Is there a restriction on how long I need to own a firearm before I can sell it?

 

I was told I need to own it for a year before I can legally sell it to a private party. Is this true?

As an individual, you can not buy a gun with intent to re-sell it.

 

If you change your mind, like something else better, need to raise cash for a new purchase, etc, these are all perfectly acceptable.

 

I've sold a gun 1 day after I bought it because it turned out not to be what I expected.

the year restriction is only if your an ffl and you sell a gun to yourself, then you can't resell it for a year
