  1. I'm sorry, I must have missed something. I thought the OP wanted to build an SPR.
  2. 55gr M193 and SPR are mutually exclusive. What you want is an old skool M16ish rifle with a 20" 1:12 bbl if shooting 55gr pills is what you want.
  3. 18", 1:8 twist, Stainless, .223 Wylde chamber, Rifle length gas system, Medium contour, threaded with target crown. Thread protector or compensator. Rainier, Odin Works, Nordic, White Oak. If money is no object, Shilen, Noveske and JP are quite good. Technically, an SPR barrel is spec'd with a 1:7 twist but this limits your optimal bullet weight to 77gr match grade ammo. It will not shoot 62gr XM855 well at all and you can forget about 55gr. Going with a 1:8 you can still shoot 77gr with very good accuracy but will also shoot 62gr green tip with acceptable accuracy. Basically a 1:8 gives you a greater range of bullet weights whereas a 1:7 restricts you to the heavier pills.
  4. Pretty much all of my computers, laptop and desktop, get a stay of execution with Ubuntu to eek out another two or three years of service before being sent off to the scrap heap. For those unfamiliar with Linux, it can seem like a scary proposition. If one is going to chuck an old PC anyway, just try it out. The Ubuntu flavor is very easy to install. For basic web stuff, Ubuntu is fine. It is also considerably more secure than any version of M$ Windows. I install it on my teenage son's computers to help alleviate the problems with viruses and malware designed to attack windows systems typically found on websites that teenagers tend to visit. The best part of Ubuntu, and most other versions of Linux, is it's FREE. The first time I installed it was on an older 1.8 GHz P4 lappy with a 400MHz FSB and 2GB memory. It was like adding a turbocharger to that slow old system. It recognized all of the hardware without any problems. Easiest install ever.
  5. I have always preferred desktops to laptops because, like my AR, I can customize the shit out of it. Laptops are also a pain in the ass to repair.

    Ruger

How about a DI Ruger AR-556. $200 less and completely customizable. Street price is $600.00 http://www.ruger.com/products/ar556/models.html
  7. The ground there is very sandy and soft. I drive the stakes with a hammer. Seems easier than digging holes. Also watch for the turnoff. There aren't any clear signs pointing to R-14. Range Road sort of forks. The first couple of times I went I missed the turnoff. For a clear visual use google earth to see where you need to turn off.
  8. Bring (or buy) chamber flags. They are very strict with that. Also, bring your mittens.

    Ruger

As Vlad mentioned the SRE-556 has some proprietary components. As far as replacement parts go, or warranty service is concerned, Ruger has no written warranty. Instead, the warranty is implied and is applicable based on the state you reside in. Generally speaking, if anything goes wrong with you Ruger firearm, you can sen it in for repair at little to no cost to you. There were some problems a few years ago with carrier tilt wearing the buffer tube but that non critical issue was resolved yeas ago. AFAIK, that was the only common problem and whenever someone with ANY Ruger has sent it in for repair it was covered. Only abused firearms were not covered. I've heard Ruger owners talk about firearms they've owned for 30 years needing service, sent back to Ruger, returned to owner repaired and tuned up at no cost. The best way, in my opinion, to get the lowdown on any product you want more info on is to google the product followed by the word "problem". You will find every complaint, valid or not, on whatever you are interested in.
  10. I will be buying two somewhat expensive bottles of 21 year single old malt scotch for my mother. So far what I have found is limited stock and/or prices that verge on assrape. Can anybody recommend a place that has good inventory and reasonable prices. I already took it up the bung hole on one bottle, overpaid by almost $30. This is kind of important to me. My mom is an avid scotch drinker and this will likely be my last Christmas present to her since she was diagnosed with inoperable stage 3 cancer three months ago. I want to get her something she will enjoy while she still can. Some of the names I'm looking for. Also open to sugesstions Oban Lagavaulin MacCallan Auchentoshan Arbelour Dram Select 21
  11. Maybe this will be helpful. Last year I bought a rifle from a NJ LGS. The transaction got hung up in the NICS system so I went home. The following day I was contacted by the LGS to come and pick up my rifle, NICS went through. When I got down there I realized I forgot my FPID. The sales dude said it was not a problem. I had already LEGALLY purchased the rifle according to NJ state law. I did not need my FPID to transport it home. Sooooo..... If I go to PA (with or without a FPID) and buy a BB gun, rifle, shotgun or whatever else I can buy there legally in accordance with PA's laws (but is not on NJ's banned list) I can transport it home and sit on my porch all day long polishing the bolt with impunity. I can go to PA and buy a 50 rd drum magazine or an AR with adjustable stock, pistol grip and bayonet with threaded muzzle and A2 Birdcage . What I CANNOT do is bring them home to NJ. BB/Pellet gun is 100% legal to purchase in PA and bring home to NJ. A Gammo Whisper though might cause problems. HOWEVER.... If the place I buy from in PA is not a multinational conglomerate (ie just a regular small privately owned business) and has a NJ FFL and a PA FFL, then the gun shop will probably not sell you something that could cause them to get dragged into court for any reason. Getting sucked into a long and expensive battle, even if the LGS knows they will win, is not worth the expense and aggravation. The further into PA you go, the less concerned a LGS will be about NJ pissing on their parade. Go to Carlisle and the LGS will not think twice about selling you a 50 rd mag, go to Philly or Allentown and you will be met with resistance. That's about how it is. The only time I ever flinched was when I was driving through South Carolina, on my way back to NJ, and considered buying a .177 pellet gun pistol at WM. NJ handgun laws are a whole other issue. Since I was not sure (and still unclear) about this, I put it back on the shelf.
  12. And that is exactly how the progressive liberal machine wants you to be. The dynamic is similar to domestic violence. Stand up for yourself and you will probably get a beating.
  13. As far as I know, a firearms PURCHASER ID is required only to buy a firearm in NJ. One is not legally required to have a FPID to simply own a firearm. If I go to a state where legal transfer of long guns is a simple matter of handing cash to someone and they hand me a long gun, all federal and state requirements (of that state) have been met. This is not just a dead horse, it's rotting now. I guess NJ residents are so used to firearms owners being persecuted that they simply cannot believe that BB guns are STILL just a toy. However, in defense of the bed wetters, getting pulled over with a bb gun without having a FPID would likely prove to be an expensive (albeit unnecessary) hassle.
  14. Are there any retailers in Monmouth that carry Baofeng or equivalent?
  15. Harbor Freight has one priced around $55.00. 20-60x60 spotting scope with tripod. It has average reviews mostly complaining about the tripod when extended. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=scope
  16. Ohio has it right. Full Story http://therighttobear.com/good-news-some-americans-might-be-allowed-to-conceal-carry-without-permit-soon/
  17. A few months ago I researched linear comps for a 14" M4gery build. Based on reviews mostly, Levang, Kies, Kaw and Claymore all seemed to be about the same. As best I can tell it comes down to which one you like the looks of the most.
  18. For all of the heritage guild haters, you clearly have not thought this through. HG operates in NJ and PA. If the PA location sold something illegal in NJ (like it or not) to a NJ resident then HG could be brought up on federal charges. If you don't like that fact, fine, but don't blame HG for protecting their business. mipa, nobody wants to see your dick under any circumstances..
  19. Here's some quots from a Time Magazine article. http://swampland.time.com/2012/11/05/does-the-military-vote-really-lean-republican/ I don't think there are many AD or vets who would oppose ccw, getting them to support it is another matter. Having the full weight of military voters behind this would provide some powerful political leverage. I'm not military so I would not feel right getting involved beyond making a donation to your legal fund. Someone needs to take the reigns on this now just to get the ball rolling. Keep us updated. Maybe contact GFH for some help getting the word out.
  20. Well, My first thought was a 22 would be less messy. 870 youth 20GA.
  21. I don't look at it as asking them to do it for us. What I'm saying is that if they want to do it for themselves, we ( the NJ gun owner community as a whole) will support them through crowd funding and moral support. A win for them is also a win for everyone. I bet a group of vets could easily muster 500 grand in donations for a legal fund. It's not like we'd have to go far to find vets in NJ, many of them are on some gun related forum. I believe many of them would jump at the chance to be a part of something big like this.
  22. 20+ vets in a class action suite like this could be super easy to put together. Nappan would probably get a big fat chubby over a case like this. It a pro 2A attorneys dream team of plaintiffs. As far as paying for it. Man this could be crowd funded, I'm sure if the vets stood up that many many NJ residents would support the case with crowd funding. A class action, crowd funded lawsuit to defend the 2A rights of vets. The antis would wet their pants.
