  1. The demo I saw on TV of the system used in Evesham requires the driver to check the computer's interpretation of the image with the image to make sure it got the plate right. Maybe they were just operating it that way for the News demo but if not it could increase operator distraction as they have to hit a key on the MDT for every plate.
  2. I don't claim to know the caller's awareness of CO's gun laws or firearms. If the caller had zero experience with them, and does not know what's legal and what is not, then calling the police is not an overreaction. It may not be the RIGHT reaction, but given the circumstances it's not a reach either. I'm a little surprised that the guy got as far as he did.. He walked into the lobby, bought a ticket, walked through the theater, sat down, and it wasn't until the lights went out and the movie started that someone dialed 911. Now, either everyone who saw him realized that what he was doing is legal.. both patrons and employees.. until we get to the lady sitting next to him.. or nobody noticed..
  3. I don't think I'd say the patron overreacted.. Even being uninformed they handled it pretty well.. discretely called the PD (vs freaking out). It was the wrong action, given CO's open carry policies, but it was discrete.
  4. I didn't see any true coverage but they did show highlights and interviewed her. They also mentioned that she also set a record for the highest score (99 out of 100) in an Olympics
  5. I wanted to take the wife to the range over the weekend to both try my Sig but also try a revolver that she might like better. To my surprise her Mother also wanted to come (in return for babysitting). She lives out near the shore so we met up at Shore Shot and we spent a few hours there. She had never fired a gun before but was on her 'bucket list'. She said she had a blast! Started her out with a 22 revolver walked her through safety, operation..etc. She started out REALLY nervous, especially with the guy firing the 45 in the lane next door. Still she did great and by the end she was reloading by herself and not jumping EVERY time our neighbor fired. My wife did really well also. I had her rent a 357 revolver firing 38+P's.. started her out at 5 yards and she did great then 10.. 15.. by the end she wanted the target 'all the way back' and she was getting better groups then I was. Finally had her try a rental P226 9mm similar to what I have. She did well there too, but preferred the revolver. One thing I noticed was that both our shots were off with the Sig. I noticed this with mine as well. When I shot the revolvers things were going right where I wanted but with the Sig everything was down and to the Right. Obviously you cant diagnose a shot over a forum post, but does anyone else see that going between platforms? Anyway, the three of us had a great day at the Range.. and my MIL wants to do it again. +1 to the "not so scared of guns' group.
  6. Admittedly the breast is best folks can be just as die hard. And it's just as annoying. But they don't have the backing of a big company with just profit in mind.
  7. I agree it is the family's decision. But it is hard to make a informed decision when the manufacturers, through the hospitals, throw free formula at you. It can be hard to start breast feeding and given all the other stresses at that time it is very easy to accept the formula. Maybe some sort of legislation is necessary to counter the sheer amount f money the gerbers dump just to get families hooked on formula early on. And by hooked I mean simply that if the mother doesn't start breast feeding early they can't just start later. Which means the formula folks have a dedicated customer for a year+. Again nothing wrong with formula. If that is the decision you make as parents then cool.
  8. I can kin of agree. Depends in the details. I know when my wife was in the hospital we were bombarded with formula and we had to very specifically tell them no. The formula companies give the hospitals a ton of free samples. They know that if parents start early on formula they can't start breast feeding. Once on formula they're usually on formula for the duration. I agree that hospitals should encourage natural breast feeding. Not sure if bloombergs approach is good tho

    Rail gun?

    This one too...
  10. 10-4, K. Looks very nice. To me I'd think the 2400 MSRP would be a bigger hurdle then getting the above modified. I want a AR eventually (hopefully sooner rather than later).. but my price range is definitely not that.
  11. What's NJ-illegal about it? Flash suppressor and 30 round mag?

    Rail gun?

The physical size wouldn't change.. but the amount of energy required to accelerate an object increases to infinity as it's velocity approaches the speed of light
  13. I need to read this forum more often. Hitting up Range-14 tonight would have been fun but it's too late to change plans. Maybe next time!
  14. I'm going to use my old Samsung HDTV box. That way I'll blend in with all the other looters.
  15. If the movie had stopped and the lights had come on the second this guy walked OUT the exist door then I'm sure there would not have been as much confusion when he re-entered as he did.. if only because his initial actions would not have been obscured by the dark room and movie. There is also a higher chance someone would notice his attire and the firearms the moment he came back through the door and get people moving a little quicker. Similarly if the door was wired to the security desk it would get those guys moving a little quicker.. not sure what they'd be able to do in this situation, but it would improve awareness. Would it have stopped it? Probably not. Could it have reduced the number of people hurt/killed? Probably.
  16. I've yet to see anything that says WHERE this supposed drum was used. The pic from the scene showed the rifle with a normal magazine.
  17. The article doesn't mention using these battalions domestically. All mention is to deploy them to 'allied countries' to provide security for our personnel and to help train local authorities.
  18. There's one spot you won't need to mow.
  19. True but flip it around. The worst that could happen is the guys with CCWs tried to engage Holmes and hit innocent innocents in the process then were confused with the original attacker by incoming police and shot and killed. Imagine the news coverage then? I understand that's a very what-if. At a minimum we need to acknowledge that this would have been an extremely adverse tactical situation that would have required an amazing amount of training and fortitude to overcome by anyone inside the theater.
  20. This. I want to think it would help but it's a tough sell. People compare it with the Internet Cafe robbery as "proof" but the two situations are drastically different. I don't know what accessories were used nits impossible to get anything resembling a fact. The investigation is still getting the real data and the MSM is leaping over themselves to spew anything they can think of (drum mags capable of 50-60 rounds per second?). Hell I'd feel better if they stop using, or at least define, "assault weapon" because I don't believe any were used in this incident.
  21. I think the Onion article (which I can't find ATM) said it best. The outrage and mudslinging and political handwringing over this is predictable and obscene. Gun control isn't the issue. His guns were legal (ever if some of the accessories weren't). And he had no history that would have precluded ownership. Even if they were not, he could have easily gotten them illegally. More importantly. This guy could have just as easily done this without firearms. He already showed willingness to build homemade explosives. Bloomberg and Huffington can cool it. Finally, about the only thing that would have helped here would be if the theater had the exit doors wired. Open an exit door and the movie stops, the lights come on, and security is notified. Would that have stopped this event? Maybe. But it could have helped. Maybe the drum mag was on the Glock? . Or the shot gun.
  22. Then there is this beauty from the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/21/us/colorado-gun-laws-remain-lax-despite-changes-after-columbine.html
