OK. I'm confused. I have never seen or heard of anything like this before. What officer sent this to you - a NY or NJ LEO? Have you applied using FARS for whatever it is you are after (FPID or P2P)? While I understand that if you have lived at your current address for less than 10 years you may be asked (by NJSP or your local PD) to fill out an SP-066 - which is the NJ consent for a mental health records check - I have never seen anyone request an out of state form. And that one is a blanket form - not specifically a mental health records check. If it was your local PD that sent this to you, I'd call the NJSP FIU and ask them. Adios, Pizza Bob

They're what I grew up with. Even when I was shooting IPSC in the 80's (with a .45 ACP 1911 I might add), the only semi-autos that you would see were 1911's, a smattering of BHP's and every now and then the oddball S&W 59. Just look at the beauty of them - something that will never be achieved with "tactical tupperware". They are more challenging to shoot, but if you can master a revolver (I haven't thus far) you will shoot your semi-auto better. They teach things like concentrating on the front sight, a smooth pull of the trigger with follow-through. I just enjoy shooting them a lot more than any bottom-feeder I own. But, I am old. I never had to deal with a NJSP barracks as an issuing entity, but if I am understanding previous posts - your permits will be printed at NJSP headquarters in West Trenton and then they may wait for inter-agency mail to reach your specific barracks, What I'm saying is, it may still take a considerable amount of time before you actually have permits in hand. Be patient. From what I hear, a remedy to the above is in the works. No more paper permits - electronic ones. Once you have been approved all a dealer has to do is download your electronic permit to complete the transaction. Not sure how/if they are going to integrate NICS into that, but it is another step in the right direction. If we have to live with this draconian permitting system, they can, at the very least, make it efficient. I would guess that a "state mandated system" and "efficient" are probably oxymoronic. No revolver, regardless of PC or otherwise, will have a match grade trigger out of the box. That's part of the fun of owning a revolver. Plus, even if it was a "good" trigger, it is vastly different than anything you'll encounter on a semi-auto - even the vaunted PPQ. Adios, Pizza Bob

To expand on that a bit.... Since, in NJ, BB and pellet guns are considered firearms, one equipped with a suppressor is patently illegal. In the case of non-suppressed BB or pellet guns, the usual advice is just to go next door (Pennsylvania) and purchase one and bring it back. Since they are not considered firearms any place other than NJ, there are no regulations. Since it was purchased legally in another state it is perfectly legal for you to bring it back and domicile it in NJ. Kind of a catch-22. IANAL Adios, Pizza Bob

Cost is the main benefit of shipping through an FFL. They can send it using the USPS at a much lower rate than you'll get from UPS or FedEx. Even adding in the FFL's service charge, you are still ahead of the game. If I require a gunsmith, I like to use local people and hand deliver and pick-up. Sorry, I don't know any local smiths that are CZ oriented. I don't even know where to go for "standard 2 day air service" - do they recommend a shipper? FedEx and UPS want you to declare it a firearm and use overnight service because they want it in their system for as short a time as possible. I've bought a lot of guns off the Internet with all of them delivered to my FFL via the USPS. I haven't lost one yet - of course the service wasn't always stellar either. ...to get back out there and shoot. Sgt Toadette and I shot our first IDPA match in three months yesterday. It was at the Phillipsburg Pistol Club, a match that we used to attend regularly, until it got moved to a different day and conflicted with USPSA at Shongum. Shongum also had a match yesterday, but it was restricted in size and preference was given to club members, which is why we decided to shoot at P-burg. That is also a small match, but always has been. We had 17 or 18 people there and shot six stages, all on the outdoor range. Under normal circumstances it would be an eight stage match with four stages shot indoors and four stages shot outdoors. It was just great to knock the rust off. Sgt Toadette finished second overall and first in the Carry Optics division. Already looking forward to this coming Saturday when, hopefully, we'll be shooting an ICORE match at Lower Providence - just waiting for confirmation from the MD that it's going to happen. There were thousands of S&W copies that were made in Spain. Their proliferation here and in South America is what lead S&W to inscribe "Marcus Registrada" (trade mark) on their guns - although there is some debate about that and even if that is Spanish or Latin - in either case it has a Romance Language origin and would be understood by Spanish speaking countries. Most of those copies came out of the Eibar region of Spain. I certainly wouldn't attempt to shoot it - or if you must, tie it to a log or something and hade behind something before remotely pulling the trigger. Any proof marks? Adios, Pizza Bob
