  1. Basically it starts out as a Sig P226 with a full size "Milspec" picatinny rail (A holster company told me that the standard "Sig P226R" has a slightly smaller rail than a MK25 which has a "milspec rail" don't shoot the messenger, just what I was told), then it has the Sig-popular "Nitron" finish on the slide (which is supposed to be an upgraded corrosion-resistant finish and they are using it on a lot of other models - bUt not all) . It has a phosphating coat on all internal parts as part of the extreme saltwater corrosion resistance (it had to meet this for the SEALs and SpecWarCom), it has standard SIGLITE night sights, and standard 3 15-round mags w/ the special Phosphating coat .. then finished on the outside with a golden Navy anchor and military UID scannable sticker on the outside (Purely cosmetic stuff there IMHO). SO It has some upgrades, some stuff I would want anyway, and it was an incredible price so it was a real deal for a P226, which is if nothing else a world-reknown and famous combat/service pistol.
  2. Thanks BHunted, I am familiar with cocking the hammer lol but thank you for the suggestion good sir This is a very nice pistol... just a great feel in the hands and points very instinctively... I can see with SEALs would choose this as it feels great in the hands, I am sure Delta Force's customized highend gunsmithed 1911s feel great too but for a production pistol of moderate means, I am loving this.
  3. Alright Alright... got my new Sig baby! OH YEAH BABY! This is one sweet gun. To those who may not know, this is a Sig Sauer 9mm DA/SA pistol with a 15+1 capacity (and they have 18 round extended-yet-fairly-flush'd magazines as well as 20 and 30 round extended sticks) that is the official issue sidearm of the US Naval Special Warfare Command (SEALs and Surface Warfare Combatant Craft-Crewman). It's really awesome... Haven't had much time with it yet but I took it home, immediately broke it down and gave it a good cleaning (It was dirty..but arrived with visible oil coating it.. but I had seen some unboxing videos that featured new MK25s COATED and quite literally dripping oil...) and some lubing and am in the process of familiarizing and such. The gun is a DA/SA, Double-Action/Single Action, with decocker. No manual external safety. So basically you are going to chamber a round, use the decocker to lower the hammer down, then carry the gun in Double Action model (which requires a lot of heavy pull on the trigger to fire) and after the first shot in double-action mode, the gun will transition to Single-Action which will be a much smoother , lighter trigger pull. The idea is , if it's chambered., it is always ready to fire , but is still safe to carry when chambered (with a proper holster). It also has several internal safeties to make it safe during dropping/banging around/slapping the hammer down. It is much MUCH more solid and beefy/meaty than a Glock, my Glock 23 seems downright light and nimble compared to it.. but that was sort of the idea. Hopefully I can get to shoot it soon..where I live now, sort of in the sticks, there is no range nearby but the law says I can shoot on my property with proper backstop... I have about 30 acres across the county from where i'm living now so I might go see if I can set up a bit of a range. If not I have to drive an hour, no big deal. And for the "Pics Or It Didn't Happen" crowd,
  4. Well I got my MK-25 today... and I have to say I am very happy and very excited. It is awesome... feels so solid but also smooth. I am a Glock guy and while I love my Glocks and wouldn't give them up and will carry a Glock often, and they may be the most *reliable* gun and therefore an ideal combat pistol, the Sig Sauer smoothness and refinement really shines through. I am making a thread on the Handgun forum for more info and pics but I wanted to make a final post here saying both it came, and I am psyched, and that I am very thankful to all who helped and recommended it and especially to Mikka for making this thread, I may not have even ever saw the deal on this and therefore not bought it if not for him... THANKS!
  5. I think it's great work, it's not my personal purchase type of thing but it's great great work. Sort of looks like a desert snake skin, kind of like a desert snake that is camo'ing itself by having its colors match its surroundings.
  6. Congratulations Bryan looks like an awesome get you got gotted, I would be extremely happy to have an HK I am sure you will enjoy it.
  7. Old Dog when did you do your app? I just moved to FL myself, and I mailed my app on Monday morning. I was told not to expect a day before 90 days for it, providing it isnt returned for some reason. (I am quite certain I did it right and shouldn't have a problem, but, I am the type who gets screwed all the time and always has a problem. Mayhe my ink won't be right or picture too ugly etc). Anywsy did your 13 day permit happen recently?
  8. My Walmart in town here in FL has like 30 boxes of Federal basic 9mm for $14.77 ... I wasn't overwhelmed by this price, am I wrong here, should I be wanting it?
  9. I used to have a great relationship with some guys at my local DSG, across the river in PA @ Oxford Valley Mall. So I have bought many firearms and plenty of ammo. The thing is, their prices of ammo usually suck unless on sale. HOWEVER, during late December '12 to about March or April '13, I was straight up raiding them for shotgun shells. Usually about 3 cases at a time of Federal Value Pack / etc. target loads, generally 8 shot or 7 1/2, ... $5.99 a 25-rd-box . So it was basically $60 a case of 10 boxes/250 rds... They would let me take 3 cases at a time, when they had enough me and my father would both take 3. Often we were getting the Red, White, & Blue rounds boxes, then a lot of the Pink breast cancer awareness shells, then just regular. I probably shot 5 cases of this back then (in my M930SPX, new-at-the-time 870 Tactical/Magpul/Police, and especially the brand-new-then- Saiga 12. The Saiga ate these up like chicken chow mein). After they ran dry of Federal they gave me the same price for Remington Gun Club loads... But DSG has a ton of turnover in personnel and soon the newer people got stingy and wouldn't do anything nice, and before I moved all I was finding there was like Winchester cases for more money. And *never* any .22LR there. But when they have sales the prices are usually good and their longgun prices are almost the best you can find often.
  10. I love Zastava ... and love my original PAP and now that I'm in FL I'm hunting for a hi-power AK. But for $729, i will get an Arsenal.
  11. Well I ordered two holsters for the Sig P226 MK-25 I ordered... one IWB leather holster from Galco (I have had two Galco holsters for my Glock and both were extremely good for low price) and I ordered a Blackhawk Serpa 'concealment' holster... This is pretty cool. It's a hard-plastic-like paddle holster that is designed for concealment but OWB carry. Now I am going to just come out and admit it: I probably will never be able to pull off carrying in this fashion. I am a 5'8" dude, 140lbs. Not much size to me. So it's hard to even come up with a good OWB concealment plan. Plus, I am living in Florida. While I understand it does in fact get cold in the winter, the winters are shorter and milder and a ways off from now. Another major item of consideration for me is, Florida is a no-open carry state, and furthermore is extremely picky about "concealment". I do remember in the past few years reading occassional stories on both gun blogs/gun news sites and actual news sites how people have had police called on them, and charged, or simply picked out in public, for printing or improperly concealing ... I still remember reading a cop's quote in an article saying "Concealed is concealed" and I remember both a shirt riding up that exposed a gun, AND a printing-gun-in-shirt situation, where people got citations So why get this holster? Well a few reasons. I just bought a DA/SA gun with no manual safety, so it needs to be in a holster even when not being carried. If it's going to be a HD gun I may keep it in different places in the house/bedroom but it will need to stay in the holster-this is perfect for it. PLUS, while I cannot open carry in public, I can on my land and I have 30 acres we're going to build on eventually. So while I prowl my property with my pup I can use this holster. And last, I can probably give this a go in the winter under a few layers, like an over-covering shirt and jacket. As you can probably tell... I am excited. I moved down over a month ago but I had a lot of other things to worry about so far... yesterday I not only mailed my completed application for CCW but I ordered a new Sig, so hopefully good gun times are around the corner.
  12. IMHO more about the preferences since neither are actually made by their namesakes. Sig has a "modern/standard" black 1911 22, a Flat Dark Earth one and a OD Green one. They look sharp, like full-size carry 1911s people use. I would love to buy one @ 275 because often times, colored guns or finishes on guns are much more expensive so a $275 Sig OD Green 1911 22 is a steal IMHO. But I will say, I have actually handled a Colt, and it was pretty awesome to be honest. The Colt models are a little different. The Colt Gov't model is old-school, the old GI type basic sights, regular hammer, black and basic. They have a Gold Cup version that has the same look as the expensive Colt Gold Cup. They even have a Rail Gun model w/ the 1911 rail. (Now I also have seen ads for a Rail Gun FDE ... that is extremely interesting for me. My father is not much of a gun guy but he does like what he likes and when he likes something that is it... he *really* likes the Colt Marine Pistol M45A1 ... and actually told a dealer in Jersey awhile back he would buy one if the guy got it... the guy was all "well it's $2000+ etc." and my father was like, Call me when you get it and I'll give you the credit card. Well the guy never called back and of course he's not exactly going into stores asking about it anymore...... but I want to see if I can swing the Rail Gun FDE for Fathers Day because if nothing else, it will kinda LOOK like the M45A1). if they were the same price I would by a Colt because Colt is Colt and king of the 1911 and the Great American Gun etc. But they're not the same price and a $275 Sig OD Green is just tooooo sweet to pass up IMHO. This coming from a guy who ordered my Sig P226 MK-25 yesterday, if I didn't I might have just ordered them there Sig 22s lol)
  13. now just to make clear- I am not saying this is the Best of the Best or it's a "great deal" or anything. And it's not exactly like it's the absolute one I'd buy. I was close to saying "I'm buying a MR556A1" and for the brief week or two I wanted one and would have spent the money, they were not available anywhere. To be honest I REALLY LOVE the HK416 w/ the 10.4" bbl. I think it looks amazing and is probably so awesomely handy etc. Obviously was not an option in NJ at all, and it was like $4000 for that upper even IF you were able to SBR it. At the price of $4000 an upper, we're talking a nearly $5000 AR here, plus optic, it's just not really realistic for a "normal person" anymore. Independently wealthy, sure. ( I have an old friend who's 33 like me, and while he doesn't own guns, he would spend $5000 for this in a heartbeat, then drop $2500 for an ACOG/RMR ECOS no doubt.) And as you mentioned, the LWRC is a fine fine platform and company and I'd be equally happy with a LWRC rig as the REC-7. I think that in my humblest opinion, Barrett is a little bit more of a name wow-factor than LWRC but LWRC might produce more highly-sought ARs, I'd probably think that's a fair statement. Anyway I didn't want to start any back-and-forth because I don't have one and I'm not getting one but I'd sure be happy with one.
  14. Well I guess you don't agree... but its a top quality, decked out piston AR that is American made by one of if not the biggest and best name of American rifles, not too many ppl can say they have a Barrett. Hk mr556a1 would be this rifles type of competition... I would also think it backs up its price tag but as I dont own one I can't state that from personal experience
  15. I held a Colt govt 1911 .22lr about 3 weeks ago at my new LGS ...was amazing how great it felt. Price tag was $550... dude said he would give me a "smokin" super deal at $485... I said id sleep on it. Then googled them up and they were like 350. Next day I got a grabagun email, the Sig black 1911 22 was 305, the OD Green was 299.. now its down to 275... smoking smokin super deal. if I didnt order a P226 today id buy one definitely. !..perfect PERFECT for critter control on my property and for tons of fun bustin caps.
  16. I wanted to share this offer I saw: http://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/products2.cfm/ID/139994 Sig P227 FDE - It is basically like a MK-25 or M11-A1 Desert ... it is CeraKote'd in Flat Dark Earth and on a big sale, $789.95 ... that is over $400 off retail price. PLUS while it is not labeled a special edition like the MK-25-D or M11-A1-D it is in fact equipped like them, has the full-size picatinny rail, SIGLITE Night Sights, and looks like it comes with two 10-round magazines... This is a sweet .45ACP combat pistol/service pistol. I want a 1911 first if I am to get into a .45ACP platform ... but this is a sweet sweet deal
  17. Back in fall 2012 I came into a decent bit of cash. I had been planning on making a little AR collection and I had one AR (A Bushmaster, which gets a lot of flak and made fun of because the "cool kids" online don't have Bushmasters... but mine was completely customized and an awesome rifle) and was going to get two more, this was on my short list (They have made NJ compliant REC-7's for some time). Awesome manufacturer, awesome rifle, just awesome.
  18. WELL I ORDERED IT WOOHOO! I had/have been in contact with FirearmsForSale since about the day this was posted, because to be honest I have always wanted one of these... I wanted the Navy version for some time and when the MK-25 was announced I loved it at first sight. To be honest I did have a lot of interest in the Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded Stainless. But several things happened. I *really* wanted (want) a TRP, I actually prefer the Black Armory-Kote TRP but also love the Stainless... and I just can't afford it and can't wait long enough to save. so I sort of went to the Stainless version as next best thing but I admit I would probably love it then hate it for not being what I really wanted. And also, I will admit, people on forums all steered me to the Sig... on another two forums most people seemed to say this was the way to go and while a few ppl loved and recc'od their Loadeds most people seemed to thing this was just too good of a gun to pass up. Well hopefully it is going to Ship tomorrow and we'll go from there... as Bart Scott was famous for saying, "Can't Wait!!"
  19. I moved to Florida last month, I have been here for just over a full month. I sent my CCW application in the mail today actually, and ordered a Sig P226 MK25. I will probably carry my Glock 23 more than this Sig but once in a while I'll carry the Sig, and will hopefully in the 90 days they have taking for the permit, I will get a Glock 27 for primary carry duties. People who don't want to move, I did not either for a long time but there is no real reason to stay in NJ, it's so terrible and so oppressive and obviously most expensive. Moving to FL has been a literal life-altering thing and I just feel better every day.
  20. Just for those who are considering this or have questions etc I bought my old man one for Christmas '12. He has never smiled more shooting than with this. The gun has functioned 1001% with 00 Buck, hundreds of birdshots, everything it eats up like chicken chow mein and never even hiccups, and not only is it fun its a SHTF game changer if you're into that as we are. I have probably an extra 1000 in mine and will get it converted professionally now that im in FL. ITS AMAZING, WORTH EVERY DIME
  21. If by Socom you mean an M1A Socom-16 then I would very much like to agree with you and compliment you on your good taste lol! But while I might have a decent-ish stash of .22LR, I definitely wanted to get those two cases. If NOTHING ELSE I can profit a bit (not gouge but, is there any among us who would say I couldn't turn a buck or two on these in the future?) But to be more honest, as I said, I have 4 .22LRs now , I haven't shot much AT ALL in 2013 and once so far in '14 because of ammo. I can no longer buy ammo on the way to the range nor replace it if I shoot from my stash so it's tough to justify fun shooting. So I would prefer to have the ammo but I agree, at some point, Shoot or get off the pot.
  22. "Most people will never be in a car accident... so for people to take safety considerations into a car purchase or even a mfgr making a car is really reaching... " I cannot say clearly enough the concept of flawed logic that most will never be in a firefight in relation to training, gear, or anything like that. Two Alaska State Troopers were killed last night by some 20's kid. Every single day they walk into work they are walking into work knowing it could be the day a bad guy kills them. --- and I know the standard response is, "Anyone can die any day at any time for any reason by any method.." I understand this. HOWEVER, most people are not cops, universally hated by a significant portion of the population and genuinely hoped to be killed by a portion of the population not to be underestimated. it is absolutely right most will not be in a firefight; a decent amount will never even need to draw their firearm in the line . That however doesn't mean a thing, each and every one is as likely as the next to stumble upon the next North Hollywood Shootout or Miami bank robbery etc. Some rookie a few months on the job stumbled upon Eric Rudolph scrounging in a dumpster. And believe you me, the cops that *ARE* in shootouts DO NOT go to work that day saying, "You know, THIS is the day I am going to be in a fight for my life... I should pack an extra mag or make sure my vest is on... because Today is that Day.." I mean no disrespect but the idea that because they probably won't get into a firefight should be taken into any at all context in firearms/equipment/etc decision making is absolutely wrong.
  23. Trenton raised that argument / general principle when they first switched away from the .38 Special round and service revolvers and eventually adopted the Glock in 9mm. I want to say this was like 88, probably had been going on for some time but I can remember distinctly my father bringing home samples from various mfgrs in 88 ( I remember that year because the Mets lost to the Dodgers and orel hersheiser lol). Trenton strongly felt same guns/same ammo/same mags made overall policing sense, especially in an area like Mercer County where you can quite literally be in Pennington boro and make it to Trenton in 15 minutes, Hopewell Twp thru Ewing into trenton in 10 mins... and drive around the whole county in a half hour. Small place where "community policing" is an understatement and the likelihood someone could respond to a call for help and arrive on scene during an emergency firefight is high due to proximity being so close, so mags and ammo being same and shared would be very smart. They were basically told, if we have no county police academy much less a county police force, why would any of us care what weapons another town uses? Most towns apparently felt that way. Ironically Trenton was one of the entire states first to commit to switching to Glock, and apparently more than a few agencies snickered, as Beretta had been picked by the .mil, Sig Sauer and HK were seen as the "primo" police choice and Glock was plastic or porcelain or something like that, no good for police use!!! A few years later everyone was all about the Glock with Trenton having success.
  24. Trenton carries Glock 23 .40 S&W, has carried since early 90s, before that they carried the Glock 19 in 9mm for a few years, and before that .38 Sp revolvers for a long time. I believe the S&W 36
