  1. I probably post stuff that you already know - BUT - Have you been watching the current show with George Reinas, USAF, member at Dix 14. He is the large red one, weight lifter and all. Nice guy to talk to. Maybe a little cocky on the show - maybe part of the act.
  2. ***************************** I took a quick look. That is amazing. I will take April off and read it!! LOL
  3. Wow! Is there a length record for these forum topics?? Are we setting one now?? Non answer - by the time the cops get to your house your family is already raped and killed. Answer - Federal Hydra Shok 40SW Over & out.
  4. Mr. Ax, I did Sat/Manheim last fall. Will go this summer maybe June in NJ - hopefully both days. Do you know how/if/when you get to shoot at 300 or more (if the range has it available of course). This is a great program. Thanks.
  5. **************************************** Yes understood. Thanks for the input. BUT: When you buy an SGL they call it a Saiga. When you read the SGL manual it is called a Saiga. So sometimes a Saiga is not a Saiga.
  6. *********************************** Dan, You may/may not know or care. You can shoot a Saiga AK variant or AR or other at Appleseed but the ammo cost will be painfull. It's mostly all at 25 yards - rarely longer. You can use a scope. No bipods. Reply for more useless info. LOL.
  7. ********************************** OK. It is clear. My post got an F-. None of my %$#^ stuck to the wall. I will just have to practice my blogging - ooops sorry this is not a blog. LOL.
  8. I love this forum and thought I would throw more &*^% on the wall and see what sticks. Thanks to all you guys for previously educating me. However The Saiga thing can be confusing. Did you know you could shoot a Saiga with your Saiga over in Mongolia? (sorry) PART I My rifle is an SGL24 762x39 Saiga Arsenal Izvesk Izmash Legion sporterized AK. Yah too much info but mostly required to really know what it is. Being a little slow and not knowing about 15 round mags I bought 2 ea 10 round KVAR/Arsenal mags and zap they were installed. After the light went on I bought 2 ea SUREFIRE 15 rounders. NO WAY these would insert!! I observed the differences, did a little cutting/filing and now they go in just fine. The front tab was too big and was blocked out by the bullet guide (which a Saiga does not have, right?) Also the rear corner was too wide to slide in. So tell me you have a "Saiga" and I have no clue what you have. SURFIRE told me that Arsenal jumped on the Saiga name bandwagon very late. So that may be the real source of my confusion. Otherwise you have EAA Saiga, RAA Saiga, WASR's, milsurp mags, factory mags and more. PART II Now I will buy some metal milsurp 15/30 pinned mags. I ASSUME they will fit my SGL.......... without any mods. Here's the question. When the LEO takes me to the Judge, will he love my mags? As in - what pin? they are 30 period - you could put bubble gum in there, or a stick and they are still 30. Reason + logic = 0 in NJ. Dunky Shine to all.
  9. **************************************** raden, hows come you dont like da 40? ya, you guessed it - i have a 40. thanks
  10. Ok first I gotta look up 'blog'. Sorry about that. Obviously I don't know a post from a blog or a whatever but not sure I care either. HA! You turn on the computer, start typing and that's it. If you build your own I can only say 'more power to ya' and I mean it. You are savings bucks but better, you are getting some great value. The inside/out knowledge is invaluable. I'm probably too lazy to do the research, get it right and do the work. Up to a point I love to tinker. I also have trouble sorting legal fact and fiction on this blog/forum/post. The careful detailed answers are appreciated!! Have a good one!
  11. The hourly/daily/weekly/monthly posts about AK legal/not legal go on into infinity. So buy one off the shelf and go to the range already.
  12. Hi to All, I guess if it were not for Saiga conversions this blog would be pure dead. Cut and paste is great idea. Lots of stuff just turns over and over and over. So apparently I am a fool for buying a Saiga SGL24 (can you say AK?) at Shore Shot for ~$750. I aint rich but am guilty as charged. But here is the deal. Off the shelf: OK in NJ Nine foreign parts Not on the forbidden model list Only one evil feature - PG. Better: Nice finish; rivets are perfect; factory scope bracket; black furniture; mag indents perfect; chromed. Made at Izmash factory, Russia and Arsenal Las Vegas. Factory inspected and test fired. I will say this--- my SKS was kinda like a real rifle. The AK is lighter, smaller, plastic furniture, looks a little like a toy!! HA. But it will do the damage as required. If an SKS detachable mag were NOT illegal I would not have the AK. That all fits the KISS idea for me. Also you can get a milled AK made over in PA for ~$800; sold OK in NJ. Don't know the quality. Details if you want them. almiz111
  13. I have the itch to buy a Mosin and am mostly unqualified to judge quality. One special unknown is 'counterbore'. Can you help with how/why/when/where?????? Is it basically a rebore of 1/4 in. of the muzzle end? Is it only done to well worn barells?? I am guessing it is to be avoided at all cost. Thanks, Al
  14. Hey Vlad, Thanks for both answers. You da Man! Al
  15. Can you help out a dummy? What / why /how / when is a bullet guide? Also I read that Surefire 15 mags have a last round hold open feature. How is that a feature of the mag? So what happens when it's empty, held open and you yank the mag?? Slam forward? Stay held?? Thanks, Al
  16. This was asked in a previous post but got buried in the responses - it sometimes happens HA. So I want a scope mount over the dust cover. There are tons of them out there - side mount, rear sight mount, etc. Which one(s) are stable - hold zero - reasonable cleaning procedure. (would rather NOT have a scout over the gas tube) Which gun?? Any - Saiga, IO, WASR10. Thanks, Al
  17. tuktuk - if you getta chance see my post at nj guns laws. thanks. al
  18. I've been shopping for an AK clone. It appears that NJ has an HO for AK clones. However I can buy all the AR15 I want. Both types do the same thing but with a different caliber. And they are probably built in a different country. QUESTION ONE: So does anybody know the story with CERTAINTY?? What gives in NJ? AK???????????? AR15???????????? Background: 1. Butch's in Vineland has WASR10 and IO on the shelf. 2. Cheyenne was selling IO and was harrassed by the State Cops to recall all IO. Now they have no IO and I was told today that they are not messing with no AK clones of any brand no way no how. 3. There is a Saiga SGL24 'on line' that claims approved for NJ, NY. What gives? And QUESTION TWO: You buy an AK clone and the Cops challenge you. The dealer told you OK IN NJ. What do you do then?? Appreciate your help. AlMiz
  19. Just an update. Factory switched my plates/springs into new housings and all was fine. My metal with new plate/spring was NFG. They say they are still fiding the exact reason for all this!! Anyway I also carefully re installed the large backstrap and all 4 mags are now fine. So my son buys a Cx4 and has a sticky mag!! Oh well. Thanks.
  20. Help I am lost. Arsenal Inc web site says a Saiga SGL24 is ok for NJ and pic shows a pistol grip?? So why modify? While I am at it -what about the EAA Zapasta or whatever? Thanks.
  21. Questions: How do you get a scope on these? Meaning a solid mount that holds zero. I can live with regular or scout. Thanks.
  22. OK boys I had a previous post looking for a semi 308, maybe FNAR, PTR, etc. So I found that I do not want to afford the rifle or the ammo. I have an SKS and like it a lot but I turned it into an abortion - scout scope mounted on rear sight. I still like it a lot but want something else similar. You cannot beat the beautifull simplicity of the SKS piston drive. So what do I get legal for NJ (would you suggest anything else? HA)? Piston drive; chrome barrell; handgrip. OK on an AK but I need a very stable scope mount - regular or scout doesn't matter to me. Which specific AKs? Any AR variations out there that avoid the scope mount mods? Price under $1000. Scope extra. Please no 223. I want to punch holes in paper with it at 200. That's my story. Thanks. (Does this post belong in the AR section???????????????????)
  23. Yep, all shipped from Beretta. Thanks.
  24. I am with you all and appreciate the help. However once the large backstrap is in, it will eject two mags and NOT eject two others. I'll let you know what the factory says. Thanks, Al
