  1. What do you mean by allowing more than 2 people at a time? I have not been to SS, only BA. I went to BA with a friend and we shared a port (stall, whatever it is called). He was teaching me how to handle and shoot his different weapons. There were a bunch of other people there too. Some were shooting, others were simply standing back and watching. One thing I didn't like about BA is that there isn't enough shelf space along the wall for all your stuff. After shooting rifles and shotguns we wanted to leave them out of their cases so the barrels could cool but there wasn't enough room. Maybe on a less busy day it wouldn't be so bad. Had a good time none the least!
  2. Welcome from Central Jersey.
  3. Welcome from Central Jersey.
  4. I filled-out the STS-033 prior to handing it back in to the local PD BUT she told me NOT to sign the bottom until a police officer was present. I did not fill out the SP-66 form. Maybe this gets done later, maybe my town doesn't require it?
  5. There is Millstone and Millstone Township. By the looks of it you are at the latter. I was suprised when I drove-by (bad term to use on this site?) the old Hightstown State Police Barracks and saw it was gone. Back when I lived there we had two patrol cars out of those barracks for our "little" town. Heck, when I was a kid we had a lot of gravel roads there! My parents are still there, among thousands of other people now. Seems that new roads pop up around there every year, farmland quickly disappearing, that's life in Central Jersey...............
  6. I don't follow what happens in EB much, though I am only one town over. Did anything ever happen with the police range on Harts Lane? That is just a few miles from me. I'd love to see that open to the public through a club/organization (someone has to repsonsible for what happens there).
  7. Hey guys, I am in the process of getting my paper work done and was wondering about that Mental Health Records Check form. I did not have to do one of those at my local PD. All we did was the FPID form which I had to sign in front of a PO on duty and he signed it as a witness. Did the finger printing with Morpho, now I guess the wait begins. Who has to do what? All the references came back already, but I assume the State Police have to do something before my local PD gives me a call?
  8. NJJim, how do you like the CJ R & P Club? That isn't too far from me, especially compared to Brick. My parents live right around the corner so I can also go visit them before/after. I spent some time on their website looking-around. It isn't cheap, but if the place is good I would consider it.
  9. I went as a guest with a friend of mine last week to the Brick Armory. We shared a lane there. I was a first-timer so he would show me each gun he brought with him since I had NO clue about any of them! After he went through a magazine I would take my turn. Great experience. The staff there was very friendly. I did see the signs for Shore Shot on our way to BA. Strange to have two places so close to each other. You people in the Lakewood/Brick area are lucky!
  10. I have heard from several people to do so. I will stop there Monday morning. I am in South River and we have a shooting club here, I was told it was closed to new members. I went to the Brick Armory a week ago. Was told that Fort Dix is cheap, but it is also quite a hike. I think I saw some people said they go to a range in Old Bridge. There used to be one on Rt 22 in Union but it may not be open to the public. Thanks for all the welcomes!
  11. So.............When I go to the shooting range and use firearms that don't belong to me (and I don't own any yet since I have no FID) we could technically be in trouble? But I can rent firearms from the shooting range and use them and I don't have an FID? This state is such a pain in the a** in so many ways! I thank you for the information. I am really curious as to what my buddies in the local PD know about the gun laws in this state. Gotta ask them and see what they have to say. If the local laws in Brick are different than mine here then it really won't matter.
  12. I will get ahold of my friends inside the local PD and get a copy of that form. Very few questions on there. Simply stated that employee X is applying for a gun permit. A few basic questions, maybe four total. When I get it I will send you a copy. I did not see the form that my two friends got, but I bet it was short and sweet like the employer form was.
  13. I thought we were only allowed to buy one handgun per 30 days in NJ so why apply for 3 permits? Do they get spaced 30 days apart? Did I screw-up by only requesting one handgun permit when I applied for my FID? Maybe it's not too late to change it? I have a friend that is a detective in my local police department who is handling my application (I didn't even know he did that kind of work there). Should I call him and ask if it's too late? There are three handguns I wanted to buy and figured I had to do one permit at a time every 30 days.
  14. I know nothing yet about the laws in this state of ours but that sounds crazy! If you AND your wife both have FID's but SHE is the owner of the pistol I see no reason (other than this is NJ) that you can't bring the gun to the range to shoot. If this is true then I'd like to know why. I am waiting for my FID and planned on taking my wife to the range with me to shoot. Since I will be there I guess there will be no problems. Unless she also gets an FID she can't take anything for a ride anyway. I want her to do it so we won't be limited to a single handgun per 30 days with two of us being legal. What is dumb though that according to what I have read in this thread I won't be allowed to take any of her pistols to the range without her being present.
  15. Sorry for the dumb question, but what is a COE? I am in the process of getting my FID. I applied for one handgun permit also. Another question: My father gave me a .22 rifle that he had as a kid and a BB pistol that is very old. Anything I need to do about either of these? Nothing is registered since 50 years ago (rifle) it wasn't required. If I am asking these questions in the wrong section please move them. Sorry, I found the COE thread below. I should read more before I type! Is this a form that a dealer fills-out with you when you go to purchase a long gun? Most of those questions look like the same questions on the form I did with the local police dept.
  16. I just filled-out the South River form, not a lot on there. A letter was sent to my employer who just happens to be me! Only a few questions on there. Same with the letters sent to two of my friends. Fingerprinting is done by Morpho, closest location was South Plainfield. Very easy process so far. Seems that most of the questions are geared-towards mental health, any alky/drug/domestic abuse issues. Nothing about family members on this one.
  17. Doing lots of reading and research on firearms and accessories. Waiting for my permit, fingerprinting completed yesterday. Pretty cool technology, no ink! Applied for a handgun permit too. I'll be doing a lot of reading here and asking questions, here's my first: What shooting ranges are still open in Central Jersey? I went to the Brick Armory last week with a friend but that is a pretty long ride.
