  1. For 100 yards and under I would agree with the AimPoint Pro.
  2. The big question is; what is he going to use the rifle for? Long range shooting, HD, range toy, hunting? Hard to make a recomendation without more information.
  3. I've never experienced a delay because of checking my firearm either. Even at baggage claim....they hand deliver it to me and it beats the other bags off the plane.
  4. I fly with a rifle several times a year when I go to my ranch in TX. Rifle is in a Pelican hard case with 2 locks. I delcare it at the airline check-in counter. Do not try to check it in at the outside bag check. The airline employee will ask you to fill out a declaration form, demonstrate that the weapon is unloaded. Ammunition can be transported in the same case as the weapon as long as the ammunition is in the original box. Empty magazines cannot be in the firearm, they have to be stored outside the magazine well. I re-lock the case, keep the keys in my posession, and my firearm is taken to the TSA checkpoint to be x-rayed by the airline employee. In every instance, my firearm was delivered to me at baggage claim by a baggage handler, and I had to show ID to receive it. The first time a traveled with a firearm, I expected a nightmare. I found that it is a fairly no hassle experience and have now done it dozens of times. I DID encounter one airline employee at PHL who asked me to remove my AR-15 from the case and demonstrate it was unloaded. I suggested to him that it might draw a LOT of attention, and he decided that I could show him it was unloaded with the weapon remaining in the case. Lol
  5. Daniel Defense Omega rail. They ff the barrel and install without removing the fsb. A bit pricy but worth it.
  6. Colt's Match Target series of rifles will also fit the bill. They are NJ compliant right out of the box. The MT6400 is a ban compliant version of the 6920, and the MT6400R is a compliant 6940. Both are excellent choices.
  7. I have a Colt Match Competition HBAR (MT6700), that I bought with the idea of getting into high power shooting. Colt made a couple of rifles of this type. The MT6700 has the removable carry handle (A3) upper, and the Match HBAR (MT6601)has the A2 upper with the fixed carry handle. The MT6700 has the 1/9 twist, non-chrome lined barrel. Its a very accurate rifle, shoots much better than I can. The MT6601 has a 1/7 twist, non chrome lined barrel. I would say that $850 is a pretty good price for either one. Let us know what you pick up!
  8. Do tell! Which model did you get? They multiply like bunnies in my safe. I'm up to 4 Colts now.....
  9. I don't know why Rutgers seems to feel that Colt's quality has slipped....I have 4, and all but my most recent acquisition have thousands of rounds downrange without a SINGLE failure. Not one. If he is talking about 'pretty', then yes, Colt doesn't put out beauty queens, they put out hard use tools that are made to function 100%. Mine do. My newest Colt, a MT6400R, was perfect out of the box. I have two of these, and I highly recommend the 6400R. They are the factory monolithic upper receivers, free floating barrel out of the box. They pop up on GunBroker on a regular basis. I picked my last one up a couple of weeks ago for a good price. There are good brands out there, but Colt makes a fine rifle, that is already NJ compliant. Cheers!
  10. Sometimes you have to exploit the loopholes! Jeff
  11. I have a friend back home (Tx) who is VERY into this caliber. I'll try to pick his brain in the next few days and see if he can answer your questions.
  12. Thanks! I've always been a Colt guy for AR's. I told my wife I wouldn't buy any more guns for awhile. Uppers, on the other hand, were excluded from that conversation....
  13. Better pics: MT6400R (new) MT6400R w/ TA01NSN ACOG MT6400 MT6700 Going to ship the new one off to Adco to install a brake.
  14. It's 'new gun day'! I picked up my Colt today. The obligitory pic, even though its a crappy cell phone pic. I'll get more up later.
  15. I'll post a group pic once I pick up the new addition.
  16. I'm up to 4 now....but I think I might need a mid-length or two. I'm Jeff, and I have Black Rifle Disease......
  17. I just told her is was similar to her 'retail therapy', and besides, I got a great deal! I told her she should be proud of me, buying it on sale! Hell, that's the line she tries to use on me!
  18. I didn't NEED another AR-15, nor was I planning on buying one, but I did......I couldn't pass it up! Just bought ANOTHER Colt MT6400R. I pick it up next week. My wife is going to kick my butt! I think I need a support group, or something.
  19. I am very interested in the ALG defense triggers for my Colts. I want a 'duty type', single stage trigger that is smooth. I'll order one, and post a review once installed. Jeff
  20. Here are my Colts: L to R Colt MT6400R with TA01NSN ACOG, EGW comp, and Tactical Link sling mount, and convertible 1/2 point sling. Colt MT6400 with EGW comp, KAC rail, Tactical Link sling mount and single point sling. Colt MT6700, currently for sale.
  21. My general purpose/stockpile ammunition is the Lake City M193. I think it's the best all around ammunition in the AR platform. That being said, I have some LC M855, and am looking to add a case or five of the PMC Xtac M855 to my ammo fort. I have heard it is consistent, and accurate for M855.
  22. Bought my latest one on eBay. I was a little leery that it was a genuine ACOG, at first, but it checks out 100%. Still trying to decide on another AR for it, or to just sell the optic. It was kind of an impulse buy...
  23. Good deals on genuine ACOG's and Aimpoints can be found, but it takes some digging. I just bought a brand new TA01NSN ACOG last week for pretty cheap, as far as ACOG's go. I really didn't have a spare rifle for it to go on, I just bought it because it was a good deal. Guess I'm going to have to buy another AR-15 to put it on.....
