  1. I admit that I am prejudiced because I never owned any car for less than 10 years (except for the one I totaled as a kid, but that is different). I agree the math does work if you would be buying a new car every 3-to-5 years anyway. That is IF, and this is a big IF, you do your homework and don't get taken for a fool by the finance officer at the car lot. As I said above, I did the math on my niece's Nissan and she had an effective finance rate of over 12%.
  2. At a high level, the way a lease works is, the actuaries who work for finance companies calculate the projected value of the car at the end of the lease and subtract it from its new value and that amount is financed. So the lesser the depreciation over the term, the better the deal. The major problem with leasing cars that cost less than $30K is that the service charges, origination fees, interest and other crap adds up to an order of magnitude that is meaningful compared to the amount financed. The minor problem with leasing is that you do not own the car. You never have a trade-in, you have no equity, and can become locked into a leasing cycle where you cannot afford to buy. Remember, trade-in value is what makes buying new cars possible for most people. As Howard mentioned, if you are going to lease, do your homework. Leases are sold by monthly payments, not total capital outlays. So, they hide a lot of crap in them. I have seen some lease offers from Nissan with effective finance rates in excess of 12%.
  3. Ugh! This thread was painful to read. I gave up. The answer to the OP's question is the logical AND between the following 3 conditions: A. Current personal savings is greater than 3-months regular income plus the cost of the car B. Plan to own the car more than 5 years, the longer the better. C. Best available finance rate is greater than ~3% If A and B and C, then buy the car cash. Otherwise, finance it. Never lease. Leasing of middle class cars is the biggest scam ever contrived by the corporate robber barons and only makes poor people poorer. Leasing only makes sense for expensive cars that hold their value over time.
  4. Ever nick yourself shaving? The face bleeds like crazy. A broadhead like that would leave a 1-inch gaping exit wound. But there is none to be seen in the photo. If it was shot this season, the fur would be matted with blood and puss. If it was shot long enough ago for the wound to heal and for secondary infections/abscesses to clear, the arrow would show signs of weathering (especially on the fletching). Probably someone's private protest against bow hunting.
  5. Has anyone had any luck earning achievements through donating or referring a friend. I have done both and have not received any achievements. Given that 22 achievements are required to unlock the master chemist, you cannot get to the black hole unless you want to wait 3 days. Or, am I missing something?
  6. How the heck do you get started? I racked up $40,000 (that is 4,000 mouse clicks) and I still cannot buy anything. The trailer appears available to buy but my buy button will not work.
  7. The perfect response would be: if the Constitution said "the People's right to keep and drive automobiles shall not be infringed" we would have equal issues with the left column as well.
  8. Taking photographs inside a place of public polling is a Federal offense. You are a criminal. :-D ETA: Damnit, Shawn. You of all people don't need to give them any more reasons to harass you. :-D

There is a website that will tell you the month and year it was manufactured. Google it.
  10. I just voted for Cory Booker. I voted that he should remain the Mayor of Newark.
  11. What are you, the leader of a Mexican drug cartel? :-D
  12. I think you are good to go. You might want to prepare for someone getting their panties in a wad at your local PD or the NJSP firearms unit. But I am fairly confident the manufacturer is free to assign any serial number they choose, so long as it is unique for their line of business.
  13. It's called getting old. First to go are the eyes. Then the back. Then the ears. Then the junk. Get used to it.
  14. Friends, My question was on legality. I was not sure if constructive possession applied to this situation or if I would be in legal trouble for facilitation. When it comes to the advisability and peripheral consequences, please trust that I have the faculties to weigh the pros and cons. I appreciate the legal guidance, and I do understand that it is worth everything that I paid for it. ;-) I appreciate the guidance people have offered on the advisability and potential consequences. I respect everyone's opinion. OP bowing out now. Enjoy the fight.
  15. I was a member for something like 5 years. You really save money and if you spend $1,000 on ammo per year, it pays for itself. I have no issues with SG on ammo or ammo prices. I would still recommend them for ammo and national brand merchandise. My issues are with the quality of their "Guide Gear" product line, their policies regarding shipping firearm components to NJ, and their customer service.

If you are buying them to shoot, you will not see much of a functional difference. They both appear to be 90-to-95%. Everything else being equal, I would go with '89. I'll second what Parker said about holding the blue. I bought and refinished a '73 about 3 years ago. The bluing is already starting to fade. But it is not worth the cost to have it stripped and hot blued. It's a shooter, so I just shoot it. The kids love it.
  17. This would normally be reasonable advice. But not this kid's mom. Well, not unless we convinced her that range was giving out coupons to Bloomingdales. :-p
  18. Hey guys, I found a dead fish. Let's all pick it up and pose with it for a picture!
  19. Nuclear waste from the Japanese reactor? Just wait to see what happens when it reaches the sea iguanas in the Galapagos.
  20. SG ain't what they used to be. I gave up on them over a year ago.
  21. Nope. I made a comment up top and was summarily chastised for it.

I would not expect to see a huge difference in function. As a rule, the newer the mfg date the lower the material quality, but both rifles were made before the Winchester quality collapse in the 1990s. Those prices sound very fair for excellent-to-mint condition. If it were not for the fact that I am still on probation with my wife from my buying binge last winter, I would be seriously tempted to add another Model 1894 to my collection.

I can't see your attachments. I have seen mint condition Win94's from the mid 1960's go for $1,000 and higher. Are you looking for a collector's piece or a shooter? If you are looking for a shooter, there is no reason to pay more than $600 for an excellent condition Win94 with a couple of love marks on it.
  24. Haven't you noticed that all the *WTF?!?!* videos on LiveLeaks come from Russia? Going off their internet posts, Darwinism is a live and well in Russia.
