  1. It is my understanding that a muzzle brake needs to be pinned and either silver soldered or welded. Although I WAS wrong once, back in 89'.
  2. This is what I assumed you meant, but in NJ how you phrase things matters a great deal. Guns are made illegal by what letters they have etched into them. Nuff said.
  3. My first FTE

This isn't directly related to your FTE but for the record Sigs run quite happily with a fair bit of grease on the rails. Sig Lubrication Recommendations
  5. I love that line. At an average HD encounter range say 15 feet the spread will be what, 4 inches?
  6. You won't get the response you want asking for ak-47's. No gun store, much less NJ gs is going to tell someone over the phone "Why yes we have the type of firearm specifically prohibited in our state's statutes". Your best bet could be to look online. I'm sure Glenn will be here soon with a wealth of information for you.
  7. In addition, I think we should debate the merits of using the 9mm cartridge as a self-defense round in comparison to the .45 ACP cartridge.
  8. Looks like copper residue from jacketed bullets to me, and I hope it is.
  9. Most unburned powder residue (graphite) that gets trapped in the grease is actually lubricating in nature. Brass particles and other crap is what you should be concerned with.
  10. I use Slide-Glide and it is f'in great. You can buy it in 3 thicknesses for whichever type of gun you're using it on. I use regular in the spring/summer/fall and Lite in the winter. On my Sig, there is noticeably reduced felt recoil when the rails are coated in SG. The stuff is very stringy, and stays where you put it. Highly recommended. You can pick it up at BrianEnos.com or Brownells I think.
  11. I believe (although I hope I'm wrong) the "Pin" he's referring to is the actual bolt that secures the locking block. I think the flat portion of the take-down lever that you put your finger on to rotate it, broke off. Seems like one would need quite a bit of pressure to do this, as well as a metal deformity.
  12. Also, when Glenn states that the DA is about 15lbs, he isn't kidding.
  13. Yep... Milk out of my nose onto the keyboard. Time to find a napkin.
  14. But how much of a hassle was it really to source and order your rig from more than one site?
  15. The shirts look like some bastard child of Ed Hardy tee's and Affliction tee's. Gah. To each their own, those just aren't for me. (I'm also skinny and would look absurd covered in massive tough-guy symbols/slogans)
  16. Practice night is members only, hope to see you on sunday.
  17. Greetings from Basking Ridge. Also, The Store is in BR though I think it may be going through a change of ownership.
  18. I ordered some on Friday and hadn't received any shipping confirmation like everyone else did, so I was about to write an email asking when they'd be shipped... and the Fed Ex guy showed up. Exactly as advertised, Mec-Gar 15 rounders. Very pleased with my order.
  19. Alright I used the wrong word there, it attracts debris which could become more solid as the pistol heats up with each round fired.
  20. The quote in bold is sort of ridiculous. If I make a private transaction even with a family member who in 20 years uses it to defend himself, and in NJ is naturally found guilty of manslaughter, why would I be charged? Even if I sold a firearm to a non family member with valid FPID/P2P's why am I liable if he commits a crime? If he has an FPID and P2P, he's obviously not a felon so how could I possibly predict what he might do down the road?
  21. -Indoor match -Usually 4 stages with the turnout we've had recently -Round count will most likely be under 100 but bring 125 -IDPA courses are either deemed Vickers or Limited Vickers. Vickers courses allow you to fire as many rounds as you'd like, Limited Vickers specifies the number of rounds you can shoot. Either way its rarely more than 20. I'd recommend showing up for the Safety Check. They'll go over the differences in safety procedures between IDPA and USPSA which will be beneficial for you. Hope to see you there!
  22. ^^^ Oil getting cooked and solidifying leads to bad things.
  23. Teflon coated bullets punch through kevlar like butter. "I wouldn't trust my life to an AR" makes me want to punch a kitten also.
  24. I'll be there, no gear to spare though, sorry.
