I've seen the same thing. Everyone I know who has a iPhone or iPad has complained about the connector/cable going bad. I'm still using the same Droid cable for at least 3+ years. Plus, it fits all types of other Android devices/phones, generic tablets, MP3 players, bluetooth speakers and many other items that charge from a USB cable. And, I've never paid one cent for any music I've downloaded, compared to iTunes.

Re-starting also pulls a lot of juice from the battery, so if you're doing a lot of short trips, where the battery isn't getting recharged each time, that can be an issue.
