  1. Krdshrk: Any fatal construction accidents during the construction of your building that you are aware of.... Any Mob informants mixed into the concrete of your building's structure? You never know..... Just saying..... Our house was built in 1930 so it is just a matter of time before we experience something unnatural. AVB-AMG
  2. Krdshrk: You and I are next in line for some sort of paranormal event.... AVB-AMG
  3. Displaced Texan: Then you might as well consider her your home's Guardian Angel and make sure you keep up on the necessary house maintenance and cleaning..... Otherwise...... Hmmmmmm.........
  4. Displaced Texan: That is a chilling experience..... I believe you! Do you know if Theo died in her (your) house? By chance, had you recently eaten any of your favorite Texas brisket barbecue? We know that it's wonderful taste can sometimes produce delirious hallucinations in some diners..... AVB-AMG Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Nu2gunz: Plus, some of us enjoy provoking some of the folks in this forum to illicit a response, knowing full well that some will be quite adamant and explicit in espousing their particular point of view. We may be in the minority in this forum with some of our opinions but try not to loose your sense of humor. Debate is fun and intellectually healthy. I like to think that this type of dialogue is a learning experience for all of us, (who are willing to have an open mind and learn from each other). All the best! AVB-AMG

  8. FYI - here is a rather long-winded post I made last year on another blog/forum that I am a member of that addresses this topic: New Jersey, the state where I live, requires both front and rear license plates on all passenger vehicles, except for vehicles registered as 'historic', that are older than 25 years, which are required to only have one license plate mounted on the rear of the vehicle. All of my cars have rear license plates installed only, none on the front of the vehicles. I have had my 2014 BMW M6 Coupe as my daily driver since June of 2013 and like many of you, decided that drilling holes into the plastic bumper for installing a bracket, along with a my license plate on the front of my vehicle would be a major aesthetic blemish on the sleek front design of the car. Plus, I lease the vehicle so I am responsible for reparing any damage to it at the end of the lease. Also, I have not installed a front license plate on any of our vehicles since 2007 and have never had any problems about this issue with any Police officers in any state that I have traveled. The idea of the awful look, compounded by having to drill either 2 or 4 holes into the plastic front bumper is not appealing to me at all! Well, last summer I was finally pulled over by an LEO who asked me where my front license plate is? Specifically, it was a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) Police Officer who was manning a booth at the Manhattan entrance to the Holland Tunnel that leads to NJ. In what I must assume is a very boring post, he must find something to help pass the time and this issue is one that he probably looks for on many nice vehicles. In any event, he asked to see my paperwork, (Driver's License, Registration and Insurance ID Card), which I provided to him. He asked why I did not have a front license plate. I explained that I was waiting to receive the proper mounting bracket from my BMW Dealer and had the plate in the trunk of the car. I did not share with him that I had not requested that bracket from my Dealer (yet). He came back and said that since I have no infractions and my paperwork was in order that he would give me a warning, but that if he saw me again without a front license plate that he would issue me a ticket. Then, being the smart-ass that I can be, (yeah, some of you know I can have an attitude....), I asked why was he concerned about this since I was in New York City at this location and my car is registered in NJ. He said that PANYNJ Police enforce the traffic laws of both New York and New Jersey. I admit that he is technically correct regarding the law and that I have been lucky so far as to not have had any prior warnings or tickets about this issue. Yet it really does bug me that this is an issue at all. There are 17 states in this country that only require a rear license plate on passenger cars. E-ZPass cameras at most toll booths are positioned at both the front and rear of the toll-charging lane to record the license plate information of all vehicles passing through. Why is it really necessary to have two license plates, rear AND front....??? I have read that temporarily putting the front license plate on top of the dashboard facing out of the windshield is not acceptable, since most states that require front license plates on cars, (not trucks), have dimensional requirements that say it cannot be located more than 18 inches or so above the road level, or language along those lines and that the plate must be in the vertical position, perpendicular to the ground. I know that there are companies that sell license plate brackets that will screw into the front tow bolt socket so one does not have to drill holes into the plastic front bumper, but it still looks most unfortunate.... Also, there are some rather ingenious motorized devices that will, at the push of a button, lower and retract a front license plate under the front bumper, if there is enough clearance height from the ground to do so. While that may be an elegant solution, its costs is not something I can justify, plus my vehicle does not have the required ground clearance to make it work . So I will continue to motor along without a front license plate mounted on my vehicles
  9. If that were to happen then I can just imagine that only married LGBT couples will be allowed to have CCP's valid in all 50 states...... I have to believe that all of the gun manufacturers would love it....
  10. Congratulations Pizza Bob regarding your new granddaughter Maya... as well as to your son and his wife. Enjoy your role as a dotting and proud grandfather!
  11. 302W: Very funny...... But it has already been done... Back in 2012, racing yacht designer and technical director of Team Korea, Mr. Brett Bakewell-White designed and commissioned the 36-foot racing yacht called the Bakewell-White 36 General Lee sailing in Australia with this controversial paint job on its hull:
  12. Displaced Texan: Thank you for your articulate and thoughtful response. FYI - Here is a link to a previous posting I made yesterday in the other thread on this topic that also focuses on those elements: http://www.njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/77261-Confederate-Battle-Flag-Issue--It-is-about-time%2E%2E%2E%2E/page__view__findpost__p__979978
  13. For those of you who are open minded enough to read an entire article on this topic, here is a link to a well written one. It takes an objective view of the Confederate Battle Flag issue, something that many of you, and myself included, find difficult to do: From Vox.com on June 22, 2015 The Confederate flag symbolizes white supremacy — and it always has by Libby Nelson http://www.vox.com/2015/6/20/8818093/confederate-flag-south-carolina-charleston-shooting
  14. ABC Action News 6 from Philadelphia is reporting this: MANTUA, N.J. -- The National Weather Service will be out in New Jersey on Wednesday to see if there is any evidence tornadoes hit as strong storms blew through on Tuesday afternoon. They will look for specific patterns of damage that indicate tornado activity. They will focus on East Greenwich Township in Gloucester County.
  15. maintenanceguy: I agree with most of what you said, except for the absolute statement that “It’s not possible to sway someone who is anti gun….”. My experience over the past couple of years has been that more and more people who I know who have historically been anti gun, have evolved and modified their attitude and position to becoming more open to considering access to guns as well as gun ownership, as an important freedom to have and maintain, specifically for self or home defense. It may be a sad commentary on the real and/or perceived direction that our country is taking, but many peoples attitudes are changing. These people are not part of the vocal pro-2nd Amendment group, but are growing more accepting of their basic argument. I, along with most of my friends and co-workers do not see the world and many of today’s headline issues as being “black and white” or an “either/or” situation. We recognize the many shades of gray that are part of all of these issues and can take a reasoned rational perspective as opposed to one extreme or the other. Dare I say that this moderate approach is healthier in the long run…. I have suggested to several friends and relatives to join me at a gun range to shoot one of my handguns to see what it is about for themselves and to demystify what shooting a gun is like. In most cases, afterwards, they realize that they can do it quite easily and may even enjoy it, realizing the "fun" aspect of target shooting. My wife was anti-gun and after much discussion, was willing to join me at the range, where I paid for a private one-on-one lesson for her with a seasoned ex-military, retired LEO gun instructor, without me being part of the instruction. He had the appropriate approach and patience to teach her the basic and safe use of a 9mm hand gun, answering her many basic questions. It turned out that she is a very consistently accurate shooter and she discovered the competitive joy of accurate target shooting. Also, as most of us married guys know and understand, trying to teach our wives something, anything, can be met with a condescending or sarcastic attitude that is typical of many long-term husband/wife relationships and marriages. Therefore, having an expert, third-party instructor perform this important introduction to the proper and safe handling of a firearm was most prudent and money well spent, IMHO. Your basic point is well taken: Bring them the opportunity and then let them discover what a firearm is all about and you may be pleasantly surprised by the outcome. AVB-AMG
  16. It sounds like south Jersey got the brunt of the severe storm cells that came through late this afternoon and early evening. Driving out of Manhattan around 6:00 p.m. this evening and going west on Rt 78, was wet with a fair amount of pelting rain for and multiple lightning bolts for several miles and lasted about 15 mins, but that was it.... I hope nobody was seriously hurt in the more affected areas.
  17. I am brand-loyal to ExxonMobil and have been for over 10 years. I pay for my gasoline with either my E/M credit card or my E/M Speedpass on my keychain that is linked to my E/M credit card. I always pump my own gas at all E/M gas stations in New Jersey, as well as when traveling through other states and never have had any problems or issues with the station attendents of doing so. I prefer to pump my own gas, especially when some gas pumps prompt you to input your zip code, (associated with you billing address). It is easier and lets me pump the exact amount I want, rounding to the nearest one dollar amount preference.
  18. Grendel327: As one forum member's observation and opinion, I believe you have now received quite a few opinions from this forum and maybe it is now time for you to make some decisions on your own.... At what point do you decide for yourself what towns appeal to you, based on what you have heard from others, but more importantly, what you have learned and seen on your own, using your own list of priorities....? If you have not figured it out yet, everybody has an opinion, good and/or bad, about the town where they currently reside, as well as may have previously lived. As the old saying goes: "If you ask 10 people their opinion about something you will most likely get 10 different opinions....". Otherwise, if you are still not sure how to narrow down your search for a new home in some town in NJ, you may want to consider another option: That option is for each and all of us in this fourm, whom so desires to, will cast our "vote" as to what town in NJ you should move to. We can tally the votes and you will then be obliged to focus your house search in that community, ultimately taking away from you what is appearing to become a very challenging choice for you and making a final decision for you. Good luck!
  19. Grendel327: My wife and I moved from Manhattan to Summit, NJ back in the late 1990's. Part of the appeal of this town for us was and is: Close to Manhattan for commuting to my office. I drive in and out daily, and my commute varies depending on traffic, weather and construction/accidents beyond my control and takes anywhere from 45 mins. to 1 hr. 15 mins. Located in the fork formed by the juncture of Rts 78 and 24, Summit's NJ Transit train station is served by two commuter rail lines: the Morris & Essex Line and the Gladstone Branch, going to both NY Penn Station and the Hoboken Terminal, connecting to the PATH trains or the Ferry Service. The train trip to Manhattan is more consistent at just under one hour. Summit has a population of approx. 22,000 residents, that span the full economic spectrum, but is considered a "wealthy" suburban town, in the northwest corner of Union County. The public schools are very good, currently ranked as the 26th best in NJ. The mostly pre-war housing stock comes in diversified architectural styles, with most homes having been significantly renovated in the past 20 years. The real estate taxes are high, but not as high as they are in similar towns in Bergen County, such as Ridgewood or Upper Montclair in Essex County, (where I spent 12 years of my youth from elementary school to the start of high school. Our home was up the hill from Highland Ave. adjacent to the Mills Reservation County Park, ideal location for kids...). Summit has two Pharma companies with facilities in town that helps offset the real estate tax bill to its residents. Also, trash and recycleables collection, as well as municipal sewer system are included in our taxes. Summit is only a 15 min. drive from Newark Liberty Inter'l. Airport for the times you need and/or want to get out of the Garden State for either work or pleasure travel. My application for a Firearms ID Card took around 9-10 weeks to process. Subsequent Pistol Purchase Permits took between 10-12 weeks, primarly due to delayed responses from references, but not unresonable by comparison to some other towns. The majority of residents vote Republican, but we have had a good Democrat Mayor in the past decade. The downtown retail center offers interesting shopping and dining options, but parking is a PITA, as it is in most NJ towns. (EDIT) - I forgot to pass along a rumor that NY Giants Quarterback Eli Manning may be selling his Hoboken condo and buying a house in Summit.... Here is the link to the article: http://hoboken411.com/archives/76502 For these reasons, I suggest that you add Summit to the list of towns you check out and consider. Wherever you decide to move too I wish you all the best in your new home.... AVB-AMG
  20. It has been awhile since they were selling for around $25 / stick. Current pricing is around $35-$36 / stick. Pricey, but for 2-3 cigars a year, I will splurge.... Try one and see what you think... Consider it like buying a really nice cut of dry-aged prime NY Strip steak, which is in the same price range.
  21. Krdshrk: FYI - In the July 2015 edition of GUNS&AMMO magazine, starting on page 68, is an indepth review and tests of PolyCAse injection molded bullets. I think you will find their results most interesting..... They seem to be offering an interesting and viable alternative option to traditional brass cased, ball or HP bullets. AVB-AMG
  22. I am an infrequent, but avid cigar aficionado, who enjoys the relaxing and satisfying partaking in an occasional cigar. For the past dozen years I will buy and smoke 2-3 cigars a year, usually outdoors, complementing an appropriate glass of scotch, port or claret, depending on where I am and the time of year. Over this period, I have patronized Nat Sherman cigar store on 42nd St. and Fifth Ave. in Manhattan. After experimenting with a variety of cigars for the past 6-7 years I have settled on purchasing and enjoying the superb Nicaraguan-made Padron 80th Anniversary cigars 1926, either Natural or Maduro, (ring size:52; Length: 6. They are very expensive, but considering how infrequently I smoke them, I decided to splurge, buying individual sticks. I find that for my palate, the 80th Anniversary’s produce a very distinctive and enjoyable aroma, yet are also pleasantly smooth. AVB-AMG

    gun cleaning

I impale a cotton patch on a brass spear-tip jag on my rod and spray some M-Pro 7 Gun Cleaner on the patch before plunging and thrusting it through the barrel. That way I pick up most of the residue, more so than if the patch was dry. (I know that sounds like a rather dramatically muscle-flexing process....but if works for me).
  24. RootSki: I recently purchased a new CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow Custom 9mm (2014 model), by CZ Custom, to add to my diverse collection of 9mm handguns. It is probably my most consistantly accurate 9mm, partly due to its all metal construction and its corresponding weight. You may want to check it out as well. It is a bit more money than the tactical, but I am glad I decided to go that route... AVB-AMG
  25. Hi David: It sounds like we have similar shooting history's and I also happen to live in Summit. Shoot me a private message if you are interested in meeting and introducing ourselves. Sorry to hear that you are possibly leaving NJ, but I certainly can understand the many reasons to do so. All the best... AVB-AMG
