  1. Is there a company that doesn't require you to itemize what you're covering? My buddy has been looking to insure without itemizing with an approx value of $20k.
  2. Well in that case, if you need someone to motivate you to shoot it, I'm just a PM away and can provide my own ammo! Hahaha
  3. Yeah. Told a buddy too so he really stocked up. I read some so-so reviews of them real quick before I ordered them but I'm glad to hear you've had a good experience.
  4. I was pissed they canceled my order but saw that it was still working yesterday. Good 9mm for $8 a box shipped, wooooo! And $40 a case for shotshells!
  5. Woahhh! I just got giddy seeing that. I'm jealous. She's a real beaut! Have you shot her yet and if so, how was it? How'd it shoot compared to your other large frames?
  6. Thanks for all the info, Bob! I will keep the upgraded sights in mind while I decide. That SSR sure is a looker! I know some guys are traditionalists when it comes to revolvers but that slant-cut barrel with its slabsides sure is sexy! In my late-night gun time...you know, the hours between 10-1am where you just can't stop looking at gun stuff...I found another model by S&W which is the 627. It's made in a few different models but needless to say, it has everything I want. I was specifically looking at the 627-5 Performance - 8 round cyclinder, very similar overall look to the SSR, AND it's offered in a 5" barrel. Just like anything it takes practice to shoot a new gun well but I was surprised how much better I shot the Taurus 608 6" versus the 4" revolvers, obviously due to the sight radius. The 5" barrel IMO is right in the middle of being lengthy like the 6" but just a bit more sight length than the 4". The one reason I was leaning towards the a regular 686 is it's made in 5" but I really liked the look of the performance series so I think the 627 may be it. With the race to not have my permits expire, I still have another week or so to make up my mind. At least I've narrowed it down substantially which is usually the hardest part. Here they are side by side: 608 4" 627 5" Performance 686 4" SSR
  7. Let him enjoy whatever he wants on his guns. You're always so pushy, papito!
  8. There are a couple things I want to address. Bob and Alec, thanks for the info guys. I do realize what you're saying and I am deciding based on feel/comfort, how it shoots, weight, barrel length. Honestly, I may be looking at pro/performance models but it's pretty much based solely on looks versus anything else. That's actually how why I started looking at them. The SSR and other models with the undercut barrel and the "extras" is appealing to me. Bob, hope all is well man haven't seen you in a while. I was able to meet up with a bunch of forum members (thanks very much for the invite!) and they were VERY generous in letting me handle and shoot plenty of wheel guns. I won't name them for privacy but if they want to post they can. Shot a slew of different brands and models, everything from a Taurus 608 6" to a GP100 4" and a bunch of S&W's. I got a nice taste of variety and I had a huge smile on my face the whole time! I know we all hear Taurus get shit on all the time but they no doubt spend time on their revolvers. The 608 shot excellent and the 6" barrel was long but manageable. The GP100's trigger was smoooooth but it's also because Member #1 bought it before I was born! The S&W 66 was surprisingly a comfortable shot despite it's smaller size. Shooting .357 full power loads out of that was like hold on for the ride! Member #2 had all his s&W's out and the SSR was everything I thought it would be and more. What a beautiful looking revolver. I forget revolvers are also made in 9mm/45/.22 so it was fun taking those for a ride too. I really like the feel of shooting a 9mm and 45, just a light push of felt recoil. Ammo consolidation with semi-auto pistols is a nice plus also. I still haven't made up my mind yet but the Taurus and SSR we're probably my favorite. The Taurus 6" was really nice and my 8 shits of .357 showed my liking for it (see picture). The SSR wasn't stout at all as I thought it would be with the 4" barrel, it soaked up recoil well. I've heard through the years many ppl say revolvers take some finesse to shoot, and shoot well. I definitely can agree with that. The felt recoil and where the recoil is felt in your hands is completely different than a semi-auto. I feel like finding the right grip that works for you takes some time also and I'll be working on that in the future as well. My last point is the awesome community shooters have. We are all regular people that enjoy a right, hobby, competition, hunt, etc, but it's amazing how shooting brings people so close. I started this thread like a week ago and I already had numerous people saying hey I've got this or that you can try, and only a week later here I was at the range with a dozen in front of me. Im very appreciative during times like these. It's just really cool how generous and kind most fellow shooters are, plain and simple. Anyway, enough of the chit chat. Here is the better part and what we love, pictures! Taurus 608 and one big hole :-) Smith SSR Misc: 66 with some neat shroud grips
  9. No problems mixing and matching lowers. That's the nice thing about AR's. You may have a slight gap between upper and lower of different manufacturers but most of the time you won't. You're the guy who posted the other thread about moving to NJ right? You could always keep your existing AR and modify it to be compliant with nj laws instead of buying an additional upper. I mean if you want to buy another upper go for it of course. Either way, you'll have to modify them. A couple other things. You can order uppers and ship them to youraelf as they are not a firearm and just a part. So don't think you need to rush to buy it before moving here. If it's a 16" barre, it just needs to be pinned or welded. If it's under 16" like a 14.5" barrel and a 1.5" brake to meet 16" barrel length, then it needs to be pinned and welded.
  10. Exactly. Whether you shoot 1k rds every range trip or 100rds, you should always be stashing it when prices are good.
  11. Casual shooters will say 500rds of each caliber. Frequent shooters will say a few thousand rounds. Others will say buy a case a month forever and stack it and forget about it. What I'm saying is if you're shooting a decent amount, having a thousand extra rounds is nothing. When you hear on some stupid news network that some guy had EIGHT-HUNDRED ROUNDS at his house, people who don't shoot think that will supply all of the US army. But in reality if you shoot competition or range frequently, 800rds is two or three days of shooting, not even for some ppl. It's cheap now, stack it.
  12. Damn, I haven't gone to EFGA frequently in a while. I can't believe how much shit they have going on, especially weekends. And a work party like every other weekend too. The open days look like: - Saturday May 12 (rimfire pistol range closed but we'll use center-fire) - Saturday May 19 (3 gun comp but only rifle and action range will be closed) May 13 mother's day, may 20 work day ranges closed until completion, may 26 weekend is memorial day. I'm down for either day. Anyone else?
  13. Academy canceled some orders already due to over-selling so don't be surprised if you get an email. Sucks.
  14. The POS comment was sarcasm responding to a past poster. I know it's hard to sense that online sometimes. I'm very happy with the Sub2000 rifles as are my couple friends with them. I think they have their limitations but they are unique and a ton of fun.
  15. Wow thanks a lot everyone! That's what I love about our community, everyone is always willing to help one another out. Revolver shootout!? Maybe at EFGA? That sounds like a good idea to me. I know not everyone is close to Easton but maybe we can work something out? I have a guest pass and I'm sure you guys do too so we could definitely bring in everyone. Seriously, who'd be down for one on a Saturday or Sunday morning in the next few weeks?
  16. Haven't seen a deal like that in a while. Thanks a lot for the heads up!
  17. I'll try and water it down a bit. It's overwhelming and sometimes all the laws are confusing. 99% chance your barrel is thread and your brake is removeable on your AR. There are numerous gunshop/smiths in NJ to pin that brake on and shave the bayonet lug if you have one. It'll prob cost between $40-80. Get a fixed AR stock and 15rd mags and you're all set. Pump shotgun laws are pretty lenient. Pistol grips are ok, adjustable stock is ok, bayonet lugs ok. Really the only thing you need to pay attention to is barrel length with is the same as federal law (minimum 18" barrel). Semi auto shotguns are more restrictive but not terrible. I'd buy anything you're looking at before moving here. The FID process can take a long time and you'll just be waiting and waiting. Apply for your FId and handgun permits at your local police station or possible state police. It'll take anywhere between 2 weeks to 6 months to pass or get denied. Fid is used to buy all guns, handgun permits are for handguns specifically. Long guns can be bought with just your FID. All background checks and state and local laws must be followed through transactions. Also, Google "NJ state police AWB" and spend some time to read the documents about our laws. There are some grey areas but A LOT of the laws are stated in the documents.
  18. So I shot a revolver maybe 10 years ago and I barely remember it. I think it was a Taurus .357 with a short barrel. It was fun but the short barrel was a bit much. Since then, I have been more interested in semi-auto's but have recently gotten a fancy for looking into one. I'm exclusively looking at the Ruger GP100 and multiple offerings from S&W like the 686, 686ssr, 627, 627pc with somewhere between a 4-6" barrel. Honestly I'm leaning towards the Smith's. Does anyone own any of these or even better multiple? I would love to try them out before dropping some coin on one. I will be ordering some factory .38 and .357 ammo soon so I will gladly provide my own ammo for both of us to shoot. In terms of a range, TTC and Somerset Cty range if you're a member would be great as they're in my area but I'd be willing to travel a bit outside of central NJ if need be. P.S. - I'm not as active on here as I used to be with life so busy lately but for any newer members, no, I'm not a lingerie-clad babe looking for any hanky panky!
  19. My buddy just hit 10k rounds through his gen1 Sub2000 last weekend. Not bad for a POS. Some people have tried cashing out of their recalled ones which is great as there are good deals to be had now. He snagged one this week for $200 some idiot was cutting loose cause they were scared about the recall. I was very jealous to say the least.
  20. I think the "dress well" at a funeral/wake is long gone for a lot of people. It's just society taking another turn down hill. I usually don't wear ties but I will still wear a nice shirt and dress pants with nice dress shoes. I think a very big part of it is where it is and what the community is like also. Lots of family in upstate NY and boonies PA and it's common to see jeans and work boots at a wedding or a t-shirt and shorts at a wake.
  21. When the frustration overcomes the enjoyment, let me know. I'll be glad to take it off your hands!
  22. ADD? You def opened a can of worms that wasn't worth opening. Side note, you will not have any problems shooting your legally obtained guns at the range or transporting. Your new FID and DL need to match if you're buying guns (firearms PURCHASE ID) but you can shoot while you deal with this BS. I'd wait it out and save the $375. That's almost 2 cases of 9mm.
  23. You're probably better off investing in a Dremel and smoothing/polishing some internals than buying that kit. Then you can use the Dremel for any other projects in the future. They are excellent tools.
  24. My thoughts exactly. I have no interest in his company and the services or parts they make so I couldn't care less. Yeah, some of the chicks may be hot but I'd prefer to watch a good looking woman like Lena Miculek or Nanaka smoke a comp than some idiot like Leaspeed or another gunbunny lower my IQ. Bunnies like that have a guy that throws them into it for likes on Instagram. Those guys are all cuck's. There are people out there that stupid. I know it's hard to believe haha. This is a prime example. The Hugh Hefner of shooting is lucky he cut ties with her immediately, whether he gave a shit about her or not. But whether or not he did, I feel like many gun guys would forget about it soon enough especially when there are tits involved.
  25. Visiting my wife's family out of state over the weekend and usually we are busy spending time with them but every few trips we take a day to get out and see new sights, check out breweries/wineries which we love, new towns etc. There are so many breweries in their area we've been trying to cross a lot of the our list. Anyway, I saw this sign displayed in one of the breweries so I thought I'd snap a super cool hipster Instagram photo of my flight. Yes, her dad was packing (Kimber 1911 .45) and I'm sure many other patrons were. I wanted to grab it and place it in the picture but thought it wasn't the best idea haha. It feels good knowing people are enjoying and taking advantage of their 2A rights. Here's the medicine bottle of Brown Cow I got. Their Stout mixed with an IPA so kind of like a black and tan. Absolutely delicious. It's sitting on a red cedar charcuterie board I just made my wife a couple weeks ago. The heart behind it I made her as well out of a maple burl.
