Changing hearts and minds, where to begin.

Recommended Posts

On forums like these, everyone supports the 2nd Amendment.

IMHO, we need to reach out to those who are opposed to it, both groups and individuals.

Most of us are familiar with the talking points: gun control doesnt work, these laws only serve to disarm law abiding citizens, etc.

Not much member activity here but we could change that: https://www.facebook...?_fb_noscript=1

Per this article (http://www.nj.com/hu..._gun_contr.html), Mandi Perlmutter, is from the NJ chapter.

I may reach out to some of the people in this piece: http://articles.phil...n-gun-proposals

In Camden - which saw a record 67 homicides last year, and where many shootings are committed with illegally obtained handguns...

Derp.

Ever talk to someone from JC, Camden or Newark? I have, and theyre very receptive to polite conversation. A point which really seems to resonate with them is in regards to illegal drugs. While guns are legal, ALL drugs are illegal, yet anyone can obtain them...

Any other groups or individuals that we could approach?

seems like both groups have the same goal...to stop the crime and killing....when I was at the statehouse on monday, there seemed to be a chasm between our groups....part color and culture...gunners seem to be a lot less sociable....but I think if more blacks got into legal firearms and were helped to learn to use them safely, we could have a new ally.....the liberal whites are pretty much hopeless I think.

Uhuru might be a start....they work in the black community, but they dont take any shit from whites, which could make them a great ally......get an Uhuru shooting range going and help with getting permits.....

i've been thinking about this a lot lately, and i have come up with 1 group we could ally with, although i'm not sure them and us can see eye to eye on a lot of things. it's the gay people. now before you get all huffy, i don't mean you have to paint your AR pink and wear a feather boa and hang out in gay clubs or anything. gays typically have a lot of spare time and money due to rarely having children. a small portion of gays probably think of us as all Fudds and rednecks, but most have probably never been shooting and that's why they wouldn't be into guns. yes most gays are liberal as hell, but wouldn't it help to have some of them rooting for us? if we support them in the gay marriage thing (which is inevitably happening anyway), they could support us. i.e. "we support your right to get married, but you won't support our right to bear arms?" add to that a general distrust of govt now (due to the bans on gay marriage), and we could have an ally that would show we are not all just hardcore repubs, trying to regulate everyone else's rights, while at the same time fighting for our own. this all came up because i went to school with a friend who turned out to be gay, and he was curious about shooting and gun rights - liberal, but makes up his own mind about things. i even looked up info for him about firearms and found this website for gay gun owners. http://pinkpistols.org/
