  1. I am a big time flashlight geek. My father was on the job for 34+ years in a city, and when he got promoted to captain back in the mid 90s he took charge patrol again so he commanded everyone on the street, and worked the night shift. This was a big change for me because he had not worked on the streets since I was too young to remember. Back in the day the police all carried Mag-Lite which were great flashlights and very sturdy and could be used as a weapon of last resort (and trust me, I have *witnessed* it being used in that fashion). I believe right around this time my father had decided to upgrade his gear because he would be wearing a uniform, carrying "police gear" again etc. and bought a new-at-the-time, high quality rechargeable from a company called Streamlight. Well that Streamlight Stinger served him faithfully on the job many years and we still have it. It needs a new battery and a new lens/bulb setup but it's nearly 20 years old now. And because we were so impressed with Streamlight it became the family brand.- now among us we have hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of Streamlight products (again, I am a flashlight geek.. Survival & Preparedness is my hobby and I firmly believe in flashlights for not only S&P but EDC as well). I believe we both have their top-of-the-line full-size "regular-style" flashlight, the SL-20LP with Nickel Metal batteries and both AC and car chargers. These are amazing flashlights with I believe a 360 lumen, 60,000 cadela power @ 2-Hour runtime, w/ a medium and low power as well... and the Low-power runs for 50 hours which is amazing because it puts out way more light than you'd think for 50 hours.... but when run at full power it's amazingly bright and very nice for room and yard illumination. In addition to the old standby Stinger I also have a modern, PolyStinger LED which is sort of like a Glock 19/23 to the SL-20's Glock 17/22 .. great sized for holding and using in the hand while holding a firearm but not too big, yet not so small as to be relegated to backup duty only. I also have a bunch of small ones... a Streamlight KeyMate is my bed flashlight that I use probably every single night when I need to get up in the middle of the night for a bathroom break, to check on something, see what the dog is making noise about, etc. I also carry two Streamlight pen-lights every day.. I first had bought a Streamlight Stylus in green LED which is awesome and doesn't ruin your night vision... perfect for night use, night signaling (I tested it, you can pick up someone signaling you with this at over 2 miles away) and the LED lasts like 50,000 hours (One of the major selling points of the Streamlight LED series.. their LED lights will outlast you) .. but I also picked up a $20 package that simply cannot be beat the PolyStylus (Poly means Polymer , plastic rather than metal) with 4 LED modules , you can unscrew and add on a White, Red, Blue, and/or Green LED module and each one has a different candela, lumen, and run time power. Some are brighter than others, some are more room-filling or point-on intense bright, and some run for a long time vs. a shorter time. This is awesome, I carry it like a pen and keep the extra LED modules in a cell-phone case and always can change. And this has a minimum of 12 hours constant on at its worst setting, which is great! I have my eyes on a few more things... we are hoping to get eithe one or both of two different types- one possibly a small/subcompact size, maybe battery operated although I prefer the rechargable, and one super-hi-power light like the HL or HP series. They have a ton of types and if you're a flashlight geek you can shop for hours lol. I have some other brands and other types but Streamlight is by far the best I have used and my favorite and I think everyone who is into survival, preparedness, or general defense should have at least one high quality rechargeable.
  2. Congratulations that is a beautiful gun, one of my dream-list guns, I am very happy for you and very jealous. Awesome man, really, great job, makes me sad at life I don't have one. Congrats.
  3. Tuk in general I agree with you, all I would add is, this is not something just announced, this was announced like two-two and a half years back, and basically back then people said "I would not expect to see these anytimes soon..." So while I do not expect them to show up on Gunbroker next week, I would surmise whatever plans they would have to formulate to get them selling here have already been figured out, and now that the plans were laid they just need to put them in action. What that is, I have no idea, but I would think Kalashnikov / Ishmash etc wants to rock and roll, they need the money and the American people want to buy Saigas/AKs, we ate them up like chicken chowmein from 10 to 13 so , these new ones ,I would expect to sell like buttered syruped hotcakes.
  4. Bro do not even think twice about it, I am not at all waiting on you or anything- no big deal, I have nothing but time, thank you for your help. I'm not close to being ready to jump so it's not time sensitive, so thanks and don't rush at all. Again your gun is amazing. In my mind I have a slightly different idea but I would be absolutely ecstatic if I owned yours.
  5. I also thought that too. I love a pistol caliber carbine... I am very interested in Survival & Preparedness and almost all of my firearms have specific uses in my S&P plan but also each firearm in my portfolio should be able to contribute to my S&P plan in at least a specific way but hopefully multiple ways- having said that, I think a pistol caliber carbine is an invaluable tool for the "prepper" ... without trying to go into a huge dissertation as this is neither a S&P thread nor a PCC thread, you can use them for their inexpensive and readily available ammo, generally easy to shoot and easy to use w/ no recoil , so can be handled by everyone, not extremely loud nor heavy, so they make great use in the neighborhood etc. Lots more reasons. This Saiga-9 would be great... would probably last forever, work great as a Saiga AK, and by the way I forgot to mention- they are so much fun to shoot lol! And the looks, this is awesome. Throw an EOTech or Aimpoint on it and you've got yourself a real tool their. If they priced it at $500 it would be The Firearm of The Year.
  6. Many I'm sure already read The Firearm Blog so have no need of this post but others may find it very interesting: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/06/19/new-kalashnikov-concern-civilian-balanced-recoil-ak-107s-saiga-9mm-new-12-gauge/ It doesn't really get into specifics for the US market but I will go out on a limb here and say, they have to have a plan for the US because as I understand it, civilian sales of the Saiga rifles and shotguns literally carry the day for Izhmash, back from like '10-'12 it was more important to them than military sales to the Russian gov't by a large percentage. They mention new models of the AK-107 series rifles, which are balanced recoil new AK rifles. I would be interested in the 7.62x39mm version, as I do want a top-shelf 7.62x39mm AK and planned on buying on with full features (Non-neutered) upon moving here to FL but there is a lot on that particular "plan to buy list". Also they mention a 9mm Saiga-9 which I would love, and it looks amazing, based off of a Submachinegun version of the AK, so sort of like an AK combined with a Soviet-style MP5/Skorpion lol... awesome. Also a new version of the Saiga-12 with a factory-built muzzle brake installed, not something I need but others will eat this up. Back in like 2011 this got mentioned and I was very interested back then, but never really came up again so I personally wondered if Russia gave up because they got tired of trying to figure out ways to export these to the US and or Europe. But, maybe now, they have a plan?
  7. Vlad I have been wondering for some time, and your amazing rig is a good example so I can hope to pose the question- is there any issues, risks or something I need to consider about shortening the barrel and then permanently attaching the brake? On my (Still unconverted) S-12 I have a SGM Tactical "SABER BOSS" muzzle device... I think it measures out at 2" but that's not confirmed. Anyway- I had always wanted to do it, but I had thought I would need to send my rig out to a professional S-12 service. These guys charge big big bucks and it's all "ala carte" for each service. You want a ABC-123 stock installed, say $50 bucks. but DEF-456 stock, which might be $65 bucks, they charge you more (like it costs more to install a more costly stock? Lol). So it was always an expensive extra add-on service I figured I'd skip... but now, I think I'd like to consider it especially if I am getting the local gunsmith to do this for me (Who could prob do this easily). Just want to make sure there is nothing I am not thinking about, say it ruins the gas-timing or it alters the way the gun functions/etc. Because even if it's just down to say like 16.1" from 19", I still think it'd make nice, noticeable difference... I just don't want to be too hasty. Thanks again brother.
  8. Ahh nevermind noone cares- That scope looks great BTW, I have read many good things.
  9. See this is one of those things, I just don't get ... I mean I get but I have no absolutely none interest in. I have a nice gun collection, a couple-a-few things and try my best. I have a better one than some people and a non-factor to other serious collectors. Hey, gotta be happy with yourself etc. I am much more into , dare I say, "Tactical" and "Combat" style firearms. I do appreciate class and certainly history so I love many guns that don't fit into combat firearm category, but for example, I'd rather have an M1 Garand as a historical, collectible war-piece firearm than a dedicated gaming-gun because I don't really shoot any games nor do I care to collect them. *NOW* - I know that some of the over/under shotguns for gaming are fine fine firearms and a few thousand is just scratching the surface. HOWEVER, they don't do anything for me. And if I were to add to my collection, this would not cross my mind. * Now* if I was extremely, independently wealthy and could buy anything I wanted at most any time, I would surely add a few O/Us to the collection in the interest of having some of everything and probably to kill time with my friends doing rich-people things like shooting expensive O/U shotguns at clay targets. Otherwise, I am much happier with my 870 Tactical than a fancy O/U .
  10. Everyone seems to love them .... they physically seem to be faultless, very nice little shooters and you know it's good quality as it's Beretta, plus 9mm which is plentiful, cheap, and plenty of variety My problem is the looks. And listen, I WANTED BADLY to convince myself to buy one (Because I love pistol-caliber carbines for many reasons, I will not go into a doctoral dissertation but I think they're great and perfect for several uses.) ... but I just cant do the looks. The fact they're not real modular either (Like if you hate the look of a bone-stock "M4" style el-cheapo AR-15 or the government plain-jane M16-style rifle, you can always modify them into the baddest shooters this side of the Delaware River with a few, a bunch , or a ton of mods/accessories/add-ons. This platform doesn't really change much. If the CX-4 looked like the Sig MPX *or* was more based on an AR- which would allow some modular modifications/options for upgrading, and it was still ~$500 it would be the best selling long-gun this side of the 10/22 or 15-22 - awesome gun but I don't dig the Starship Troopers looks. Plus its way more expensive than it used to be.
  11. I should preface this comment by stating I do not want to buy one- but- the softest shooting shotgun I've ever shot was a late 70s or early 80s-era Remington 1100. Like shooting a .22LR... I can't compare it to any other shotgun because it just wasn't even close. It was my best friends' stepfathers gun, who was a retired police captain I believe and had bought it back when it came out and it was a newest-neatest type deal. This was a standard 1100 I believe, nice wooden forend and stock, never failed to cycle a single target load, and we put about 250+ rounds through it as we tried to hit hand-tossed clays lol. I am more into combat shotguns, but if I needed a gaming-gun, it would be an 1100 (or perhaps an 11-87) but that 1100 is still a soft shooter boy.
  12. I am still enjoying the newness and glow of the new Sig I got early May- thanks to the deal posted on this very forum... I got a Sig P226 MK25 for $774.99 shipped. ( I did pay $14 for insurance because they only cover up to $100... and it was a $1000 gun. Which was good too because they accidentially shipped it 2-Day Air rather than Overnight as required, so there of course is an extra night of possible ganking.) Anyway- Amazing gun. I'll always be a Glock guy but the Sig is perhaps a bit more refined and sexy-smooth. Congrats to you too.
  13. Alpo that was absolutely hysterical. "I'm bored.... and... it looks like a good bit of fun!" best character ever. (Dr. King not the missuere candy fool )
  14. I got my Gen 3 G23 the first week of Jan 2010 and two weekx later I had ordered a LWD 40-9 conversion barrel. I ordered from Lone Wolf Dist and couldn't have been happier, I got my Trijicons from them, the 40-9 bbl, and a few other things I cant remember. The bbl has been basically perfect, you need to use 9mm mags but its no big problem. Apparently you can have poor results with WWB and other similar 115gr fmj ammo of low power or cheap quality etc. I might have had a few minor failures the first box or two of ammo but otherwise perfect. Best decision I made for my G23. If I was buying a new * .40 * bbl I might buy a match bbl like a Bar-Sto or Storm Lake but for conversion bbl or threaded bbl or even extended/ported for fun, LWD is great and reasonable.
  15. I am sorry I must have skipped right past the beside Glock part, I do see it now and admit I was wrong, I guess it was the "momentum" feature of my trackpad which keeps going when you start to slide down a page. As far as fanboi, you can shake your head all you like, am I supposed to be embarrassed or something? It's not like it's the only thing I own, I just think that it's a great firearm and if you say to someone "I want a polymer, striker fired, 9mm pistol below $700" ** AND YOU OF COURSE MISS THE PART THEY MENTION BESIDES A GLOCK, which I admit I didn't see and am therefore out of boundary for this exercise **, Glock is the logical and probably easily-most-probable answer. Sorry you don't feel that way .
  16. If you said polymer framed and striker fired under $700 I mean, how can you NOT go with the Glock! It's like The Rose Bowl bro, The GrandDaddy of Them All !!! In that I would highly recommend either the 17 or 19- The Glock 17 is the originator, none greater, finished right there... .The full size, "high capacity" (read: 17 rounds) 9mm combat pistol made of space-age polymer and built to last last last in the world of space the final frontier and combat. It is The One That Started Glock lol. However, equally popular if not perhaps a bit moreso? is the Glock 19, which is officially classified as "compact" but perhaps "midsized" is more of an accurate description, as a 19 or 23 (the .40 equivalent to a 19 which I also own) fit pretty much "full sized" for my hands. But they are not the "fullest size" that is the 17/22 etc. If you ever plan to conceal the gun for carrying obviously the 19 would be the way to go, as it is one of the most popular CCW weapons there is... holds 15 rounds of 9mm in a nice and good sized gun, not too big not too little. However, the G17 is the Essence of Glock and is a symbol of power and purity lol. Polymer Power baby! Glock Perfection baby.

    Browning 1911 .45

so to go into more depth. when John Moses Browning left Colt and went to work for FN/H, Colt still owned the patents to the 1911, which he designed but didn't own the work... so due to Colt holding the patents, he had to design an entirely new gun that operated and looked different enough to 'pass muster' legally... but had the spirit of the 1911, which was the Hi-Power... which was a 9mm firearm with twice the capacity of a 1911 , thus the "Hi-Power" designation. BTW, old school Belgian Hi-Powers are some of the finest firearms you could ever hope to hold, shoot, or own. I would *LOVE* a classic Belgian made Hi Power.

    Browning 1911 .45

Are you perhaps thinking of the Browning Hi-Power, which was the firearm John Browning made for Fabrique Nationale after leaving Colt?
  19. Just wanted to throw this out there... I believe someone else mentioned it but, for refreshing sake, a .22lr pistol is not a bad idea at all. There are many different hi-quality full size models of other pistols like .22lr 1911s, S&W M&P 22, SIG, etc. In fact SIG 1911 22s are on sale for $275 hard to beat especially when you factor in .05/rd shooting. I have wanted me a Walther PPK/S 22 for some time now, been keeping my eye out. Then you have all the traditional Rugers and similar target 22s ( not holding my interest but very popular) ... I was debating the purchase of my recent SIG MK25 and was also considering a G27 for CCW/EDC ( Now that im in FL I hope to carry every day and will need a dedicated Carry gun) @ ~$500 + a SIG 1911 22 @ $275 ... basically the exact same as the MK25 sale price. Despite this being perhaps the smarter/more practical path, I really wanted a full size combat pistol. But I still need me a .22. Just do whatever makes you feel the best, always the best choice
  20. Now that I've moved to FL, a paradise of pistol purchasing power, (that was sweet, right? :-] ) I realized I can't buy all of the guns I want because of , oh, you know, money. For a moving and celebratory present, I saved a bit and was looking at things a bit below $1000. I decided I would choose between the Sig P226 MK25 and my 1911 of choice, which happened to become a Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded Stainless. I loved the Para Black Ops but that was a lot more money and reviews were hit-or-miss big time... I REALLY want a TRP but I can't afford it ... and I realized I would probably regret purchasing something OTHER than the TRP... so I went with a smarter buy for me and the Sig. I really wanted a full-size, metal, 9mm combat pistol after years and years of Glock. (my family is all Glock basically, I have had my own G23 w/ 40-9 bbl for practice for years.. the Glock is so good is boring.) Or so I thought. I love the Sig, absolutely love it. Everything and more it has been described as. YET, now I realize how perfect my G23 fits in my hand, how perfect it points, how easy it is to draw and hold etc. I really have a greater appreciation for my Glock now than I did two weeks past. I agree, a 1911 is a definite candidate because it's so classic. I would not hesitate if I were you. But everyone should have a full-size 9mm combat pistol so I say go for a SIG baby
  21. I was very very lucky to get it for the 774.99 price ...id been debating this and the SA 1911 Loaded Stainless, which was around $800 best price available, but this was just too good of a deal and the gents @ Firearms For Sale were a CLASS ACT and I mean that. I love to dish on poor customer service and bash stores/people who suck at service and life. These guys were awesome. Highly highly recommend.
  22. Just a small update- Got back from my first visit to the most-local range I could find... and fired off 150 problem-free absolutely awesome rounds of 9mm FMJs from my new MK25. A few observations... 1- Obviously many know this but... it feels absolutely great in the hands and functions perfectly. I fired a 100 rd value pack of WWB and a 50 rd box of standard Federal 9mm 115gr FMJs ... out of the 3 included MK25 magazines. About half the time I chambered and topped off, sometimes not, and I did a few reload and malfunction type drills with 2 or 3 rounds in each mag. I did not have one single problem and the gun was great. And while I am by no means a pistol sniper, I shot much better with this than I usually do with my Glock 23. 2- Of course many also know this but... Double-Action shooting is tough lol! It does require quite a bit trigger pull concentration and sometimes the BOOOOOOM would come as a complete surprise. The decocker worked perfectly so I would not hesitate to carry this in the future but, I would of course prefer cocking the hammer before shooting if and when I could. 3- The sights were great... I also noticed at night how amazingly bright the SIGLITE night sights are, much more than my Trijicons on my G23, and they were nice sights for daytime-indoors as well. The range I shot at was a very nice and modern place. it was much like Ready-Aim-Fire in Bristol, PA except 10x nicer and more modern. You could just enter your target distance on the keypad and the target rolls out to where it needs to be... Plus they have a very expensive air filtration system, nice insides, it was just amazing. The bathrooms were nicer than most any public place I had been... I would very much consider joining this place as a member... (but also like RAF, they are a pistol-caliber range only, I believe .44 Mag is highest.) Anyway just wanted to update this... Amazing gun, very happy so far. Now I will feel a little better chambering the gun with a mag full of Federal HSTs for Home Defense use. Although admittedly, 150 rounds is not exactly "breaking it in"..
  23. ^ Brother it took my 33 years and a ton of misfortune in my life before I realized I really had absolutely no reason to stay in New Jersey. Now the flip-side of that coin is, maybe I would be happier IN New Jersey with a bunch of things that would be making me want to be there... Well maybe... what if this what if that what if a frog had wings, he wouldnt bump his ass. So when I finally left I just jumped, said Forget it I'm out! And as of the last 45 or so days, haven't looked back. And I will say I can remember reading posts on this very forum from people who had just moved, back in like 2010, and I am thinking to myself, would you just STFU and GTFOutta here, this is the njgunforum.com, go post on the (Insert State) place! But I honestly think it helps, when people see the things they can have in the rest of the United States it might just make them realize how bad NJ treats us, and when enough people finally get out and it hits them where it really counts, their wallet and revenues, the people in charge might start realizing it's not their personal political fiefdoms. I digress I digress, thank you for the thread again and when you get down here first round of ammo's on me brother.
  24. Here you go, best I could do. Well correction, I don't want to say it's the best I could do but rather it's what I did do. I tried to get as many angles and distances close/medium/far away but these were the only two I thought came out any degree of decent, I'm not sure if this helps you but I hope they do.
  25. I love that Beavertail up there.... I have my eyes on a P229 Elite Stainless in .40 as a CCW gun , which has the beautiful stainless steel, beautiful rich red wood grips, and the beavertail... they make the same thing in 226 but i'd prob go 229 for CCW duty.
