  1. Any mountain bikers out there? Check out this video. I guess this is how they do it in Chile. It got my heart beating a little faster. http://deadspin.com/#!5774681/strap-in-for-helmetcam-video-of-this-terrifying-downhill-bike-course
  2. I haven't been shooting my AR or the XDM much recently. Really been trying to save money. So the time was right to pick up a M&P15-22 and toss some lead. I took it out in my back yard and just finished shooting my first 100 rounds of CCI 40 grain and not one misfire. I think I'm going to not clean it until I get a miss and see how far I can get. It sighted in quickly and was putting together some nice groups. I am happy with the purchase. I was thinking that it was a lot to pay for 22. But with what you get, like full quad rail and all the AR like fuctionality, I think it is worth it.
  3. I am seriously thinking of moving back there. I love Tucson but it has boomed since I left and 5 months of 100 degree temps might be hard to take anymore. But if you get up in the foot hills cool 10,000' mountains are just an hour drive. Phoenix does nothing for me. It is a big dirty city. I'm thinking Flagstaff, or maybe Prescott, 4 seasons but a fairly mild climate. Southern Colorado has me intrigued too.
  4. This kid has his head on straight. Check out him on this interview from the MSNBC ed show. Interview with Joe starts at 2:30. [/youtube}
  5. I just read that the 9 year old girl that was killed was Dallas Green's granddaughter. What a shame. Prayers to the wounded and families of the deceased. I also feel bad for the community. I use to live in Tucson and attended the school this scumbag got kicked out of. Guns are embedded in the society in AZ. I don't think there will be any backlash against guns there, but nationally the anti's will have a field day.
  6. My Dad was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was aboard the the destroyer USS Selfridge. It didn't take any hits during the attack. He had a 30 year Navy career. Here is a pic of the boat Here is a pic of my dad later in his Navy career. He died in 2001 at the age of 94. Here's to you dad!
  7. You can buy the DVD/Bluray here or on Amazon. http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/episode/restrepo-afghan-outpost-4808/Overview I would also recomend Junger's book "War" It filled in a lot of details that the film didn't cover. Also I thought the film was toned down from what was covered in the book. For example, in the the movie it showed the guys wrestling. In the book it says that they used to really beat the **** out of each other just for entertainment. The "cow incident" in the book was funny as ****. Also in the book it had a lot of deatiled decription of the Apache's and the A10's really lighing up the enemy. I was disapointed that wasn't shown in the film.
  8. Thought I would send out a heads up. Tonight at 9:00 PM on Nat Geo. It is supposed to be an excellent film. http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/episode/restrepo-afghan-outpost-4808/Overview
  9. I got a little choked up when I put up my flag this morning. Thinking of all the brave men and women still in harms way. God bless you!
  10. Maybe it was one of these guys taking it to the next level. http://www.rocketryplanet.com/content/view/2437/95/ Or else it was a military "oops". When I was in the USAF a crew chief in my squadron accidently fired 5 rounds from a A10's 30mm cannon. Luckily it was pointed out into the desert. The local public never knew about it. Something like this usually takes a perfect storm of several safety procedures being missed or bypassed by multiple people.

    WAR

I recently finished reading the book WAR by Sebastian Junger. The author was embedded with an Army platoon at the remote outpost Restrepo in the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan. He covers day to day activities for a total of 15 months. He really lets the reader know about the soldier’s feelings, motivations and vulnerabilities without making any judgments of individuals, the military or even the war itself. With Veterans Day next week I hope everyone takes time to think about our young men perched on the side of a mountains living in filthy, flea infested huts taking fire daily. My son will graduate college next month and will be commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in US Army. I pray he never has to go to this place or any place like it. The book will not win any literary awards but it is a moving depiction of what these soldiers are going through. I would highly recommend this book. I already pre-ordered the Documentary Restrepo that will be released on DVD on December 7. http://www.amazon.com/WAR-Sebastian-Junger/dp/0446556246 http://www.amazon.com/Restrepo-Artist-not-provided/dp/B0042KZJIC/ref=sr_1_cc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1288813006&sr=1-1-catcorr
  13. Have you tryed Jim Flynn? I bought my XDm 9mm with 2 pinned 15 round mags from him. It was about 4-5 months ago. His prices are always good. Give him a call he is always happy to tell you what he has in stock. BTW I love the gun!
  14. That is amazing! I once saw a guy doing this in the Hackettstown area. I was impressed.
  15. Oh...what about Summit Point. http://www.summitpoint-raceway.com/ The main track is very fun and not too far away. I like it way better than NJMP.
  16. I have run Beaver run many times on my bike. Very fun course. NJMP Thunderbolt is ok, and it is close but I don't love it. VIR North is incredible but 8 hours away. If you get a chance check out this track. It is awesome and in a beutiful part of Ontario. http://www.calabogiemotorsports.com/ 3 mile track 20 turns.
  17. It hurts. Advil and 12 year old scotch helps.
  18. I live in NW jersey and use Lehigh Valley Airport sometimes. http://www.lvia.org/ You can get almost anywhere you just have to connect for most locations. I think I have flown direct to Florida and Charlottte form there. Get about 30-45 minutes from there and you can be pretty remote. Might be an other option.
  19. Maybe I was being optimistic about the hard part being done. But my neighbor has a new by-directional splitter that I get to try out. What I like abought using the dremmel is the speed. So if nick a rock it is no big deal to take 10 minutes and sharpen it back up then get back to cutting. TJ, what kind of setup do you have for your furnace? I would like to supplement my oil furnace with wood. I was looking at one at tractor supply last year but it cost $1600. Then there would be installation costs. I thought that was a little steep to see a return on the investment in a reasonable amount of time.
  20. Cut down about 10 trees in my yard last weekend. Cut up into logs and hauled it to a spot to be split this weekend. The hard part is done. Had to sharpen the chain a couple of times. The dremmel tool with the chainsaw sharpening attatchment is great.
  21. I lost power for 31/2 days several years ago. I was unprepared and was lucky it was in the summer. Since then I have about a weeks worth of can/dry goods. I have a generator that I can run my well, furnace, hot water, fridge and a few other things. Just have to remember to keep enough gas on hand. Always need more ammo but I have enough to do some damage. I also am very isolated. I live on a few acres and only really have one neighbor that we are very good freinds with. I know I can do better but I am not at the tip of the spear like a lot of you in populated areas. I figure I should have a little more time to react. Maybe a little foolish. If you have trees make sure you have a good chainsaw on hand. Trees fall down during storms and can block your egress. Guess how I know this? If we run out of food there is a lot of game around and we can always eat our cats!
  22. Stupid law. Now everyone will make sure they take their test on a 250. I agree that a new rider should not be on a 170HP 400LBS rocket. But this will do nothing to deter that. The NJMSF course uses 125CC bikes. Will all that pass the test through them be restricted also? Our tax dollars going to waste to create more feel good legislation.............
  23. Here is the location it is planned for. 64 Park Place. The old Burlington Coat Factory right next to the Amish Market. I think they are going to renovate the existing structure, not completly demolish and build a new building. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=64+Park+Place,+New+York,+NY&sll=40.713605,-74.009989&sspn=0.00086,0.002401&gl=us&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=64+Park+Pl,+New+York,+10007&ll=40.712891,-74.011019&spn=0.003611,0.01369&z=17
  24. Thanks Autox. You called it. The hammer spring legs were under the trigger pin. 5 minute fix. I'm happy.
