  1. I'd buy it to shoot the hell out of it. It'd be my USPSA Ltd 10 and Single Stack gun. I'd also use it for static and knock down steel. And of course a regular range gun. I really like shooting the 1911 platform so I'd try to use it as much as I can. I reload for 45ACP so can afford to shoot more of it. I'd love to keep all my guns and not have to sell/trade to upgrade or exchange. But just don't have it like that right now. I know I'd take at least a $300 hit. I'm still in the early phases of my shooting experience so I'm in that wanna-try-everything mode. Don't worry one day I'll find a real nice gun my parents will like and settle down.
  2. I was wondering the same thing actually. Was considering getting the 220 classic 22 then later get the 45 slide. I want a 220 and would not mind another 22lr. My only concern was I thought the lower on the Classic 22 was different from the original 220, but from what I've read it's the exact same thing.
  3. The Dan Wesson is really nice. I just did some research. To get that though it'd be a two gun sacrifice. I thought about doing something like that, trading in a couple for a REALLY nice gun. Worth it? Debatable. Ed Browns are kinda out of reach at the moment.
  4. Just might take you up on that. It's at the top of the list right now of all the contenders. I've heard so many good things about them.
  5. I do love my Kimber TLE RL II. It's my favorite gun to shoot. But after my personal research I've noticed not all 1911s give the same shooting experience. There are a lot of offerings and I don't have the budget to have more than one 1911. If I want to try something else, then this one has to go. So far I've considered selling/trading my Kimber for the following brands: - S&W - Springfield Armory Loaded Series, or other higher end models - Colt - Sig Sauer Any thoughts or suggestions on this? Any other brands you'd suggest looking into? Also, let me know if you think it's not really going to be a big difference going from what I have to what I listed and not worth the effort selling/trading.
  6. I was just about to same the same thing as HD. 22Mag is bout the same cost as 9mm anyways, but if that's not a concern then I say go for it. I voted 1911. It was a toss up between it and the revolver. Revolver would be nice since it's very different from a semi. I just have a soft spot for 1911s and I think everyone should have at least one.
  7. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all with that gun. I love Sigs and the 226 is a great firearm. My only advice is to go somewhere and rent some other makes and models just so you get a good sense of what else is out there and how you like shooting them. If you're willing to spend that much your options are vast.
  8. I highly doubt that'd be the case with me. From my reloads to factory ammo my groups noticeably open up. I do shoot my Kimber in 45ACP very accurately, but that's also a full size, all steel gun so... But if you're comparable with both in USPSA you will do better because w/ major you lose less points for hits outside the 'A' zone.
  9. LOL! So freakin' true! I have four poo permits sitting in my safe. Maybe I'll use them as toilet paper.
  10. Video up. I narrated over it just cause most vids I see don't always explain what's going on and I thought maybe it's good for a new shooter/new competitive shooter. Hope you don't find it annoying. For those techies lemme know if you notice better quality as this was done all in 60fps. It takes forever to upload and process. Not sure if it's even worth it. Hope you all enjoy. See you at the next match!
  11. You can do 22lr rifle, or pistol caliber carbine. And as mentioned you can use shotgun as well, but I'm not sure the ammo required/allowed.
  12. What does "in the white" mean? I'd like to know how that Harbor Freight unit works.
  13. I know it's not the best reason to buy a gun, but looks do matter to me. I have no doubt the Trojan is a great 1911, but I simply could never get over the huge TROJAN and Horse Logo on the side of the slide. I do not like the look of external extractors, and the S&W has a HUMONGOUS one. The warning printed on the side doesn't help either. Do they affect performance? Definitely not. But I think part of shooting is the intrinsic value and the non-tangible experiences in handling your weapon of choice. 1911s in particular I feel I scrutinize even more in the looks department since you know they come in so many varieties. I went with my Kimber because I liked the way it appeared to me best. It had all the features I wanted, some functional, some not so functional, but all added value to my shooting experience. I wish I wasn't so picky. I could spend a couple hundred bucks on a High Point and call it a day.
  14. That's real close to me. Definitely will check it out.
  15. Good point about the matches. To me if the gun makes it through a match that is say a 200 round count that to me is the same as 400-500 rounds at the range where everything is controlled. I only say this because at the range you get mags dropped in dirt/gravel, shoot faster, reload through several mags, etc. Gun is just working a little harder. If it gets through a match or two I'm pretty happy. Especially if I was shooting my reloads.
  16. Good to hear man. If I got another Glock it'd be a Gen 4. Despite them having some issues I see that they do get resolved or have been resolved quickly with no issues thereafter. I like the Gen 4 looks and feel better.
  17. At what point are you convinced that your pistol is reliable? After a box of ammo and no malfunctions? After 200 rounds? 1000 rounds? I know of some people who only shoot a box and are good to go and others are 500 plus before they are convinced. For me I think 200 is a good number give or take. What is it for you?
  18. I got it all on video just like the USPSA match. This one will be a little more frustrating for me to watch though I'll have it up soon.
  19. Try Tenafly Rifle and Pistol Club perhaps? Probably 30-40 min from JC.
  20. A buddy of mine who shoots knockdown says new guys do a thing where they subtly lift their head to see the plate fall. In static steel you don't look for a falling plate, you stay more still and listen rather than watch. In knockdown you are tempted to look for the fall causing you to alter your sight picture. I think that's what I was doing. It makes a lot of sense on why I was very off. I will still continue to classify myself as a GM in my mind however.
  21. The Spyderco tenacious is a great knife for around $30. That's actually my kitchen knife. It's been left in the sink before. Get's used A LOT. Tough as nails.
  22. I rented until it finally came through. Tried A LOT of guns and shot A LOT of rounds for a guy who didn't own a gun/have an FID. This was all at ShoreShot since they were the ONLY range I could find that would let me shoot without an FID. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find a range that does that. Most shops won't even let you handle guns without an FID. I find that extreme. Not the shop, but that the laws in this state make it that way.
