  1. There is a difference between being mentally ill and evil. I also realize there are many that think the evil can be rehabilitated and lump them with the mentally ill. Perhaps you'd like camps established for them where they are required to wear six pointed stars of different colors to identify their "problem". We could come up with economical ways to eliminate them. I think this was tried before.
  2. I could be wrong but there are a few issues being repeated here that are not being accurately described. Aitken was charged with possession of the handgun, high capacity magazines, and hollowpoints. 3 charges. Christie did not pardon Aitken. That would make it all go away. No conviction, no record. Christie commuted Aitken's sentence which means he went to jail long enough. He is still a convicted felon. The possession of the handgun and high capacity magazine charges were overturned on appeal. IIRC, the gun possession charge was overurned as the judge failed in the original trial failed to properly instruct the jury regarding the moving exemption. They didn't rule Aitken was moving, they threw out the conviction based on the fact the jury was not properly instructed. The magazine conviction was overturned as there was no testing proving the magazines would feed continuously. The hollowpoint charge was upheld as Aitken was not transporting it under one of the exemptions listed in the law. There was no deal struck. Courts never ruled that Aitken was moving. The NJ hollowpoint law has no exemption for moving. However, this moving with hollowpoints never came up until the Aitken case. I have never heard of anyone else being chrarged with possession of hollowpoints while moving. This is right there with all the people in NJ who have been arrested for that single hollowpoint bullet in their trunk or the dummy round with the hollowpoint bullet on their keychain. Yes there is no exemption for transporting hollowpoints while moving but actually being charged with it and it alone pretty much seems like a non-issue.
  3. Let us first address this often repeated "gun is a tool" phrase. Guns were not invented to cut wood or drill holes although they have been used for those purposes. Guns were invented and developed to increase the efficiency of warfare. Guns were invented to kill. Used the right way there is nothing wrong with that. Man has had valid need for weapons since he had to pick up a rock and a stick. Their use for hunting evolved from their availability due to warfare. Paperpunching and other forms of competition came about as a way of developing and demonstrating skill. Nothing wrong with that. Cars were developed for transportation and are used for racing. When someone claims guns are dangerous I quote Jeff Cooper who said "of course they are they would be useless if they weren't". Cars still kill a lot more people than guns worldwide. Cars are necessary to have and so are guns. Guns used in battle are a very different thing than suicide guns. Its nearly impossible to find a milsurp used in battle in pristine condition. Let's say a M1 used in Normandy was dragged through the salt water, dropped, and generally banged around a lot. Any availabile time spent maintaining it was spent on functioning not appearance. Documenting a specific gun was used in a specific battle is also close to impossible as such records were not kept. As far as being used to kill reread irishpeteswife post #20. Still don't understand? I'll go a bit further. If you are in combat trading shots with the enemy, your cause is not flag and country. Its keeping you and your buddies alive. To many who have not done so they can't understand why someone would jump on a grenade. That's commitment to keeping your buddies alive. A firearm that was used by a soldier to keep him or her and their buddies alive by killing the enemy is a totally different thing than a suicide weapon. I can understand and deal with what a milsurp was used for whether it was used by us, an ally, or an enemy. If you don't understand the difference between a milsurp and a suicide weapon I don't know how else I can describe it. To me saying a gun is "badass" because someone used it for a suicide is kind of sick. Just my opinion.
  4. If you notice there is mention of a domestic violence charge in the linked article. That most likely has a lot to do with it.
  5. Easy transaction. Merchandise as described. Nice to do business with.
  6. However the residue from the blood attracts moisture and causes more corrosion than water. You may be correct or the gun had an artery squirting all over it as the guy bled out.
  7. You guys got to remember this is the US Senate. A federal Senator has no direct impact on NJ state laws.
  8. Any step in the right direction, no matter how small, is a good thing. I would vote for Clarabelle if he were running against Menendez.
  9. Looks like this guy will be staying in PA.....for at least the next 20 years.
  10. Most likely wasn't using a holster.
  11. You can carry anywhere in the US with some restrictions. You must have a photo ID issued by your agency. This is why you must read the Federal law and CA state law. There are some gray areas and it is best to treat these as prohibitions rather than get in trobule. For CA in summary you must abide by: 1. Can carry hollowpoints. 2. Restrict magazine capacity to no more than 10 rds. 3. Carry in national and state parks but in naional parks you can't carry in buildings where Park Service employees do business. 4. No carry in places that primarily serve alcohol as their primary business. 5. No drinking alcohol anywhere when carrying (leave the gun in the car if you do a winetasting). 6. No carry in Federal buildings, state courthouses, schools, or demonstration. 7. Carry a copy of your qualification record not over a year old for the "type" of gun you are carrying. This is something usually overlooked but is a requirement under LEOSA. This isn't everything so you must read both laws. Might sound complicated but it isn't. PM me with any question you think I can help with.
  12. That's because this is America and that's the way its always been. Regionalized policing has been hashed around since the 70s. No one and I'm talking the citizens here doesn't want to give up their turf. The prsent system is better than say just a national and state police.
  13. Who cares what color they wear? Black and navy get hot in the summer. Maybe people will be happy if they wore pink? You want them to wear a dress uniform? All I know is when I was on a police dept I ruined about one pair of uniform pants a month on the average at $40 a pair when I was clearing $200 a week and $250 a year uniform allowance. I would have welcomed a cheaper alternative.
  14. What's the difference if you use tetrachloroethylene if its in a can with Gunscrubber or Brake Kleen on the label? The only way you're going to get that cruddy Hoppes out of the nooks and crannies of a slide or action is to give it a bath in solvent and blow it out with compressed air or use something like tetrachloroethylene in a spray can. Its also useful if your gun is soaked from the rain or has been totally immersed in water. WD40 to displace the water and Gunscrubber or Brake Kleen to flush out the WD40.
  15. I missed the link about him being a convicted drug dealer. Hang him. I don't care.
  16. You are "suspected" until found guilty in court. "Suspeced" is the proper term at this point. Once he's arraigned it would be charged. A standard of probable cause was met to get the search warrant and to make the arrest. I'm reserving judgement on this until there is more info on this. Too many people on gun forums don't do our cause any good by always jumping to the defense of anyone arrested for firearms violations. We'll see if he's just an avid collector who someone didn't like, guilty of possessing a deadly Marlin model 60 with a 18 rd tube magazine or supplying Al Qaeda with FA weapons and RPGs or something in between.
  17. As Smokin 50 said you need to assess what you want to use the gun for. The 5.7 is a viable SD cartridge. Other than that there are much better choices that can fulfill multiple uses. IIRC there is only one manufacturer of factory ammo so that limits your choices as well as reloading components. Ammo is also expensive compared to virtually every other handgun caliber. The round has been around for about 10 years and outside of specialized LE and military applications doesn't have a big following. I take it you are talking about a SIG Scorpion which is a 1911 style pistol. Without going any further I'd say this is a much better choice for all the reasons the 5.7 isn't. What other handguns do you have?
  18. This is true. However don't expect the Postal Inspectors to launch an investigation if you lose a few hundred dollars. Its not that they wouldn't want to but every office I've dealt with has no shortage of major narcotics, kiddie porn, and multi million dollar mail fraud cases and only so many Inspectors to handle the deluge. I'm not saying not to report it to them as there are times they'll make a phone call and the guy who screwed you will be convinced to settle up.
  19. This is not really unusual for the CBP inspectors. Its a pita for them to fill out the form and collect the duty unless its substantial. On maybe a dozen cruises I had to pay for my excess cigarettes once and it was about $1.80 a carton. You can often get your booze, smokes, watches, and other cheaper in some ports than you can on the ship. St Maarten is one one these places. A few year ago got his and her Movados (the real thing not Moovados) gold plated case, leather strap, MSRP at the time $425 each for $300 for the pair.
  20. I'm aware of this. Gunscrubber came out with synthetic safe with the proliferation of plastic parts in firearms. The endorsement from Glock was with the original Gunscrubber. I've used the tetrachloroethylene on Glocks with no ill effects. However, you're probably bett off using the synthetic safe so you don't have to worry.
  21. FWIW I went to a seminar a few years ago and Glock was endorsing the use of Gunscrubber which IIRC has tetrachloroethylenne as its active ingredient. Last I looked CRC in the red can is the same stuff and what I use.
