  1. I graduated HS in 2008 and woodshop was certainly not an option. That room didn't exist. Wish it did, because my "woodworking" expertise goes about as far as being able to hammer some nails into a 2x4...
  2. This saves me from having to type a lengthy response. Pretty much on point.
  3. I manage day to day operations for our family-owned commercial epoxy flooring business. If you've been in a public school bathroom, or if your firehouse has what looks like epoxy paint and colored stripes, chances are you're walking all over us.
  4. Leaving for work @ 5 AM and driving home around 2:30 PM solves my traffic problem. Of course, I only commute 10 miles each way, but it's nice to know that I won't run into any issues. From time to time when I have to visit jobsites in NYC, or even in Hudson County, if I'm not at the bridge/tunnel before 6:30, I don't even bother, and put it off til lunchtime.
  5. Had about 3 inches in West Orange when I got up for the first round of shoveling around 6:30. It actually was sleeting most of the time I was out there. Now it's switched back to dumping snow, and the flakes are as big as I've ever seen. Probably gotten a couple more inches in the past 45 minutes or so.
  6. Dave Ramsey once said on his radio show, "Imagine if you had to pay your taxes as you walked out the door each morning. There'd be a dad-gum revolution." Had never thought of it that way, but chances are he's absolutely right. Lol
  7. I definitely see what you're saying, and agree to an extent, but I wonder how many people actually treat their refund as a savings vehicle. Personally, before I actually knew what a tax refund was (my own money being paid back to me), i actually treated it as bonus money and would spend it on a big ticket item that I had been wanting. I'm 27 now and did this until I was 25. I'm not proud of how ignorant I was, but I'm willing to bet there are tons more out there who do what I did and throw their own money away thinking it's basically a gift.
  8. Turns out Uncle Sam is robbing you less now than they were before! Lol As others have said, the total amount zeroes out every year. Either the govt takes too much out of every paycheck and pays it back in the form of a tax refund, or they let you keep too much money and you end up owing them come tax time. Either way, it balances out. Whichever way you prefer having it go down is personal preference, though I don't know why you would be ok with the govt holding on to a considerable chunk of YOUR money all year long. If you get a big refund every year, you can change your withholding at work so that you're pocketing more money with every check. If your refund this year is $200, they actually pretty much nailed it. Go figure.
  9. As far as I'm concerned, this is being overblown on both sides. To anyone who thinks this will help speed up the game, no it won't. To anyone who says that you're ruining the possibility of something exciting happening during the intentional walk, how many times in the past century has anything eventful happened during an intentional walk? 5? 10? Not enough to be a consideration, and not enough to say you're changing the game by doing this. Talk to me when they put in a pitch clock and eliminate commercials, the second of which will never happen. I do wish that they would enforce the newer rule that requires batters to stay in the box between pitches. That helps a bit.
  10. I don't actually buy guns very often, so I don't use the price request tool that much. In fact I used it last week for the first time in a couple years. Was just wondering how you all handle responding to the vendors who take the time to price your gun and send you a response. I had a small handful respond to my latest request. When you get a response and you pretty much know that you won't be purchasing from that vendor, do you respond directly? Do any of you be perfectly blunt and tell them that their price is high? Just curious how you guys handle your correspondence with them. Obviously I don't wanna leave any vendor hanging that took the time to respond, but for all I know, some vendors might answer dozens of these a day and they'd rather not waste their time reading a message that tells them that I won't be giving them my business. Curious as to your thoughts, particularly from vendors. Thanks!

    Land

Yes, renting is certainly cheaper than owning in the short term, and I CANNOT STAND when people say "renting is throwing money away," because that is an asinine position to take. But if you can actually afford the costs of your mortgage + taxes + maintenance + etc., and you stay in the same place and pay it off in a timely manner, it certainly does pay to own in the long term. But make no mistake, it takes quite a while for the investment to be worth it. Coincidentally, my parents are making their final house payment this week, and now they own a home that's valued in the high $300k's free and clear. The problems start when people buy a home they can't afford, and don't stay in their homes long term. I'm 27 and will rent for the foreseeable future because it does have value to a certain degree, but the goal is certainly to eventually own once I'm confident I can afford it and know I probably won't be leaving. Whether that's around here or somewhere else remains to be seen.
  12. The Dave Ramsey Show + hockey-related stuff.
  13. Thanks for that info. I've basically always operated under the opposite assumption, that U-turns were illegal unless otherwise stated. It's bizarre when you travel around the country and see people making U-turns at traffic lights on highways, but I guess that's the norm in a lot of places. Definitely not here in North Jersey, though. You can't even make a left at lights around here, let alone a U-turn. Lol
  14. Since a K-turn is simply a U-turn made in a confined space, I imagine the laws are the same for both - they're meant to accomplish the same goal, which is to turn your car around. I assume the legal issue if you decide to do either turn in the middle of a road is crossing over a double yellow line. I see people get nailed for this all the time on Bloomfield Avenue in Bloomfield near the Ricciardi's paint store. People park on the right side of the road, and when they leave, because Bloomfield Ave is so wide, they swing around and cross over to the other side. What they don't realize is that there's often a cop car waiting for them to do just that, and they get lit up within seconds.
  15. It's as simple as this. If you're asking if it's possible to get out of this without paying any sort of penalty, be it monetary or points on your record, the short answer is no. You can eliminate the points and the subsequent insurance increase by pleading guilty and paying a large fine. If you go back to the site and find there is no signage, I guess you could look into contesting it. Although you'd probably have to dig into the municipality's codes regarding U-turns. Rather than thinking I can make a U-turn if there is no signage, I always assume that U-turns around here are inherently illegal unless there IS a sign that says you CAN make a U-turn.
  16. My commute is 10 miles each way, but there's always a chance that I have to haul stuff to and from jobsites, or occasionally commute directly to jobsites. This week, I'll have driven 800 miles by end of business Friday. Honestly, I don't mind the driving at all, it's getting home late that pisses me off. I'm usually at work by 6 and home by 3, so on the days when I get home at 5 or later, it feels like I take a shower and it's already time for bed.
  17. A typo that meant to say privateflood.com, I'm assuming. Lol
  18. My old man got an email earlier this week from someone claiming to be from Apple, and I'll give them this much, the email had a pretty authentic look. Only problem was that the subject line read: "Immidite Actoin Reqiured"
  19. I have the 50/50 Fios package as far as internet, and run my iPhone/iPad/laptop/smart TV/Sonos speaker system all on the same network and have had zero problems. Granted, I live in an apartment and my router is close to everything, but if $10/month is enough to get you to change it, I'd go for it. You can always go back to 150. What are you getting for $180? What does your bundle cost before you add additional costs such as boxes/DVR/etc? Is the router yours or theirs?
  20. In my experience, when you cancel, all they want is their set top boxes returned, no one comes to your house to remove anything. Why would they bother? You're canceling. As far as installation costs, that can be negotiated whether it's with a new company or if you ever go back to who you have now. When I moved into my current apartment, Fios waived my installation fee simply because I have an excellent credit score.
  21. You're never gonna get fair value on your money as far as the food is concerned at a top notch place, in my opinion. But I'm willing to pay top dollar if the atmosphere and service matches the quality of food. Sorry to hear your experience was a disappointment. It's a tough pill to swallow when that much money is involved. I dropped about $500 at Keen's last year and left with quite a "blah" feeling. And for what it's worth, the $27 Outlaw Ribeye at Longhorn is a phenomenal bang for your buck, I enjoy it every single time and I'm not too proud to admit it.
  22. Ribeye. Always. Bone-in if possible. Most of the time I'll get a ribeye even if it's boneless, but I just love bone-in steaks so damn much that I'll consider a strip/sirloin just because of the bone. I was actually supposed to be at Gibson's in Chicago this weekend, but had to cancel the trip a few weeks ago. Would have been my 4th time. Place is heaven on earth.
  23. I don't enjoy telling people what to do with their money, but i agree with most others here that if you really feel you must, go ahead and buy one gun, but get yourself out of debt before buying more. Guns aren't going anywhere, they'll be around to buy when you're debt free and can pay cash for them. That'll be much more fun. Same principle applies to most things in life, not just guns. Just listen to 10 minutes of the Dave Ramsey Show and you'll never wanna go into debt of any kind again! Lol
  24. Did you read the sequel to Pillars of the Earth? "World Without End." Written almost 20 years later, just as good.
