I managed to get my 1911 so dirty it wouldn't fire. It happened pretty quickly. First couple of magazines that day, had one or two FTF's (never happened before). Then suddenly, the trigger would not release the hammer, as if the safety was still engaged. This was probably at around the 800-rounds-since-last-cleaning mark. Put it away, shot something else for the rest of my hour. Took it home, took it apart, cleaned everything and now it seems to work fine. Is 800 alot? A little? Is Federal American Eagle really dirty? I have no idea. But there you have it.

Reaching a happy middle ground.

With this cleaning stuff.

Looks like the Federal 22 is the way to go as far as clean

ammo for my Sig 522. Fouls much less around the chamber.

Look for crud in that area and clean if needed. Otherwise throw a little

oil after 500 rounds and you can go 1,000 rounds without having too much

grit buildup. Have around 6,000 rounds through it and it looks like new.

No wear marks anywhere. Mobile 1 oil seems to be the way to go.

Grease does not work too well fouls pretty badly and attracts the grit.

Marlin bolt action almost never have to clean. Quick wipe and a good cleaning

every 400 rounds? That is a guess. Again not much to clean.

Ruger MKIII. Good cleaning 750-1000 rounds otherwise similar scenario to the Sig 522.

So I clean the parts that move and rub. Otherwise I'm not too concerned.

If I leave the residue on for a week or two I don't see any corrosive effect.

Ruger probably has 3000 rounds through it and looks and shoots like new.

That sucker I cleaned more than I needed just to get it to come apart easier.

Picked up a Stag Arms Model 8. It’s a piston type.

That is my type of gun. Have about 260 rounds through it and nothing to clean.

I can eat off that thing. That is with Silver Bear ammo. Real freaky. I want to clean that one but it just does not get dirty. No grit. Not even where there is oil.

One other thing. It's a big difference in terms of time when you take one gun to the range

as opposed to taking 3-4 guns. Even if you spend 10 minutes per gun it's 40 minutes.
