ENGLEWOOD - A city man was charged Sunday in the stabbing death of one of his wife's relatives, authorities said.

Marco Antonio Guillen, 46, of West Englewood Avenue was being held Sunday night in the Bergen County Jail on $1 million bail. Guillen, a local landscaper, was also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said police responding to a 911 call found the victim, Darwin Villalta, 22, on the kitchen floor with stab wounds at 261 W. Englewood Ave. around 3:45 a.m. Sunday.

Officers were called to the home by a 14-year-old who repeatedly asked for police but did not say what the problem was, Molinelli said. When police arrived, they learned Guillen had allegedly attacked the victim, and he was arrested without incident, Molinelli said.

Police found a folding knife that's believed to have been used in the stabbing, Molinelli said.

Guillen, his wife, and three children, ages 11, 14 and 17, were in the house at the time, Molinelli said. The children did not witness the stabbing, but awoke and were present immediately after, he said.

Villalta, a relative of Guillen's wife who entered the country illegally several months ago from El Salvador, was staying at their house, police said.

Guillen is scheduled for a court appearance Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Superior Court in Hackensack.
