I am considering purchasing a long gun from a NJ resident / individual (not an FFL). My understanding is that FTF transfer of compliant long guns is legal in NJ. This of course assumes that the buyer and seller both have a FID and matching DL. If FTF transfer is made in NJ, i.e., local buyer and seller, is there a requirement for some type of registration by the buyer, either at local or state level? Does seller have to do anything specific? If "registration" is not done, does the gun remain "registered" in seller's name? If so, that would not be good ... Advice please.

This sounds interesting. This state is pissing us off, so maybe an X across the NJ logo would be a statement! I may buy one once I see the final sample. btw. Why is a transfer and NICs involved if this is just the lower without the trigger guts? Is this considered a weapon by dumb asses in NJ!? We can buy HP ammo in NJ, so why do you say HP are a no, no in NJ? btw. I may be interested in trade for the 9mm FMJ bullets (maybe 1K or 2K) I can trade ammo: .30-06 (Remington - only 2 boxes), Wolf 7.62x39, or 223 PM me if interested.

The Program started in the depression era, but still continues, as congress loves to spend our money (no shirt off their backs). (I don't want to get into the section 8 program itself; that's separate subject.) Illegal persons should not be permitted (using loopholes) to make use of the section 8 housing and should be deported. Immediate deportation of illegals can be implemented without incurring substantial cost. Without getting creative, send them back to the local embassy (of the country of origin), publicize it, and let them deal with it. Embassy not willing to cooperate? Well, we should ask them to pack up and leave. Most well meaning embassy's charter includes this function, if not it should be demanded as a prerequisite to establish an embassy. Is there a political will? It can come only from the people, by way of our vote. Hopefully, you have some real choices at the district level. In a sense, we already do. It's called Section 8 housing provided for by the fed.

I came to US in 1981 - legally, and I have contributed to the GDP of this country, but I have paid (more than fair) share of taxes due to the illegal population. My thoughts on this subject are very clear cut and I will not beat around the bush for political correctness. English as the one official language. There is no need for a 2nd "official" language. Yes, we are a nation built by immigrants, but that doesn't mean it should be allowed to be a nation of illegal immigrants! Illegals should be deported immediately. So what, if they come back again? Deport them again - that's what it takes to enforce the law. The cost of deportation is exaggerated; in the long run it costs less. I find immigration "reform" to be complete BS (well, politics of votes!); it's an oxymoron at best. What about children of illegals? (They automatically become citizens if they were born here.) Adoption is the only viable and realistic option. We don't want the kids to suffer (not their fault), but neither do we want them to become wards of the state. Illegal parents can apply for immigration like anyone else (no lotteries, jumping the queue, and other such nonsense), but in the meantime they must return back to the country of origin. I know that's tough, but enforcing the laws is what will reform the chaos. This has nothing to do with the constitution; it's fine the way it's. Finally, I don't want my hard earned money to be sucked into (more and more) fed, state and local taxes to pay for services to illegals. In many cases, illegals have it better than legals when it comes to services. Look at the "health care reform", another mess! In part, illegals contribute to the complexities in devising a fair solution. Whatever happened to free and fair market system? What next? We will buy a house for a person who can't afford to buy one - at tax payers' expense!? There are many other aspects to this, but I have focused on the fundamentals.

Don't mean to hi-hack the thread, or to start a flaming war ... but it's all about politics, so here goes. (Admin: feel free to move post.) This is all coming down to Democrats Vs. republicans in NJ. Half the country (approximately), leans to one party or another (depending on the 4 year term and economy), but it seems NJ is already becoming a commie state (next to Kali). Unfortunately, I have to live in NJ for few years (kids born here), then I am out of here, but till then ... Both parties have "true" politicians, so it comes down to which party supports gun owners' rights. Why not vote republican and see what happens? (No, I haven't voted for either party, so don't ask me.) ps: Now we have a republican governor, so let's see.

VT is the true consititutional state guys! Next up is NH (live free or die - I love the slogan) Unfortunately, it's damn cold and there are very few people :roll: I also need some sunshine at least for 6 months in a year for motorcycle riding (not that NJ helps). Was at Shore Shot today. Bought a new Ruger GP100 (.357/.38), 6" blue for $510 - good deal. Today, Shore Shot was willin to sell me a Sig556 SCM for less than 1450 (that's the price at other places), but I want a better deal :mrgreen: Kyle, the surfer dude, is going to tell me next week what price he can sell for. If less than 1400 I will buy it. btw. that place has 3% sales tax, so you can save few bucks.

I am considering the 556 SWAT ... I know the SCM model is legal in NJ and maybe the Classic, but I like the SWAT more for it's HG, FG and light! I am guessing that the folding / adjustable stock can be pinned (for the right LOP) and make it legal in NJ. Then, replace 30 rnd with 10 or 15 rnd mags ... What else did I miss? What gun shop to inquire in NJ for the least price + tax?

I see the price now ... thanks. Great mod if it works as advertised. It's not clear if the top rail and HG are included in the price. If not, that's a hefty price just for the stock. (To make it 922 compliant, one would need to add HG, gas piston, etc.) Also, noticed that the barrel length looks shorter than 16" (not legal) ...
