  1. I thought USA actually had a production plant in the early 1900's. I was under the impression WWI sparked the onset of mass manufacturing of the mosins, i guess it wasnt for another 20+ years. Good info!
  2. I was looking around before i purchased it and found one second hand on ebay, i got it for 380 shipped. It was brand new actually never mounted, And the condition supported this, no marks what so ever. Buying Eotech is very easy, if it's not a laser, its not an Eotech. The other manufactures can be hard to spot a fake unless you really know what ur buying since they all use LEDs. This was actually purchased after i tried buying an XPS3 which i found on ebay for 400, i though wow what a great deal, but the guy was forced to refund my money before he even shipped it due to well it being fake, he ripped off like 5 people ahead of me with some aimpoints, which all got refunds as well. It was listed under Ebay buyer protection, i guess this guy had no idea how to rip someone off, lucky me i guess. Still wound up getting a good deal. I'm still not sure if the XPS3 was a fake since i never got my hands on it, he claimed he picked up 10 of them when a local shop was liquidating. I dont have NV or plan on utilizing NV any time soon so the XPS3 would have been over kill anyway. It's basically an extra 100 bucks for a very low light setting.
  3. The cost of manufacture vs the cost of retail are two completely different things. Remember the whole spark of the rifle was because russia was seriously under armed. They needed a rifle that could be had quick, cheap, and in large numbers. If they charged that kinda money for one during those times, i dont think anyone could afford it. I'm not sure if soldiers were issued one or had to buy one, but that could have been a factor as well on price.
  4. I was always interested in which variants were rare. any source info on this? I found a site that describe the relative differences between production models, but nothing about which is better or more collectible. I would love to get my hands on a great one for cheap, doesnt have to be the best, but always looking for something that stands out.
  5. When you use it, focus on your target, not the reticule. I just purchased the XPS2 and i couldnt figure out why it was so damn blurry, i took it outside and focused on a tree and it became crystal clear. Also run it on the lowest brightness as to where you can just see the reticule, it will keep the reticule sharp no matter what the ambient light is. If your running it in the dark and the reticule is bright, it will bleed(just the nature of light acting as particles), having it set on the lowest possible setting will make the bleeding effect become unnoticeable.
  6. I would get one of those thread caps welded on, or a muzzle break. You have the threads might as well either use them, or keep them intact just in case. Paterson gunsmithing will do what ever needs to be done.
  7. Probably not. There are tons of them, and they were cheap to make, and really hold little value. When your talking about collectors pieces, it depends on many factors. I'm sure there are rare Mosins out there that arent cheap. Maybe in 40 years we'll see an AK market like this. It comes down to how rare they are really, how accessible it is to buy one. Problem is, nowadays(edited) we melt down everything that we don't use. You won't find surplus like you used to, making things rare and price increases. I actually wonder why they didnt melt them all down to begin with, probably cheaper to just sell them off. Russia is known for stock piling old firearms, i don't know of any one else who does this. They probably did it thinking they would have to arm a 3rd world country and it just never happened with the mosins. Once the AK came out it was game over for the mosin.
  8. I was thinking the same thing too. And at any rate, if guns(handguns) are making it from AZ to NYC, many gun laws are already being broke, i dont see how adding anymore laws would fix that issue.
  9. If it didn't happen in NJ it may have been an even lesser sentence.
  10. I've been running the 64bit dual core for years now, while there not the fastest out there, there some of the most reliable i have found. I just built a comp for my friend with the new quadcore they released, thats one sweet chip. I find AMD to be way less finicky then Intel, and better priced for what you get.
  11. No, other then both being solid state, there is very little in common. SSD is a place to store things, SDRAM is a place to run things. They are both designed to do two completely different tasks. SSD's may use the same technology as SDRAM in terms of memory, but function is completely different. I think most SSD's are Flash anyway, so in those terms they dont even use the same technology. In a couple years time, SSD's will drop in price. If you want to utilize the perks of SSD's u could buy a small one and load your OS onto it, and programs. And then use a HD for storage. You only need about 150g's for the OS and typical programs. And then a 1TG HD for storage. I would stick with Seagate or western digital for HD's, ive been using both for years with no issues.
  12. RAM is the physical memory, it's used to run your programs. It is basically a built in buffer. Reads the program off your HD and loads it to your RAM for real time computing. The more RAM you have the more you can load with out it lagging.
  13. I only buy AMD!! I thought i was the only one left!
  14. My town requires you to license your dog every year, if you miss the deadline they hit you with a fine. No offense to those who may disagree, but i like many others deliver to peoples houses, and i like many others have encountered many dogs. Personally, i have never been bitten, but then again they were all very nice dogs. My point is, if you have a dog, no matter the breed, and you know there is a possibility of it bitting someone, then by all means if it bites some one, you should get the **** sued out of you, especially if the person bit has to go to the hospital. The fact the dog was unlicensed shows the disregard the owners have/had in the first place. Pits get a lot of bad rep becuase of the owner, i have met dozens of friendly lovely pitbulls, and there one of my favorite breeds. I say, if the dog has to be put down, the owner should be put down aswell.
  15. This guy must have horrible eye sight to need not one, but TWO! 50" monitors. WOW! the rest is totally understandable! ha!
  16. Do not fill out form D) you are not required by law to give such information, and it is illegal by law for them to ask for it. You can state that when u drop the rest off. The only forms required a) application - FID + permits + references b)mental health form c)finger printing form anything more or less is against the law.
  17. If he has a brain, knows the law, and can present himself then age shouldn't matter much. No prosecutor in his right mind would allow this to get to court, if it did there would be a **** storm to follow, including questioning the competence of the entire CH PD. All he really needs to do is bring a copy of the statute with him when he see's the prosecutor, and that should be the end of it. If not he can opt to change the court date so he can hire a lawyer. There are a ton of ways to go about this with out hiring a lawyer off the bat, it would be my last resort. Honestly, best option is to pretend to be on there side, tell them your not interested in fighting them, but rather working to fix a misinterpretation of the law. In all honesty, they probably went back to the station looked up the law and... , so the charges may very well already be on there way to being dropped.
  18. I'm with vlad on this one, i would try and do most of it myself in this type of situation. However, i wouldn't just show up on the day of court to try and explain myself. I would contact the SP, and the Cherry Hill Municipality Chief, possibly arrange an appointment and see what can be done about the charges, possibly contact the prosecutor too. If i was feeling shaky based on the responses from those three, then i would hire a lawyer. It comes down to who your dealing with, if there willing to accept they were wrong drop the charges and everyones happy no need to spend the money on a lawyer, if there gonna play stupid, lawyer up and file counter claims for court and lawyer fees. If i weren't going to hire a lawyer, it would be under one condition only and that would be if i was told on the day of court the charges would be dropped. In all honestly i've paid lawyers to do much less, but that is becuase i knew i had no shot in hell of getting it done myself. Another thing he could do is contact the media, im sure cherry ridge wouldnt like the exposure for being numb nuts.
  19. Can we please let this thread bleed out into the forums abyss...
  20. I'd rather they restrict the oem mags then aftermarket, i love my PMAGS! But then again how about they don't do it all as it will make absolutely no difference.
  21. Yeah only in NJ will an FFL require the shippers FFL. One of the local shops i went to asked for it and the guy i was buying from said to find another FFL HAHA! Most don't ask and it's basically useless on the receiving end. Also make sure of the FFL fees before having it sent. Some places have a list of FFL's and if you pick from the list they will just send it so make sure they know its comming.
  22. I believe it is state wide now that Sagem Morpho is used for fingerprinting, I think the PD's were required to switch by late last year, but up until that point it was up to the PD whether or not they switched to digital, but were ultimately forced.
