You're right, not all cars are the same. I wasn't making that comparison. Volkswagen charges about $100 to change a cabin filter on my car, and I can do it for $12-13 and literally 3 mins of my time. Hell, I think Volkswagen charges $100 just to walk in the service center. Lol

I forgot to mention, I use the Z360 sling mounts by Tactical Link, as well as their convertible slings. Not cheap, but inexpensive for the quality you get.

I don't think its stupid to do your own work. It's well within my skill set, and to use your comparison, I'm paying myself instead of someone else. I don't find that stupid at all. Again, I'm not knocking local auto shops. I know a good local shop I trust that I will send my wife to, if I'm out of town on a business trip.

I'm a function guy. I won't add anything to any of my firearms that don't address a specific need, perform a desired function, or solve a problem. Gunfighter charging handle, for instance. I have broken a stock mil spec charging handle once before. The BCM is considerably stronger, and I like the larger latch with an optic equipped rifle. BCM grip is a comfort issue for me, I find that the steeper angle is more comfortable on my wrist when I'm carrying the rifle all day. Some guys like the 'Barbie Doll for men' aspect of the AR rifle, in the respect they like to add and change accessories at will. No problem with that, your rifle, your $$. Changing thing for me, at least, has to have a purpose, other than just for the hell of it.

Believe me, I'm not ripping on local garages. Most of you guys do quality work at fair prices. You have to make a living too. I get it. It's the cheap Greek in me talking, I guess. I grew up doing my own work (and still do), because I refuse to pay someone to do something I can do myself. I have to admit, I wished I had paid someone to replace the power steering pressure hose on my wife's '07 Nissan Murano. That was a HUGE pain in the ass, laced with LOTS of 4 letter words!

BCM Mod 0 grips are my go-to.

WOW!! I order my cabin filters online ($10-12) and replace them in literally 3 mins myself. $145, holy crap!!!

I'm a fan of the BCM Gunfighter charging handles. I consider them a mandatory upgrade to an AR. My preference is for the medium latch. Not expensive, about $50.

If you can build an AR, you can do a disk brake job. I just did a front brake job on my '09 VW GTI. Cost was $158 for a pair or rotors and a set of brake pads, and an 2 hours of my time. That would have been $5-600 at VW, and $4-500 at a shop.

Looks like a bit of a monster size-wise. The gps and compass seems like handy features for hunting. I do a little hog hunting when I go back home to the ranch, and this would expand my envelope to night hunting. Hogs are smart, the will learn to avoid traps, and go nocturnal after being shot at for awhile. Was hoping for something with a longer range night capability, but most of my shots are under 100m anyway.

Agree. Those high mounts hurt my neck. Used to a standard 4x32 ACOG mount on a flat top receiver. Comfortable for me.

No. I moved from west Texas to south Jersey.

Colt LE901. I've owned or shot several semi auto .308 rifles over the years, but I'm most impressed with the Colt 901. The more I shoot it, the more I like it. Mine is the original version with the full quad rail, but there are other versions available that are a bit lighter. The 901 takes standard 7.62 Pmags too. I like the versatility of the 901, using the conversion kit, you can drop on a 5.56mm upper. If you are in the South Jersey area, I'll extend an invitation to shoot mine.

You are correct, 7.62 brakes are what you want.

Correct. Texas considers them varmints, no season, no bag limits, and no license required. I hunted them a few weeks ago on my ranch in west Tx.

What really matters is who did the final machining of the raw forging. The forgings are supplied by several different vendors. Colt, for example, buys from a few sources, such as Brass/aluminum forge, Cerro, and Anchor Harvey to name a couple. These vendors supply the forgings to Colt's specs, and Colt finishes the machine work in house.

I put a LaRue Stealth upper on my Christmas list. My wife told me I haven't been a good enough boy this year. Lol
