  1. Nicely done! after seeing that now I need another one...
  2. Maybe not what you are looking for but I have the Fullfield E1 Riflescope 3X-9X-40mm on my 308 with a mount *like* the Adjustable-Dual-Side-Scope-Mount-Riser-Picatinny-Weaver-Rail, my mount is the same minus the logo, another eBay special. No complaints with the Burris scope(s) but I discovered that the slightest bump will knock the lateral adjustment off, I'm not happy with that. I’m may look for another mount w/o the vertical & lateral adjustments if this one wanders off the mark again. As usual I should have gone with the first mount I looked at w/o the extra adjustments. My sight isn’t what it used to be either but after 50 I’m just happy to get up in the morning
  3. If you go back to the CSS Bullet guide Video he does mention (at about the 5 minute mark) that on the 7.62 only you do need to take some off the top on the mag release.
  4. It happens, I mangled the trigger guard (hole) on the last one I did, it took small patch to repair it. On the first one I did I put the trigger guard on backwards. I had no idea until I found out afterwards that the correct way is larger opening goes forward, it is still on backwards, no big deal it shoots straight, LOL
  5. Look'n Good... FWIW you could have salvaged the old trigger guard for your build, either way should look nice when complete.
  6. OK, installed Krebs rear sight and just ordered the .052 Inch Diameter you recommended. I think I'll be OK with the .052, I did notice they even make a .034 but I don't think that will do it for me. The .052 should be fine and if not I'll paint it. I followed this method to do the exchange, He says bolt but I used a one inch long 6/32 and it worked perfectly. Thanks again for the recommendation EDIT: 8 May. I now have both the front and rear sight upgrades in places, Now after seeing it I should be fine with the .052 Inch diameter front post. 20 May- The Krebs pep sight just didn’t do it for me, I gave it a try yesterday. Last night I put the original sights back on, it was worth a try…
  7. Thanks Glenn. That’s from the manufacture’s site http://www.krebscust...ikovParts.shtml , again that would be a nice setup. I read the review on Midway for the front post replacement you suggested and it starts off by saying “if you have good eyes” so that may leave me out. Too bad they don’t have one with an illuminated tip, that would work for me. For example something *like* this that I picked up for one of my Mosins. http://www.gunandgam...t-opinions.html I have a few Saiga's and only my is 308 scoped. I have no intention of scoping the others. As Ray says above scopes just don’t look good on this style rifle and M4BGRINGO is also correct if sight is an issue, so both are correct.Right now on a good day 75 yard is about it for me with Thompson 15 to 200 yard targets with ramp sights. This is going to sound naïve but after 50 who cares, LOL. I don’t know if I have 800m or 1000m. I’m thinking the way to tell is the length, I would have to verify before purchasing. I did buy the Tapco adjustment tool for my 7.62 front sights. My first 223 was perfect right out of the box and I have a second 223 that I haven’t even tried yet so that's the one I’d like to outfit with the sight upgrade. And if it works out, perhaps then do the others. Thanks for the tips, I’m definitely going to look into the upgrade
  8. Nice, is that the KREBS CUSTOM AK APERTURE SIGHT CATALOG NUMBER 15 ? If so will it work on Saiga and is it is easy to replace? TIA
  9. A few months ago when I was looking to purchase a Saiga 308. I added one to my “Wish List” (AKA back-in stock notification) on BudGunshop. Yesterday I received a notice that they had 308’s for “VIP members”which I am not for $630 w/Free S&H, plus whatever the VIP membership cost is. I was amazed, that’s a pretty nice climb in price considering I got my 308 Shipped for $474 in November. I guess that was the deal of the decade for me. Then just for laughs I looked at Mississippiautoarms.com and they were at $653.00 plus S&H and Atlanticfirearms.com $569 plus S&H. Since the 308 I purchased in the 223 and 7.62 and been watching those prices spike as well. I don’t know if the price hikes were tied to this but if I were a betting man I say the prices are really going to spike now. I hope they could salvage the company but judging from that article it doesn’t look good.
  10. Check head space and firing pin stick-out before firing, Many youtube vids on that as well. Good Luck, enjoy your Mosin !
  11. I've been using use Tetra Gun Lubricant Gun Oil (8 oz Aerosol), slight order indoors but not too bad. IMO it does an excellent job but YMMV. It is also good on synthetics and provides a nice finish. That said I may look into the G96 Dan mentioned next time around, looks like good stuff...
  12. Rather than doing the AR adapter I was thinking about installing a bullet guide in my saiga 223. Does anyone know where I could get 223 Rem 556NATO 15Rd (pinned) Galil/Golani mags if I were to go that route? can they even be had in the 15rd configuration? TIA
  13. One morning a blind bunny was hopping down the bunny trail and tripped over a large snake and fell, kerplop right on his twitchy little nose. ‘Oh please excuse me,’ said the bunny. ‘I didn’t mean to trip over you, but I’m blind and can’t see.’ ‘That’s perfectly all right,’ replied the snake. ‘To be sure, it was my fault. I didn’t mean to trip you, but I’m blind too, and I didn’t see you coming. By the way, what kind of animal are you?’ ‘Well, I really don’t know,’ said the bunny.. ‘I’m blind, and I’ve never seen myself. Maybe you could examine me and find out.’ So the snake felt the bunny all over, and he said, ‘Well, you’re soft, and cuddly, and you have long silky ears, and a little fluffy tail and a dear twitchy little nose. You must be a bunny rabbit!’ The bunny said, ‘I can’t thank you enough. But by the way, what kind of animal are you?’ The snake replied that he didn’t know either, and the bunny agreed to examine him, and when the bunny was finished, the snake asked, ‘Well, what kind of an animal am I?’ The bunny had felt the snake all over, and he replied, ‘You’re cold, you’re slippery, and you have no balls…You must be a POLITICIAN’
  14. As already stated they are fun to shoot and cheap and more importantly to me is you get a piece of History for about $100. I'm pushing 55 and I get a kick out of shooting something older than me If you don’t have anything to do one night rent Enemy at the Gates, some say after the release of that movie that is when they really became popular. Over on THR here is one of many Mosin Nagant Threads if you are interested. Safety First, for those just getting into Mosins (I'm no expert) but make sure you check your headspace before firing your Mosin. There are many youtube videos on the subject, more info here EDIT: also check don't forget to check your firing pin adjustment
  15. I wouldn't say converting is "extremely easy" but it isn't rocket science either. the last time I was in your posted Home Range (ShoreShot) they had a few converted Sagias hanging on the wall...

I've seen an image on the net where someone had a standard AR mag stored in the stock.Obviously you would have to turn the standard mag horizontal whereas the factory 10's are upright, I've never tried it with mine but I assume it will take them because the stock is only plastic and pretty flexible.

Foldable but keep in mind only the C fires from the folded position, needless to say the C is NOT NJ legal. I have the A and CA versions. I sent the A back to the factory to have them install the Bravo sights. The CA is good right out of the box. I like my SU16’s, on on every trip to the range I always take one with me. With the good mags neither rifle has ever jammed or failed to feed. They have a 1:9 twist and w/Chrome-lined barrel. They are chambered 5.56 and 223 works just as well, YMMV. They are accurate & agile if that is what you are looking for... I wouldn't depend on the factory 10 rd mags, I've exchanged all four once already and I continue to have feeding issues with the factory mags. I use pinned 15 rd Magpul PMAG(s) and they work flawlessly. this is an old picture, both are now scoped.
  18. If you would have told me 10 years ago I would be buying guns online I would have said “not me”, I would have thought it would be too hard and or extra paperwork but it is pretty much like buying in the local store. Off the top of my head I’ve purchased my last 7 rifles online and prior to that three hand guns. Some FFL’s charge too much so like anything else shop around. As far as my Bud’s Mosin, it is what is. As mentioned above the Finnish Mosin seems to be the best of breed but they were running a little high for me, that said I really like my M44, it's one of my favorite carbines. BTW Please don’t let the username imply I’m a Mosin expert, I’m just fan as stated in the username. I get a big kick of out of these. OT but I was going to get a C&R so I could by them Mosins and other old guns myself but just as I was going to summit the paper work but I found out NJ stymied the C&R license as with ALL our other goofy gun laws. Good luck with your Mosin, they are a blast to shoot
  19. IIRC a few months back I was in ShoreShot (for another transaction) and I *think* one of the guys said they could get them or have them in from time to time. I have three Mosins which were all purchased online. I have two 91/30’s, one round and the other is hex. The round receiver was my first from Bud’s Gunshop, it's not perfect but for $89 I can’t complain. Then I purchased the hex M91/30 and M44, both are in great shape. One came from one came from Aim and the other was from Classicarms. Classic has currently “SELECT GRADE M91/30 HEX RECEIVER RIFLES” so if you wanted to roll the dice with an online purchase it might be worth it. FWIW I’ve purchased twice from ClassicArms and both times were nice easy transactions.
  20. When I first considered the mag adapter I did a Google search and it came back with a Saiga image as the mill work was being done. I was trying to find that image for this thread but found the other forum thread instead. You know how it was with Google, it’s hit or miss and didn’t feel like making a day out of the search. That said I haven’t ruled out the mag adapter, it’s just not a priority because it’s up and working with US mags As far as the 7.62 question I completed that one during the week w/bullet guide. I took it out yesterday for the first time and shot 80 rounds of Tula ammo with no problems whatsoever. What’s funny is I cleaned when I came home and when I reassembled it after the cleaning and cycled the action it didn’t feel right, I took it apart and my trigger spring walked off from its location as in this post . Again I could have shot it all day yesterday but I had another gun I wanted to shoot. I don’t know if the bolt assembly went in incorrectly and knocked the spring off or if that is even possible? I put the spring back and cycled it 20 – 30 times and all is good again. I guess the moral of that story is you have to be very careful on the re-assembly...
  21. Anyone considering this may want to read this one Post #1 and post # 41 cite cracks in trunnion after adapter install. Post #56 provides a good theory on preventing the cracks however YMMV. I don't have an account on this site so I can't view the images
  22. Thanks for the reply back and clarification on the 922r, someday I’ll get that one.... I value your opinion on these guys so I’m a little surprised you and my non-NJGF source are 180 degrees out on this one, he is also very familiar with these as well. I love the idea of the mag adapter but I would actually need to see what gets milled-out before I could make a decision. I'll look into further
  23. I completed the 7.62 with bullet guide. I’m going to stick with US 10 rd mags for now since I don’ t know... Here’s a link to my newest build Saiga if interested As far as the .223 question another online forum buddy says his personal choice is not to alter the gun to use the adapter. I interpret that as I would be affecting the integrity of the structure, now a vendor of these adapters may disagree but I concur with him since I didn’t know hacking out mag well was required
  24. as of last week $349.99 at Classisarms for 7.62 which was $373 to me with S&H plus. This is my 3rd one Saiga buy since joining this NJGF for a grand total of four. I had a 308 before arriving here but didn't convert until I started hanging out here for a while, LOL. I'm glad I finally purchased something that is actually going up in value.
