  1. I am only speaking from experience with my Beretta, but Promag is generally known to be an inferior magazine. They are , at best, a range-only magazine. One of the guys at Shore Shot gave me a NIB ProMag Cougar mag he had laying around. The gun turned into a jam-o-matic. After that I looked up ProMag on the Beretta forum and the near universal consensus is that they are junk. YMMV.

Commander and Government models are based on the same frame but have different length slides and barrels. The Government slide is 5". The Commander slide is shorter (4" ?). The Officer model is based on a smaller frame, and has the smaller slide and barrel. Reliability-wise, the Government and Commander have always been known as top-notch.

Talk about lashings... Here come the Kimber-lovers to get me. I like Colts and have a Gold Cup Trophy that I really enjoy shooting, but think you could get a better gun for the money with Dan Wesson, STI or Springfield. I have not been impressed with the Kimbers I have shot. To me they are the Absolut vodka of the handgun world. A mediocre product hiding behind good marketing, fancy packaging and a high price tag.
  4. My new, bone stock (for now), Colt Match Target
  5. Here it is. Fun to shoot. Low recoil but sounds like a mild 357 when you pull the trigger. I need a little training on zeroing the sights. Man that Remington UMC ammo stinks like ammonia when you shoot it.
  6. Glad to hear it. Keeping it "clean" is one thing. Acting like I'm in church is another. 8-)
  7. I hope you're kidding Chad. That exchange barely qualified as innuendo. There was never actually anything "dirty" said. It's all in how you decided to interpret it.
  8. Even more questions... The 22LR Upper conversion kit from Spike Tactical comes with a threaded barrel. If they put on a a permanently attached cav comp break, does that circumvent the NJ threaded barrel rule? The rule is there to prevent a flash suppressor from being mounted. If a compensator is permanently mounted in place of the suppressor (which normally comes with the Spike unit), does that qualify?
  9. Here you go. http://www.coltsmfg.com/products-c6-q9- ... fles.aspx#
  10. Thanks. I spoke with Paul from Arms-and-Ammo and am going with the Colt 6400C, which is legal in NJ.
  11. Below is the link for the Colt 6920. It has a Muzzle Compensator. It also says that it has a birdcage style flash hider. http://www.colt.com/law/lecarbine.asp If I pin the stock, is this gun legal in Jersey? I know that Compensators are OK but that Flash Suppressors are not. Is a birdcage-style flash hider considered a suppressor?

    Glock vs Sig vs CZ

I went through a few Glocks before I found my latest, a G34 (i.e. tactical longslide) in 9mm. This size fits my hand perfectly. My previous guns never did quite fit right. The Glock has a wide and long grip. The 21SF and 20SF are slightly narrower than the standard version, but not enough to make a significant difference if you have stubby fingers like me. One positive aspect of the grip width is that it spreads recoil out more evenly across your hand. I have fired full 10mm loads in a Glock and in a 1911. There is a huge difference. The Glock is much softer.
  13. I am sure I will catch grief for this but... I have not been impressed with the Kimbers I have shot. To me they are the Absolut vodka of the handgun world. A mediocre product hiding behind good marketing, fancy packaging and a high price tag.
  14. Everybody loves Pythons. The double action trigger pull on them is unparalleled. Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer gunsmiths that know how to work on Colt revolvers. They will shoot themselves out of time if you insist on running tons of magnum ammo through them. I would only put 38 special though a Python. I think it can handle them forever. That is one reason I went with my S&W Highway Patrolman and Model 27.
  15. I purchased my new Glock 34 at Lawmen Supply up in Paterson. The guys there were great. I bought night sights and they installed for free. I went there because they are the GSSF licensed dealer in New Jersey, and Paterson is closer to me than the Egg Harbor office. They are the biggest Glock dealer in NJ, so apparently they get guns before other dealers do. I can't verify that though. I would happily do business with them again.
  16. Will locking cabinets keep anyone but an inquisitive child out of them?
  17. I need a gun safe for my house. I have a small collection of pistols (7) and a few rifles (3), and would need all but my SHTF piece to fit in there. I would like to spend under $300 if possible. Any suggestions? I live in Atlantic Highlands (next to Sandy hook) and am willing to drive and pick it up or order it over the internet and have it delivered. There have been a few burglaries in the nearby neighborhood and I want my guns to remain mine.
  18. It was $18.75 for members. I think it was $21 for non-members. Don't quote me on that one though.
  19. I was at Shore Shot on Sunday. Boxes of 9mm ammo are down to $18.

    browning BDA...

maksim, I noticed that the BDA is in .380. I thought I'd mention it since 9mm is the more common caliber for that gun.

Take a look at the Dan Wesson 1911's. You can get one for around your price. You can also get a nice Colt Gold Cup for that money. The Springfield Loaded is nice too. I had one in 9mm. It's a little less than $1100 (at least when I bought mine it was). You have options. Don't feel like you have to go out and buy a Les Baer or a Wilson Combat $2K (or more) gun to have a quality 1911. Of the ones I have mentioned, I think the Dan Wessons give you the most for your money.
  22. Bud's Gun Shop. I have dealt with them several times and I would do so again. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/index.php Good points Great prices. Hard to find comparable elsewhere. Only CDNN beats them. Often have free shipping. Bad Points Charge high "restocking" fee ($40) if you change your order. Takes a few days for the gun to get out their door.
  23. +1 on them being grouchy. I like the range but had bad experiences with the staff at the gun counter. There were definitely no bargains to be had there (unless you compare them against today's prices I guess). I went there to see an HK P2000 I was interested in. I handled it, expressed my desire to buy one, then informed them I'd be purchasing it elsewhere. Sometimes I can be that way.
  24. I have been to the Sayreville Sportsman many times. I might go there to see a gun in person if I knew they had it in stock, but would not buy it there. I have never seen a store where customer service meant so little. After the last experience of waiting for ten minutes in plain view of the sales staff and being ignored, I decided I would never give them a dime of my money. Also, their prices are not competitive at all. I would recommend getting on the parkway and driving down to exit 89 to see both ShoreShot Pistol Range and Brick Armory. They are only a couple of miles away from each other. I am a member at Shore Shot. I like the owners and staff, and their gun prices are reasonable. I haven't been to Brick Armory, but I hear mostly good stuff about them.
