the grip is stippled and has "MOUNTAIN" laser engraved. Here is the strange part - these were built on the three-screw carbon steel frame, which has not been used since 2000 (the DOM of this gun is 2011). It is well known that Smith never lets anything go to waste. Someone found a bin full of three-screw frames buried in the warehouse, so they utilized them by offering this special 1000 gun run to Talo. Here is the second weird thing - when I picked it up at my dealer I did a double take at the serial number: CRY1984. Is that an omen or what? Adios, Pizza Bob
  5. All's well that ends well. Got in touch with the party in question, thanks to the intervention of a Sig Forum member and consummated the transaction this morning, Will post pics when item is received. My understanding of the rugerforum kerfuffle is that the Captcha algorithm had expired and it cannot be renewed because it was upgraded and is now incompatible with the old software that drives that forum. But that has been the case since February. The impression that I got was that members already enrolled are totally unaware of the situation. Pretty sad way to run a forum. Maks, I don't know if this was one of the forums obtained by the Canadians. I do know that it was formerly owned by the current owner of Sig Forum and he is not happy that this has occurred with his former "baby". Adios, Pizza Bob
  6. Thanks. Responded, ball is now in the Ruger forum member's court. Adios, Pizza Bob
  7. Just what I said - trying to contact a member on rugerforum.com. There is no way to join that forum and no way to contact anyone on that forum unless you are already a member. Understand it has been that way since February. Hell of a way to run a forum. Adios, Pizza Bob
  8. Please contact me via PM. Trying to contact a member on the Ruger board. Thanks for any help. Adios, Pizza Bob

  10. Thanks. You'll have to ask my kids as I don't know what they'll do with them when I'm gone. LOL Adios, Pizza Bob
  11. You mean like this??? Sorry, NFS Adios, Pizza Bob
  12. The issue with single purchase and multiple exemption has been resolved. Here are the results; S&W Model 929, 9 mm. Currently in residence at my gunsmith for major renovation. S&W Model K-22 Target Masterpiece from 1950. Driskill Elk Stag Grips (have original diamond magnas numbered to the gun) S&W Model 65-5 Lady Smith Custom by Mike LaRocca of MA. S&W Model 19-4 PASP 75th Anniversary Commemorative (1986) S&W Model 647 (.17 HMR) only made for two years Yes, this is an August to remember. Enjoy. Adios, Pizza Bob
  13. Sorry, I know I qualify as an "old-timer" and I know the pictures are of Gumby and his horse Pokey. The bottom picture is from Davey & Goliath (Goliath being the dog), otherwise I must be missing something. Maybe it is because of my deprived childhood? Adios, Pizza Bob
  14. As I said, for a lot of years I was oriented toward function over form, but that doesn't necessarily preclude functioning grips that also look good. For the two guns shown, the 28-2 is desirable because of the "S" prefix, but it came to me as the gun only, and while it had diamond Magnas, they were not numbered to the gun, so it cried out for some really nice grips. The 25-14 I found at the Oaks show last year. It survived the entire show because some idiot had put K/L frame target stocks on this N-frame. That just looks horrible, like there is something wrong with the gun - which is probably why it didn't sell. Once i did some research (at home) and found out how rare it was, I called the dealer up, offered him less than he had it tagged for at the show (which was about half its value) and told him he could keep the grips. As you can see, he went for it. I've had several different grip arrangements on it, but when I found the stags, I knew they were meant for each other. As for maintaining originality - on the 25-14 it came originally with Altamont laminated Magnas which I could have purchased and installed, but I think they cheapen the gun. I have a S&W Model 544 that I bought ten years ago as a shooter (it's a .44-40). It was the gun only - these were commemoratives and came with a custom case, which this one lacked, but I didn't care. I took off the beautiful S&W smooth target presentation grips and installed a set of wooden Hogue's (function over form). With my perspective changing, within the last 3 months I have obtained the presentation case and reinstalled the correct grips. Likewise I have a PASP 75th Anniversary Commemorative with everything it came with originally - including the outer shipping carton - it will remain intact. So it depends on the gun and the circumstances. I don't buy commemoratives because they are commemoratives - usually you can buy them for the same price as the non-commemorative counterparts. The PASP gun (a 19-4) I got for what you would pay for a good shooter grade 19. In the case of the 544, there is no non-commemorative counterpart, but the total I have in the package (buying the gun and the case separately at different times) is a little more than half of what they currently bring. While I'm not buying these guns as an investment, it would be silly to ignore costs and potential for future appreciation - some day these will be going to my boys. Adios, Pizza Bob PS: @Underdog - you would have as much in the grips as you would the gun, with stags on a Wrangler.
  15. In the past I have almost always changed out the grips/stocks on my handguns. Usually done with more of an eye to function, although form was also a consideration. In my ongoing transition to collector, I've been more discriminating about what I install. I recently found a maker of Elk Stag Horn Grips that does really nice work and is reasonably priced. His name is Ken Driskill out of Colorado. I have thus far purchased two sets of his grips and plan on purchasing a third set for a recently acquired 1950 S&W K22. I have to resist the urge to put them on more guns, but that would make my collection too homogeneous - although a set for my Ruger Bisley Flat Top in .44 Spl might be appropriate. In the meantime, here are the two i already have... [/IMG] S&W Model 28-2 S-prefix serial ]/IMG] S&W Model 25-14 Number 62 of 250 Adios, Pizza Bob
  16. Reason? We don't need no stinkin' reason. or alternatively... Because we say so. Pretty much sums it up.
  17. You are making it far more complicated than it is. The buyer or the buyers FFL sends the seller a copy of their license. It can be by fax, e-mail or snail mail. That's it. Adios, Pizza Bob
  18. Thanks. Just hard to get any gun specific postings in around the recipes and food posts.
  19. My original understanding of how the Multiple Purchase Exemption (MPE) worked was that it operated entirely outside the OGAM system. In other words it made no difference when a previous or subsequent OGAM purchase was made, relative to when the MPE was used. That understanding cost me a NICS violation. I had purchased a single handgun under OGAM and then within the subsequent 30 day period exercised a MPE. Several days after the MPE, but after the 30 day clock from the previous OGAM purchase I attempted to make another OGAM purchase, thinking the 30 day clock had been satisfied and the MPE was not relevant. Such was not the case. From all that it seems that the MPE can be utilized at anytime, regardless of where you are in the 30 day window. However, utilizing the MPE resets the 30 day clock for your next OGAM purchase. I found threads on here from 2014 indicating that the exemption process changed from what my original understanding was to what is described in the previous paragraph. The change took place sometime in 2014 because it was commented on in the 4 page thread I was reading. I'm just trying to make certain the above is correct as I really don't want to accrue another NICS violation. I currently have exemption paperwork submitted for four revolvers and I have five permits. Given that I have one to spare I ordered another revolver and my intent is to first purchase the single under OGAM rules and then subsequently (within the 30 day window) use the MPE to pick-up the other four. According to my current understanding if I exercised the MPE for the four guns first, I would then have to wait the 30 days before I could get the single - correct? This state sucks. We're looking. 21. Good letter, but it sets you up for them to issue a conditional permit, i.e. you will only be able to exercise your right to carry while actually worshipping at a synagogue and direct transport to and from. I know that they issue conditional carry permits as I have a friend that is on the call list should the alarm at his place of employment be triggered. He is authorized to carry to and from his place of business when responding to an alarm. This is not anecdotal, I actually saw the permit and the stated conditions (it was probably 10 years ago, but nothing has changed in NJ in that regard). I wish you luck in your endeavor. 22. They shoot the second Sunday of the month. Hammer down at 10 AM. August match (8/11) shows on the Events Calendar. Match Director is a good guy - former participant at Somerset. Adios, Pizza Bob
  23. Not bad, for a bottom-feeder. I shot it well, just not fast. Either my eyes (probable) or the sights were a problem. Had night sights on the gun and they were tough for these old eyes to acquire quickly. All my competition guns have FO front sights. This was kind of an unintended quid-pro-quo as Stu has shot my guns a time or two. Nice gun, but I don't think I'll run out and buy one - purchased a S&W 929 instead. Adios, Pizza Bob
