    New Handgun Question

I just realized this is striker fired, so you don't have a hammer to cock, but the principle is the same. You need to use the decocker (after chambering a round) to "decock the striker" for safe carry, then when you pull the trigger the first time, (With the harder trigger pull), the striker will be "cocked" for each shot after, and the trigger will be easy to squeeze. If you were to chamber the gun, shoot it say 5 times, then want to reholster it, you would need to /want to use that decocker to take the pressure off the internal striker, like lowering an external hammer. sorry for my initial igorance of the fact it has no exposed hammer.

    New Handgun Question

I mean you no disrespect, but when you say "traditional safety" that is a very misleading term. As noted above, you are most likely referring to an "external safety" which too many people confuse for an on-off switch. I *believe* this particular Walther is a Double Action/Single Action pistol- what that means is, it's designed to be carried with a round in the chamber but the hammer down. The first time you pull the trigger, it is "Double Action", it will cock the hammer back as you pull the trigger, then fire, and then for each subsequent shot in that magazine, it will be ""single Action", the hammer will already be cocked and the trigger pull will be markedly lighter. The initial pull in "Double Action" will be very much harder, because your finger is squeezing the trigger to first cock the hammer, Then complete the firing sequence. The pistol I am about to buy is like this. There is no external safety on the pistol like you're thinking, no on-off switch. The pistol's safe with the hammer down, and there is a decocker to lower the hammer when you chamber a round but want to carry it safely. Two things to note- you certainly must always be vigilant because IT WILL FIRE if you pull the trigger or something does, when in Double Action/hammer down mode - it just requires a marked amount of force. Two- you never want to carry it with the hammer cocked- that is totally unsafe in this style of pistol. hope this helps.
  3. I have $600 on backorder from MidwayUSA. I am also starting to get a little impatient. First week of January we ordered them. I have 3 .22s plus my old man got a 597 for Christmas so we have the need. I found two different decent deals on MidwayUSA who were "overdue" in delivery time, so I ordered a $199 case of Remington Thunderbolts 5000 (I know, I know, I would have nothing to ever do with ANY Remington rimfire ammo let alone Thunderbolts but , desperate times call for desperate measures and its a decent deal) and a $399 case of Federal Premium Gold Medal Target HV 5000 rds .... First they were overdue, then it was February sometime, then sometime in early March it went to "Unknown"-"No backorder allowed" and the invoices just sit there. Some people say they have been waiting since early to mid 2013 while people on another forum post of like 20-30 backorders they've got filled in the last 1-2 years by MidwayUSA, so who knows I guess. As I said in the other thread, it sucks because while I want the ammo, $600 over your head hanging sucks- I could buy another guy if I was never going to get that ammo nor spend the money but I can't do BOTH, but if the $600 wouldn't be charged until November anyway, I would be fine.
  4. Thanks everyone by the way, I appreciate not only the support but the help and everything, I hope I can post pics soon lol.
  5. Funny because not only this forum but another forum the posters are encouraging me , by enlarge, to go for the Sig as well. What I really want 1911 wise is a TRP (and actually I think I'd go for the Armory-kote Black TRP over the Stainless but would take a stainless any day of the week) but I will never save up that much lol. And when my CCW permit comes in (hopefully) by sometime in August if the 90 days is right, I'd like to buy a G27 Gen 4 FDE for primary CCW/EDC role. But I can't spend all my money all the time on guns, even in Florida, and the Sig is attractive because despite it being a "full size duty pistol" it's not as quite "full sized" as a 1911. I am probably going to go for the Sig and hope to get a 1911 in a year or two, when we move into the house we haven't started building yet on my 30 acres. The MK25 can be my moving to FL present, a TRP my moving-into-the-house-and-home present ... but I do have a deep-seated feeling I will wish I bought that Loaded Stainless in a week or two. BUT whatever, I Do agree with everyone it's a once-in-a-lifetime price.
  6. ^ I am by no means attempting to explain something to you that you already know, but it basically *is* the P226 Navy. The P226 Navy was a replica of the P226 used by Naval Special Warefare Command (the SEALs and Special Warface Combatant-craft Crewmen) , and I believe Sig Sauer included a donation from each sale to a Naval Special Warfare family charity type deal (For families of Special Warfare sailors who fell in the line of duty or disabled etc.) I think in 2011 sometime Sig Sauer decided to issue (or if you buy their advertising, "got permission to declassify and offer to the public" lol) the P226 MK25 , which *IS* the actual P226 variant as delivered to NSWC. As most I wanted to know exactly what the SEALs were getting over a standard P226, and I believe it is as follows: "special" Nitron coated slide and phosphate-coated internal parts (To comply with the salt-water bath test required by NSWC test specs) Night sights standard ("Siglite" which I have not used but I figured saves me $150 over Trijicons and installation by gunsmith) Golden-colored Navy anchor on slide and UID label marker on opposite side of slide (Which are supposed to make it official lol) and they are delivered w/ the 3 15-round mags which is a good deal. I have long wanted this and for a long time assumed it would be my first purchase in a free state. Now I am having a tough time going back and forth between this and a SA 1911 Loaded Stainless. I have always wanted a .45, a 1911, a Springfield Armory specifically ,etc. and I can't go buying new guns each month etc. BUT This Sig would make a lot more sense for me because I already shoot .40 and 9mm, so I have some, plus its a lot cheaper, it's higher capacity, and while neither are carry guns the P226 would be a lot easier for CCW which i hope to do sometime this summer (my class is on Sunday so I can transmit the application next week..then they say 90 days).
  7. Yeah I hear ya, and I love MidwayUSA, I would buy from ONLY them if I could (Which you could its just sometimes you get better prices elsewhere ,but GENERALLY, MidwayUSA is *AT LEAST* fair market value, not necessarily the best in the world but in fact they did use to be, all of 2010 and into 2011 they used to have amazing values and sales, but they totally stopped with the uptick of 2012 (First it was because Obama was clearly going to be re-elected, then he Was in fact re-elected, then Newtown....) they first immediately canceled all their promo codes (used to be a MidwayUSA standard operating procedure to get 10% off easy) then they stopped having amazing deals, then they made it so their offer codes don't work on sale prices (It was NOT like that just a few short years ago). Again I like them very much but, I know I am not rich or anything and some people are big ballers on here but, $600 ain't chump change, if you put in a $600 backorder, at least a status update would be nice.
  8. I have two backorders from them, one for $200 one for $400, placed the first week of January. At the time the expected date was "overdue", then it was like first week of February, and now it's unknown, no backorders allowed. You'd think they'd either tell you or something, $600 is a lot of .22LR, and if they're NOT going to , I'd like to spend that money elsewhere, but I CAN'T buy say a gun or whatever, then suddenly have $600 hit my card unexpectedly.
  9. As far as legit, yup I also wondered about that and did a ton of Google searching, most reviews were absolutely satisfied and extremely happy with their purchase from them. And as far as deal, I totally agree... beliw cost. In fact I asked specifically about that because I did wonder if it was a scam.,. And they told me it was because they bought 250 of them. ( quite an investment, 250*775=193,750 ... so they bought nearly 200k worth of these lol. ) in fact when I called a local gun shop here in my small town, I asked aboug transfers and he mentioned he'd try to beat a price for me, then subtly called BS because it was below cost. I tried to tell him to check it out for himself but I think he thinks I was wronv or lying. I guess we will find out next week )

    First Sig

Yeah the difference in price between the Desert and the standard is considerable, the MK25 sale right now is $774.15 and a desert is easily over a grand... msrp is like $1100 almost and most places are selling them close to $1000. I may buy a M11-A1 Desert in August/September as my primary CCW. I *most likely* will get a Glock 27, hopefully a G27 Gen 4, FDE NS, for EDC to go with my G23 but if I have some dough I may opt for the M11-A1 Desert. Anyway congrats

    First Sig

Congratulations, I believe I am ordering a MK25 next week, I hope you love yours and shoot it in health. I keep going back & forth between a Sig P226 MK25 9mm and a Springfield Armory 1911 Loaded Stainless, but in my particular case the "smarter" choice is the Sig, the perhaps more deep down wanting but not as smart choice is the 1911.
  12. Yeah I hear you and that is absolutely right and sound advice, but the slippery slope is indeed there and I just don't want to tempt myself. Basically, firearms are my biggest hobby (Not my biggest *expense* or *time-spending activity*, those would be my four-legged-son blue heeler) and also I fancy myself a bit of a collector, a meager collector sure but still have to start somewhere. I have or did decide some time ago I would not mess with credit on firearms for a reason that , while I don't mean to bash my self control, it's just that it's too easy (*** AND ESPECIALLY IN FLORIDA now** ) to take advantage of Can't Say No offers. NOW it's worse, the litany of emails I receive daily about incredible deals [often on handguns] are now able to be purchased in a jiffy, in NJ you have to go through the whole PPP process, now it's just, OH MY, GrabAGun is selling $299 Sig 1911 .22LRs, I want one! But the next day I see the MK-25 offer, which is incredilbe, and I have to have that! And let me add on the Springfield because it's zero-percent lol, so as you can see it easily adds up. Some people are much much better than I (My father is a perfect example, one of the best credit users/money managers I have ever known, but I am not him). so I stick to cash, spendable cash, for all things booooom-related. But I thank you, you are very right and others may very well use this very well to their advantage.
  13. So as soon as I got here to Florida I contacted them and asked if I could put 50% down and pay the balance in 30 days or less and the guy said , No. He emailed me saying how great for me it was to leave NJ, how much I will love freedom, but they don't do lawaway and refuse deposits. BUT Not to fear, they have 250+ and shouldn't sell that much in a month. BUT because I seemed like a nice guy, if I saw they were below 50 units left, he would put one away for me for another month but only when under 50 and only for one more month. Next week will hopefully be when I order, and if you have been paying attention to some of my other posts you will know I am going back and forth between this MK25 9mm and a Springfield Loaded 1911... and when I checked inventory last night, despite having over 150 units left , they raised the price to 790+ ! I think that is weak weak weak...
  14. Let me say this, I used one of these in like, what, December 2008? And I was *not at all impressed* with the info I got for $35 bucks. I can't remember the exact details but it was very basic, the type of stuff most people could Google and find but I could not so I used one of these. (To explain, I had met a girl and could not find *any information about her anywhere,* I mean, did not exist. which lit up a flag, and the more I searched the more I could not find even a trace of her existence, so I tried one of those things to figure out if I was getting set up for scams or just being bamboozled as to her name/etc. or what.) I think it gave me some basic background info, it told me the name on the cellphone account (which was a guy, she later told me [and I had in fact assumed] it was a father, when, it was , oh, you know, her husband, and the father of her two children... and she was like 34...when I was like 27 and she was supposed to be like ... 22 ... lol) *OH And best part, it expired in 30 days! I went back once and it was gone. There is a record of my purchase in the account, but I can't access it. Too bad, so sad, they don't care. Fine print says 30 days. Someone might contradict me but I strongly strongly don't think this would show up on a background check other than some sort of governmental type/ SSBI type deal.
  15. A++++ 100x well said my brother!
  16. LOL I just got a $450 pair of Oakley eyeglasses and (after also getting contact lenses for the first time since college, 12+ years ago) I got a smoking deal on some Oakley sunglasses.. got tortoise Crankcase's for $59.99 instead of $150+ ... not exactly Flak Jackets but not $300 either. I love Oakley ... I had one of the first ever Oakley prescription sunglasses back in the day, when I passed my lifeguarding course freshman year of high school I got them as a gift , they were like $575 BACK IN the early 90s. Oakley makes amazing stuff, looks like this stuff is awesome too , great to see a MOLON LABE on Oakley gear.
  17. So I am in this precise position right now. As I have detailed at some length, I just moved to FL. I am in the process of applying for my CCW (you need to do some stuff, including a class, and the earliest I could get into a class is next Sunday, and I believe i am all good [other than the final fee=paying] after the class and can send it week following this coming up.). Also if I haven't admitted, it's very tough financially moving [as many probably know]. I thought I would buy myself a moving present gun right away ...I wanted to get either a Sig P226 MK25 or a 1911, probably a Springfield Loaded. I had assumed I would just buy a CCW gun (Most likely a Glock 27 to go with the G23 I have) when my permit comes in, hopefully 90 days they are saying. (So probably sometime in August). But that may or may not be possible who knows what money will be like then. So I am starting to go back and forth like maybe I should be thinking different. There was a nice 15% off all Sig Sauers @ Euro Optic, and i was looking at the Sig M11-A1 Desert, which was equal in price to the great deal on Mk25's some other place is having (~~ $775) ..BUT I really want a full size gun. (* I really want the 1911, am leaning more to the P226 because of 9mm ammo costs and because the Sig is all ready to go, out of the box, perfect, whereas the 1911 even a Loaded may need some babying and upgrading, right away and or down the road). I keep telling myself, I can always carry my Glock 23, because while i might be a little 'bored' with it, many people do carry a G23 every day and others would be very excited and happy to... and I Figure I can always alternate, G23 a few days , Sig/1911 once in a while. But I will say, when I go out on my property with my Dog or around the house, sometimes i wish I had a G27 or baby gun to just tuck away for a bit, so I can see the reason people go for real CCW-designed subcompacts. It's tough. Plus you figure ammo costs and availability, overall costs of purchasing plus ownership, comfort, and even a little "cool/wow' factor, I wind up spinning my head in circles lol.
  18. Look I have no horse in this race nor dog in the fight so to speak, but I feel strongly about subjects like these... *YOU HAVE TO* file charges and push until you can't push anymore. It looks like there is a pattern here, and you cannot hope to be safe from situations like these until people are punished sufficiently for it to have a deterrent effect. I agree with above, how a foreclosure or bills due or even severely lusting over a new SCAR w/ ACOG & RMR etc. causes people to do financial bamboozling aka crimes... but whatever, I am sorry but my money is not there for helping you with yours, etc. And the people who say "It won't even be recognizes cause it's a small amount" etc. are right but of course... nobody will do anything if no one comes forward.. and then if enough people do something will be done. I stayed out of this but read the whole thread an hour ago, I could not be help but notice the patterns between it and the classic Nigerian email scam. Repeated minor problrems, delays, "but I sent the email out!" but then no email, then the email contains nothing, then a kid is sick, then a post office screwed up, then it's out of my hands it's into the processing companies hands, etc. Whatever, the guy could be the nicest guy in the world, I have no idea, But I do know it's not going to be the last time if no one does anything about it and therefore no consequences are suffered nor repercussions realized. And to those all affected, I am very sorry, this could have been me had I had the spare money lying around.
  19. I shot the .357 and .44 Mag at "The Gun Store" in Las Vegas ... I will say, beautiful weapon, lots of fun. But I just can't see spending allllll that money on it unless I was independently wealthy. if and when I get a real hi-power gun, I'd probably get a Glock in 10mm. *** I KNOW *** 10mm is not a 44 Mag nor .50 AE. but 10mm is at least equivalent to .357 Mag, .. and say you go for a Glock 20. It lets you hold 15 rounds of 10mm (in the most reliable handgun around, plus spare magazines of course) and you can convert it to a few wildcat hunter rounds OR drop in a .40 S&W barrel... so you can have a Glock 22 full-time and a 10mm hi-cap hi-power handgun whenever you need it. ** I know, I know, it's not a Desert Eagle lol. I know.
  20. I remember this going down. This was a HUGE deal. Apparently IO Inc had called several of their models "AK-47 xxx or " AK-47ABC" etc. Christie's attorney general (who was recently appointed at the time or something?) decided it violated the law and was all fired up about it , and there as huge panic. I can confirm the CMO part because I had bough two of the original Zastava PAP 7.62x39mms that summer, early and late. I wound up selling one of them back to them right after buying the second, because of a huge emergency vet bill I needed money for ASAP. But I had kept the second. They messed up when calling me because it was not in fact the PAP but I guess the guy who called either got the info wrong or had messed up reading paperwork etc. When I returned the phone call voicemail a few hours later they told me it wasn't involving me *YET* but who knows what was going to happen in the next day or few days. I did some phone calling as did my father who is a retired police commander and he called some friends etc. The info we got confirmed it was the naming of the models WHICH WERE STAMPED on the rifles, so the model name/number was on the receivers like 'IO AK-47ABC123" and they decided it violated the ban on AK47s. We never saw any storm troopers but more than one source said that they were in fact threatening that... It could have been a whopper that gained snowball size as it went downhill but yeah, people were definitely saying that's what the word was. EDIT- when I say "The Ban on AK-47s" I mean, AK-47 is banned by name in our state AWB language so while things like the Zastava PAP for example (PAP is the three letters in Serbian that start the words Semi Automatic Rifle) has no reference to AKs, it's a 7.62x39mm sporting rifle [based on the Kalashnikov action). The IOs were supposedly violating the state AWB due to AK-47s being banned by name.
  21. ^ that is REAAAAAAALY where the money is, brewed coffee for sale is one of the most profitable things you could hope to sell. And I used to , for years and years, start every day with 24 oz. of 'gas station/mini mart' coffee for the drive to work and it went from like $1.29 in 2002/2003ish to 1.59, 1.79, up to like $2.50 now at places like Starbucks. Now with the POSSIBLE EXCEPTION although ludicrous but the argument is made, POSSIBLY Starbucks and their fancy schmancy, microbrewed, local varietal, fair trade, organic and holistically renewably sourced super coffee and the prices going up, the cost of brewing a cup of coffee did not go up so much over the years. Places simply get more and more money and I remember once at a bar account I had at a vineyard I worked at , a manager explaining how much money he'd make if everyone would order coffee. Something like $1.75 a cup for something he figured cost somewhere between a nickel and a dime to make. \ Coffee baby, coffee. That's where the money is.
  22. Oh I absolutely understand the process, I spent 10+ years in the booze biz of NJ and had buying responsibility for not one but two different $13 million/year sales stores and two or three different $5 million + stores during my times. NJ has one of if not the highest alcohol sales rates in the country and in NJ booze is BIG BUSINESS, and it's regimented and deal levels etc. I am very familiar with how this type of thing works, and I would never fault anyone for making a living nor simply not being able to either access a price or going to/below a certain price level as a matter of principle. I would never, I know they have to eat too. HOWEVER, it's 2014, and since my freshman year of college in 1999 *AT LEAST*, you can use the internet do Google up (Yahoo up back then) how much things cost and how much other people are selling/charging for things in 10 seconds flat. I just don't like the idea of someone either thinking I'm lying or not realizing me (and everyone else hopefully) are smart enough to check prices on things , etc. But no sir I would never fault someone SIMPLY on price , I completely understand.
  23. It's funny you mention this... I was just having a situation about this yesterday. I am planning on buying the Sig P226 MK25 that someone so graciously provided on the Hot Deals forum here, which is like $774.99 or something like that. I called a local gunshop down here in FL where I live now, (the nicest in my small town area, although there are guns and booze EVERYWHERE down here.... Beers and wines in every store you walk in, stores that sell guns and signs that say GUNS on every street lol) and I asked about the transfer fee... I also explained I have never ordered a gun online before, most all my purchases were across a counter and not even special ordered. The gent said, it's easy, $25 dollar fee, which I thought is great, and I mentioned, you don't have any problems with me ordering something you sell right? He said, well of course I'd like to try to meet or beat the price but no, whatever you like. I told him about the Sig, he looks it up on his computer and quotes me something like $950-$975. I explained I can get it for the $774.99, he looks it up and basically calls me a liar. "Thats a substantial bit less than I pay for it so.... I can't see how this is possible..." I explained that I called the company myself, wanted to know what the deal was, because something too good to be true usually is etc, and they simply told me they bought 250 of them... and again, basically called a liar... "250 of them... at 775 ...that's nearly... " and as hes doing his figuring I just said it out loud, "It's almost 200K, $193 and change actually... but yeah, that's what they said..." And of course he says ... "Listen, I have no problem taking a transfer for this. If you think you can buy one for $774.99 then please go ahead and just call me when you are ready for the FFL info. And I'll try my best to help you out.... if this works out for you...." Now he was quite cordial and i met the guy a few weeks back, very nice guy, but he was clearly not buying it and thinking I was a bamboozler. HOWEVER, this is the same gent who had a Colt .22LR on the shelf for $550 and when I asked how much because I was gonna impulse buy it (it felt great, just like a 1911 but in .22LR) he says $485... smoking deal I'll make you, $485!!!! And i find them online for like $350. So I know he works on a huge markup. You have to make a living, I understand, but don't think I'm a moron, know what I mean?
