  1. Hey, just let you know.... About 2 months ago I set up for podcast (I know, they've been around for awhile, I just never took the time). First one I listened to was the most current Gunforhire, I have now down loaded and listened To most of the archived shows. Great job! I enjoy listening to them, I learn a lot from the programs and now find myself looking forward to the new ones. I'm a South Jerseyite, and I'm looking forward to a run up to meet you guys and see your facility sometime here in the near future.
  2. Welcome - Woodbury - Gloucester County Where do you shoot?
  3. if you guys get down to Salem County stop in at County Sports in Carney's Point. Owner has a great little business, very small (so small he limits the number of people in the shop at the same time). But rarely have I had to wait to get in, surprising nice inventory, and if he doesn't have it, just ask, he will find it for you. Prices can't be beat. When you first go there, the owner is (understandably) a bit cautious of opening up, talking, etc. I've been stopping in for a couple years now, he's loosened up, talks IDPA, CMP, 2A - and like I said, If I'm looking for something specific I tell him, and he has always gotten back to me with it. I also like Banger's in Winslow, Butches in Vineland, Freedom Ammo in Mantua, I shy away from Hauge's in West Depford, But I gotta admit, never went there based in reputation alone.
  4. Yes! Yes! Happy to report the dogs returned on their own! One was scratched up a bit, the other appeared to have maybe some frostbite on His paws. Both have a Vet appointment in the morning. Every time I talked to my sister she sounded more depressed at having the dogs run off. She said she looked up at the sliding glass door today and Jake was standing there, She ran outside, and Smokey jumped on her from the side (happy to see her jump). One was chipped, the other was to be chipped this week or next (I'm sure it will happen tomorrow). Thanks again for the feedback and tips from this forum. Like I said, my sister is not social media savoy, I was able to Feedback to her comments and links from this forum - I know it helped to keep her hopes up over the past 4 days!
  5. Thanks for all the feedback. Jake and Smokey still have not returned. My sister contacted a tracker/trainer who told her to keep looking, but the best chance of finding them is to use social media. Again, thanks for the feedback, my sister is not very social media savvy, But she has friends helping, and this group has helped me to show her that the word is getting out.
  6. Thanks JDemented, good to know the word is out. Hopefully someone has the dogs and is trying to find the owner....
  7. My sister lives in Southampton Township, just off of Route 70 near Wharton State Forest. Her two young German Shepherds (10 months) took off in the woods (probably chasing a deer), and never returned. Dogs are friendly, last seen Saturday night (February 14). If you live in or travel through the area, and see them or know of their whereabouts, a phone call to 609 859 2281 would greatly appreciated.
  8. Never bought a gun from Dick's, but occasionally buy ammo and miscellaneous gun accessories from the Dick's in Deptford. They're a good group of guys, never pushy, always helpful.
  9. The only "sure thing"... If we don't even try, it's certainly not going to happen. I went to the NJ2AS meeting at SJSC to hear what Alexander Roubian had to say, and yes his plan is a stretch, But it is a well laid out plan.

  14. I agree with the guy that said to "get both"! (I'll qualify the following as my opinion only....) But I would say the shield is a more versatile piece But the wheelie is more fun To shoot. My experience is with a S&W 586 and a Shield 9 They're both great guns, but I do more with the shield. (Again, that's just me). In either case, let us know!
  15. It's a shame, you want to support local business, but you pay an average of $25 - $40 for a box (50-100 rds) at local shops. You will find going on-line and purchasing 500 - 1000 round lots you can cut the price almost in half. If you shoot regularly, or if you get involved in some of the competitive shooting like IDPA ,1000 round lots is not unreasonable. I have never been asked to forward copies of documentation, I have been asked to verify (check a box) my age. I use slickguns.com for leads, most of the places I buy from have been mentioned in previous post to this topic.
  16. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions, Right off the bat, the "canting" of the weapon, I've been consciously NOT doing that thinking it might be bad form, I'll work it in tomorrow. I'll also not allow myself to get frustrated with the loss of accuracy for greater distances, both IDPA matches I've shot so far required weak side shooting, they were 7 yards or less, but I still racked up points. Thanks again, for the help!
  17. I have been out for a couple of IDPA shoots, like them, would like to continue on and improve with the sport. Being the new shooter, it's easy to pick out my gross deficiency's, most of them are no surprise, probably typical for someone new to the sport and I have good ideas as to what I need to do to fix the issue. One problem I have, but I'm at a complete loss as to how to fix it, is I SUCK at weak side shooting. At 15 yards I'm consistently low, and as the distance gets greater, I'm off the paper. I've tried several grip adjustments, and for sight alignment, I'm shooting with the non-dominate eye closed. I haven't been working on this for too long, but I don't seem to be making any progress at all. Any ideas? Thoughts, drills that might get me on target? Thanks!
  18. Thinking along the same lines myself, pretty sure I'm going to "pull the trigger" (haha, I love to say that) on a Beretta xcel 400 this Friday - it is an investment, right?

    M1 Garand help

I’ve had my M1 Garand for over a year, in that time I’ve put just under 400 rounds through it, (including 2 CMP shoots). It’s an SA with a receiver serial number in the 327XXXX range, the barrel is post war 1953. The rifle was purchased from a very reputable local gun store. All I have ever shot through it was brand new PPU 30-06 Springfield FMJ (150 gr) for M1 Garand ammo. I don’t single load nor do I have a SLED, but I’ve always use a 2 rd, a 5 rd, or an 8 rd en bloc clip. The 2 and 5 rd clips are purchased, they’re nothing I made myself. Yesterday I loaded up the 2 round en bloc clip, and attempted a sight-in shot at 100 yards, the rifle fired both rounds with a single trigger pull (in WTF-auto fashion). I have heard of “slam-fire”, I’ve also heard of the term “bump fire”, the slam fire is why I always use an en bloc clip and don’t single load. What do you think I experienced there? I’d appreciate any thoughts or comments on what happened there, Do I have an issue with the gun? Do I have an issue with the ammo? Does the shooter have an issue? Is this some kind of an anomaly that the M1 shooter needs to be aware of, something that that is not unheard of, anyone else have an experience like this? Thanks!
  21. Welcome! What's your favorite shooter?
