  1. I hate going to the range alone because there's nobody around to see how awesome I am. I'm kidding, I don't hate gong to the range alone. I'd say it's about 50/50. When I'm dialing in a new scope, shooting for precision and need to concentrate, or just need some "me" time, I usually go alone. But, I also love sharing my love for the sport and try to get people to come with me. Shooting is both social and personal. I used to hunt waterfowl alone too. I actually preferred it, though I did hunt with others occasionally. I hunted on a river that I have known my whole life, I could paddle to my favorite spots blindfolded. The quiet, the serenity, the singular interaction with nature was (for me) an almost spiritual experience. This was long before cell phones so I brought a CB walkie with me and I was also close enough to other hunters and civilization that people could hear the universal distress signal of three consecutive shots spaced a few seconds apart. As far as safety is concerned. Shooting is no different than any other activity. Driving, cleaning gutters, trimming tree limbs, walking down a flight of stairs. As long as you are not stupid, your chances of survival are pretty good.
  2. So, I just picked up mine. The barrel is very thick walled, seems like it can take some abuse. The slide is a little sticky, hopefully that will smooth out with some use. If not, I'll have to break out the Dremel and see what contact surfaces can be polished. The slide release is alien to me as I'm an 870 guy. I keep pressing where there is no slide release. duur... AT least the trigger is in the right place.
  3. Seen a couple of videos where they compared different types of buckshot in the shockwave. The one with control flight wads performed extremely well. 12" patterns at 25 yards fist size pattern at 7 yards.
  4. I'm in. Browning O/U 12GA Rem 870 Express 12GA Shockwave 12GA Most of a box of clays 30 experimental flash targets
  5. Who is Tyler Ham? I once knew a Patricia Ham and a Dave Ham. Are they related?
  6. This could be the beginning of a new hot topic thread. Pastrami or corned?
  7. I'm looking forward to the next one. I made some flash targets, they (should) go POOF when they get hit.
  8. That may be a deal breaker for me. I believe it's possible to build an AR 10/AR 308 the same as an AR 15 but it will take a lot more research, and probably money. I'm about to say eff it an just plunk down the coin for a Springfield m21 type rifle. It was on my bucket list anyway.
  9. I never cared for the look of a full length rail on a handguard. Do you happen to know if the rail is removable on the aero
  10. I saw Primary Arms has the Aero receivers for a halfway decent price. Is there any particular reason I would want to get the Aero handguard. I prefer ALG EMR Mlok.
  11. Many a citizen of NJ has been burned by fictitious laws. They kinda make them up as they go along. Ironically, it's easier to get a CCW in CA and it appears that tasers are unrestricted there too. Like I said, the moment it is in writing, I will be first in line. Until then I am following the tenet of: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  12. You missed the point completely. If the ONLY reason you give a cop for possessing a knife is self defense, you are boned. I almost always carry a knife, but i'm not a moron who would tell a cop that the reason I carry a knife is for self defense. I actually have many legitimate uses for the knife I carry (from cuttting cardboard boxes to fudge brownies) and use it every day. A Taser has just one single function. There is no sporting or utility purpose for a taser. The post DirtyDigz made is encouraging, but until it is writing, signed and stamped with the state seal, the area is too gray for my comfort level. I am not trying to talk people out of being able to defend themselves, in fact, if it is clearly legal to carry a taser, I would be the first to promote the use of them. What I don't want to see is a bunch of good people getting caught up in our ridiculous legal system that is set up as a snare to entrap law abiding citizens.
  13. Self defense is not unlawful in NJ. Carrying a weapon specifically for the purpose of self defense is. The restrictions are so tight here that we are only allowed to carry a small canister of pepper spray and a whistle.. This is a state where daisy red rider BB guns require a FID to purchase and if you want to buy a .177cal target air pistol you have to go through exactly the same process as if you were buying a 44magnum.
  14. Let's say you get stopped by a cop, and you have a pocket knife on you. And the cop asks you for what lawful purpose do you have this knife, and your reply is for self-defense. You'll be taking a trip to the police station. There is really only one lawful purpose to carry a taser. It's reasonable and it's rational however that is not how the state of New Jersey will likely see it. One of the problems we have here is that what is not expressly denied is not tacitly implied to be permitted.
  15. Ya, I got a good deal on a G2S last year on black friday for .... I dunno, I think I paid $115.00 for it and got some swag stickers or some other bs. I'll probably wait for the sale.
  16. When they upgraded the forum software.
  17. Basically, the SSA is a semi auto version of a milspec select fire trigger. The G2S is made from the same steel as the SSA but is mechanically different. EDIT: PSA has the SSA-E on sale for $180, that's 60 off the normal price everywhere. I'm going to get one.
  18. I put the G2S in my SPR. It is a vast improvement over polished NiB single stage. But.... It still has flaws. I'm not saying it's a terrible trigger, it really helped me get my groups tighter. I can get .3moa out of it, but it's a struggle. It does not break as cleanly as I'd like and the second stage is about a pound too heavy.
  19. I think I'm going to get the PSA upper and lower set. It's the same as DPMS pattern with one exception. one of the take down pins is fatter or something. Not a big deal. Everything else is DPMS or AR-15. PSA PA-10 lower is only $80.00
  20. Pretty useless unless you have ballistic walls too.
  21. I dunno man, you called me a democrat. That's a pretty big hurdle. Being called a goat fucker would be less offensive than being called a democrat. It's going to take a big heart shaped box of chocolates to fix this relationship.
  22. It's exactly what you said. btw, getting all uppity and calling me some ridiculous thing like a democrat news anchor, weak "brah"
