2016.02.29 Ammo "Emergency" test...

Recommended Posts

Due to a certain vendor (*koff* Freedom Munitions *koff*) having a special sale today only, I decided I needed to run out to the range and "test" some various loads I'd procured but hadn't had the chance to run.  Here's a run down of my "quickie" for the day.

NOTE: All shots taken at a distance to target of 10 meters, standing, at a moderate to brisk pace, full 15 round magazines except for the last 5 of the box obviously.  No rests or aids were used.

Ammo:

Freedom Munitions

9mm 135gr Reman

PN: FM9F135R

Lot #:151018325409-222-219

Rounds: 50

Distance to target: 10meters

Firearm: H&K P30 9mm v3 (096)

note: I shot this ammo previously, albeit with a different firearm last time.  See https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?18026-Freedom-Munitions-FM9F135R for that review.

This has been looking like my go-to round for a while that seems to work well in everything I own.  This was also the first 50 rounds I shot for the day.

I still like the recoil impulse and how fast I get back on target with this round.

This is their "SuperMATCH" ammo and supposed to be more accurate than anything else they make.  At least for me and this firearm, i'm not feeling it.

Recoil... I've shot worse.  Mostly I was just disappointed on how inaccurate it seemed.  First string of 15 I was falling low and right (i'm left handed, FYI) and had to dial in a little Kentucky Windage to get it somewhat on target.

This was a box given to me by a friend I introduced to shooting.  I decided to take it and shoot it up because, why not.

Recoil impulse is definitely harsher; ammo has more "bark" and "bite" to it than your average FMJ load from Freedom Munitions.  HOWEVER... That accuracy.  If it weren't for the fact it's $356/1000 (vs. the $219/1000 for the FM9F135R) I'd have to give it serious consideration as my ammo of choice for shooting matches.

note: the round count is only 45 as I let a friend who was with me shoot the other 5 so he could feel the difference between the 135R and some 115R I had with me.

I brought this and the next .38special load out to see if a) 125gr was at least as accurate as 158gr, and b) to see if 125gr was nicer to shoot. :)  It is on both counts in my opinion.

I'd had shot the full boxes of .38special myself but again I had a friend with me and I had to share. :)

Overall I'll be buying more of the FM9F135R and FM38F125R today.
